Hi Steve, The XJS in its initial launch had a 5 litre engine -- Unfortunately there was a petrol crisis at the time of its launch and Jaguar, which was then part of British Leyland started putting other more frugal engines in over its period of manufacture. Regards, Peter

Well, I did it. I have bought the S type I was interested in. It is a 2001 3.0 in Aspen Green with biscuit Leather interior. Dealer is getting thew MOT and service done and then I can collect it. It drives beautifully (How good must the facelift ones be?) MOT history is very good, it has done 97,000 miles and is in very good condition. It all works as well, windows, air con, seats..... After all these years, finally I own a Jaguar. I have nearly taken the plunge before, many years ago I nearly bought a XJ6 Coupe, but my wifr talked me into a Renault 25...Years later, but still a long time ago I went for an XJ12, but owing to a mix up the dealer sold it...At least I got my deposit back, I ended up with a Granada 2.8i " Huntsman" Estate (Half leather, fitted leather luggage, roof bars...) Pictures will follow as soon as I have collected her. Plans are to have her treated with dinitrol, a gearbox fluid and filter change (5R55N ford box) and a bluetooth double din unit, although I will keep the original if I want to put her back to original. I can't wait to collect her! I feel like a little kid with his first bicycle....

Don't worry she's definitely going to be driven - its the storage for those wet winter months that'll be important for the future so I've bought a Cartoon. I've heard only good things about them so I'm hoping it will keep her in good condition. As Peter quite rightly states she has a 5.3 litre V12. Fuel consumption was never really the strong point hence the introduction of the HE engines with the Fireball heads. Not many pre-HEs about these days probably due to their awful fuel consumption and galloping tin-worm

Got the STR booked in at J Cat in Norwich for a full health check and to sort the starting issue. Just wondered if anyone has used them before and can tell me if they're a trustworthy bunch? dave

Well done, John, and the colour is fitting the car. This was the last car that Malcolm Sayer had started designing before his untimely death. He had been asked by Sir William Lyons to design a Grand Tourer to take the place of the E Type. So nice to see another one back on the road. Peter.
