On my 2009 XKR , the small screen between the two circular instruments has been 'refusing' to illuminate until anywhere between 20 to 45 minutes of driving.
Fault codes show various failures to read information from many sources. This has been going on for almost a year.
Must forums suggest that the terminals on the connectors at the rear of the instrument cluster were either dirty or perhaps corroded. I had even replaced the small button set on the lower right hand side of the cluster. The one that opens the petrol cap, boot and dims the cluster. To no avail.
Yesterday, while parked with the radio on, the main battery failed. Fortunately the emergency breakdown club carried the battery I required and after separating with a few hundred Australian Dollars, the the battery was replaced.
Guess what. It solved the mystery of the non-illumination too. It appears that the battery has for the past year had sufficient power to start the engine but needed to be 'fully' charged to supply power to the instrument cluster. This it managed to get after 20 - 45 minutes driving!
Although slightly 'poorer', I am delighted!
