  1. Aircon display has been flashing on/off and after watching a few videos I figured why. A guy with a Ford truck said the Aircon was switching on and off - he could see the pulley being disengaged and said it was low on refrigerant. Since the Jag pulley is always engaged logic says the next warning would be a flashing display. So I bought the STP Aircon kit from Halfords, this is for R134a. The inlet port is under the vehicle, besides the front left wheel! I connected the gauge and there wasn't any measurable pressure but since it had still been able to cool the cabin, and there were no obvious leaks (UV light) - I started the fill process. It took about 10 minutes, STP recommend to agitate the canister and before long it was completely empty! Now the pressure gauge read full and after a test ride everything appears OK. There are cheaper kits available but STP make pretty good stuff and the gauge applicator is reusable + Halfords give a £10 refund on the canister.

  4. Hi Michael, Not great service from the dealership. Personally I would not accept their offer. To check where you stand legally are you an AA or RAC member? their legal teams are very good. There are a number of parts supplier such as https://www.onlineautomotive.co.uk/car-parts/Jaguar/XJ?gclid=CjwKCAjwjtOTBhAvEiwASG4bCGBn0yaJxq3CbzPTjQCrKpcdrBqZc92VEPIS6BLiVMQQgCa56jSLIxoC0JMQAvD_BwE https://www.autoreservejaguar.com/ I hope you can sort it out. Kind Regards, Julie.

  7. Long, but bear with me. I took my 2016 XF 2.0D in for a service. After I got it back I noticed a rattling noise when idling that disappeared when increasing the revs a touch. The dealership identified a faulty exhaust damper, but had to order the part. I waited a week before calling the dealership. The person dealing with me was unavailable but would be asked to give me a call back. I heard nothing. A week or so later I called again. Again he was not available, but managed to confirm the part was now in stock. I was told I would get a call back but again I heard nothing. Eventually I drove to the dealership and the receptionist recognised me by my name, apologised and found another agent to book the car in. When the work was done I drove home. Later as I was taking the car out my daughter said there was still a noise coming from the exhaust. This noise was different, a higher frequency, and not readily audible from inside the car. I took the car back to the dealership, expecting to hear that some nut had come loose when fitting the damper. Not a bit of it. The noise, I was told, seemed to be coming from inside the back box, maybe something had come loose inside. Solution? New back box, £1100! Cause? Maybe the vibrating exhaust had loosened something. In other words, all the time no one informed me that the replacement damper had come in may have caused some (hypothesised) damage inside the back box. We’ll, no, they were not going to concede that. Does anyone have any advice? Or similar experience? They would not offer any goodwill discount other than the £98 cost of replacing the damper. I tried using an independent garage but they said it was virtually impossible to source Jaguar parts outside the main dealership. Thanks for reading this far.

  8. Just had a gearbox service at my local garage who are Jag specialists and deal with no other cars and are attached to the dealer I got the car from. I ensured they used all the correct parts and most specifically the correct oil. I hoped this would cure an intermittent problem I had been having with acceleration, which is: on depressing the accelerator all that happened was the revs built up slowly, felt it was not changing gear, and slowly the speed built up. This happened even when I floored the accelerator. The next time I got in to drive the car I depressed the accelerator to get going then all of a sudden it shot off like a bat out of hell. This happens whether in Drive or Sport and there is no Kick Down either. Now unfortunately, it is happening all the time. Being a "fly by wire" system I have a feeling the the problem may be the the communication between the potentiometers at the accelerator and the throttle body which need to be reset. Of course when I mentioned this to the technician he basically just smiled and dismissed me. Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.
