  1. I just managed my first successful re-programming of The Princess using the Mongoose / SDD software. My VACM now controls all the kit it should control, including my retro-fitted CDC. There were one or two brown trouser moments when it threw up communication errors but all came out right in the end. Not a great achievement for those who have been using SDD for yonks I understand but for me? Well... dead chuffed. And a little more confidence to explore further.

  2. Strange I should see this post paul.....I've had the gremlins for the past 3 or 4 days. It first manifested with the restricted performance message...which worried me immensely until I realised there was no performance issue other than the warning. That was for 2 days.....now I've got the abs message! I'm pretty sure it's the battery as you say so I will be sorting that very shortly! Ive got to admit that posts such as this are really informative as, like many, I panicked thinking the worse but having read this article and used a little common sense it suddenly.....well.....made sense. great post paul. Keep up the educational articles

  4. If a good cleanup of the contacts doesn't work Andy, I'd suggest a check that both 12 volt supplies are present at the cluster. Check the second from left and second from right bus bars with a volt-meter with respect to ground. You should have 12 volts at both. One supply down can cause some weird and wonderful effects.

  5. Hi Andy, I am not an electrical expert, but have changed those bulbs a couple of times, and I am guessing the the connection is a bit dirty. There are several electrical experts who will advise also. Regards Peter.

  6. Hi Marvin, and welcome to the club. The DPF does need a full regeneration when the DPF Full warning comes up. You need to take the car for roughly 30 minutes at over 45mph after the car has reached normal operating temperature. I recently saw an additive that says that it is a DPF cleaner. I think it was a Wynns Product. I live at the edge of the Birmingham conurbation and only do about 6500 miles a year, but being retired, I take the opportunity of a nice day to go and visit somewhere -- National Trust Property etc. I have never had the warning light come on. I did see an article in a Daily Newspaper a couple of years ago about an old gentleman who was refused by a Jaguar Main dealer refused to have his XF Diesel picked up and brought to them as he had been in to them so often and had disregarded there advice about how to regenerate his DPF. That basically is the answer, and having the DPF removed is an automatic MOT fail. I would guess that Jaguar would not cover this under warranty as there is a two page reference in the Owners Manual on what to do when the amber warning light comes on. I hope this is of assistance. Regards, Peter.

  7. Hi Dan, and welcome to the Club. It is great to see some younger people getting their hands on S Types. And BRG can look great in the sun when kept nicely washed and polished. I was 79 when I bought my S Type Indigo Blue Pearlescent ---- and I think it keeps me young. If you ever go to the Heritage Motor Museum at Gaydon near Coventry, you will see an S type in BRG which was actually raced by Jaguar. It is not a 3.0 or 4.2 litre but a 2.7 litre diesel! Great cars! I hope you enjoy your Jaguar and also the Club. Regards, Peter.

  8. Hi Frank I try not to raise my car from the sills, I allways lift the car where the subframe mounting points are, I also used a 1" thick rubber pad on my trolley jack you can also keep the area your lifting waxoyled up, so it wont corrode in the future its more solid place of lifting the car and doing less damage, the sills is only usually for emergency use, with the jack in the boot, for wheel change only The pad in the picture, protects the seam of the sill, but if used on the s-type, it will crush the plastic sill cover and also the plastic floor cover aswell, not sure on the xf though cheers Joe

  9. Hi Jaguar recomend oil that meets the grade WSS-M2C913-B and usually its 5w30 castrol magnatec A5 grade meets that it will say jaguar ford WSS-M2C913-B have a look on opie oil, theres for the jaguar all say meet WSS-M2C913-B I dont think the one you have used will do any harm short term, but oil are designed to meet engine designs emisions and correct oils keep the engine internals cleaner and protect better due to meeting the engine design specs, like some engines are designed to burn small amounts of oil, to protect rings and bores, the oil that burns is made so that it wont soot the engine or damage cats or sensors cheers Joe

  10. Robert, With respect ……..as an ex University lecturer I would have thought that you would realise that there are several common sense ways of diminishing the damage to your ‘writings’ and thus reducing your rising heart rate! As a person who has a movement disorder (Generalised Dystonia) which means that among other things i have ‘wandering fingers’ that continually make typing mistakes and often delete whole messages, (which as you say is infuriating)………. I ALWAYS write everything in ‘Word’ first and save it as I go, then ‘copy and paste’ what I have written into the relevant destination. That way if I lose it I always have a copy. Simple common sense really! I think your criticism of the technical make up of this forum is quite unfair and unwarranted, as it is manned and run exclusively by volunteers, in their own unpaid time, for our benefit. (that is for my benefit AND yours), and thus should be applauded for their hard work and endeavours. We are all flawed human beings Robert. None of us are perfect. If there are deep seated problems with access to the forum as you suggest, nobody else has posted a complaint, which does seem odd, given your technical explanation! Always remember that there are other more subtle ways to complain such as a ‘private message’ to a moderator, without resorting to irate comments which do absolutely nothing to enhance the reputation of University lecturers, or even ex lecturers. Always treat others the way you would like to be treated by them! Have a nice day. John Kirk
