Result I have located a semi retired Jaguar Technician who lives about 2 hrs drive from me. He has all Jag diagnostics and back up from the factory. Had a long telephone chat with him this morning and he seemed to know what the problems were and how they can be fixed relatively inexpensively, so the car will be up to him on Saturday. It also means that I can take the XF and run the diagnostics on that. Happy days

Hi Andy Thanks for your response once again. The situation at the moment is right side dashboard vents get cold with AC on. Left side dashboard vents don't get cold with AC on. With AC off and heating on Left side vents get warm, right side vents don't. i cannot hear any sound of flaps or motors working when I play with vent controls. Should I just take it out and shoot it?

I got the car back from the garage with new A/C compressor this PM. I now have mediocre A/C in the front of the car. With the setting on auto there is good air delivery to the dashboard vents. Unfortunately there does not seem to be any air delivery to the vents on the rear of the centre console. I cannot feel anything from any under-seat vents. Any knowledge of what may stop air delivery to the rear would be welcomed. I can't find anything. I will get a better idea of how the A/C works when I get the window regular replaced. To add to my joy the gearbox started playing up on the way back from the garage. I would dearly like to love this car but it is making it hard. It looks great and when it is working it's lovely to drive but I am finding it hard to trust it.

Drivers window lift failure 1999 3.0 SE

Hi Russ Door panel came off with no problems and no broken clips. I got the broken regulator out (I have the scars to prove it, there are some sharp bits inside that door!) and now I am looking for a replacement, which are few and far between in Spain. By coincidence a local garage has an old S type for breaking but I am not sure if it is a good idea to put an old unknown part in there. May be doing it again before long. I located one in UK but they want £35.00 delivery charge. I think they are sending it by Taxi. Anyone know any good mail order suppliers that don't charge stupid prices? My new AC compressor arrived at the garage today so it would be good if I can get everything working at the same time. We are seeing temps in the high 30s at the moment so AC isn't a luxury. Dave -
I am driving around with the windows open as I am waiting for a replacement A?C compressor. This morning I noticed a lot of rattling from the glass and when I tried to raise it the motor runs but the glass doesn't move. Before I take the door panels off does anyone know if it is likely that the unit is broken or can the glass just become detached? Is it a good idea to get a new unit before starting on the door? Any suggestions for a sensible place to get the parts mail order as locating them here in Spain can be difficult? Thanks again Dave

Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware of the under-seat vents, there is no mention of them in the handbook. I will check them out. Joe, I have just bought the car and have no idea when the pollen filter might have been changed. I will look into it

I FOUND IT (insert rockets and fireworks going off emoticon) It is behind the rear right passenger seat, on the side wall. There is a tiny hole in the carpet covering, big enough to get a small screwdriver in, which opens a flap and exposes the number. On mine the fibres of the carpet had spread and just about concealed the hole.

With climate control on auto the airflow through the rear vents could best be described as feeble. Is this normal for this model or is there something that can be done to improve it? 1999 S Type 3.0 Thanks Dave

I have been trying to get a COC from Jaguar for 3 weeks now, something that I feel should be supplied automatically and they charge £100.00 for. We seem to have met all of the requirements with the exception of an image of the VIN number stamped into the chassis, that we just cannot find I have been advised that it may be in several locations and have checked them all. It is a 2011 LHD 3.0D. Anyone have any further suggestions as to location? I am now getting a bit desperate as we have moved from France to Spain and have to re-register the vehicle as Spanish within a strict time frame. If it is late it will cost me around 7,000 Euro

I have a 1999 with an early factory sat nav that takes CDs rather than DVDs. I have the CD for the UK but as I live in Spain I would like one that I can use. I realise that it would be very out of date and that I can buy a Chines Sat Nav that works for less than the cost of the CD but I would just like to see it working. Any suggestions?

Thanks, I had seen that one. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be the case on my car.

I am trying to obtain a Certificate of Conformity for my 2010 french registered XF Jaguar can supply one at a price but require photographs of of 3 different vin number locations. lower windscreen, lhd driver door jamb showing weights and what they describe as stamped into chassis. First two no problem but I cannot find any VIN number stamped into any obvious part of exposed chassis. I would be grateful for any guidance. Thanks Dave

I have been having niggling problems with the gearbox for a couple of weeks, mainly when I put the selector into drive it doesn't go into gear, I have to push it across to 4 and back. Once it is in gear it drives with no problem Yesterday I was out and the car was performing really well, a pleasure to drive, when the "Gearbox Fault" light came on. I had a 15 minute drive home, including a steep extended climb, but the gearbox seemed to be working OK. When I checked this morning the light was off. My problem is there are no Jag/auto box specialists within a 3 hour drive. Is there anything I can look at or any other advice from anyone who may have experienced similar? The car is a 1999 3.0 SE with 56,000 miles and is in great condition otherwise. Thanks Dave

I'm working through the problems with my new old (1999) 3.0 SE and have got as far as a non-working sunroof. It seems completely lifeless so I assume there is no power getting to it. I have checked the fuse which seems OK so what should be next on my list? Thanks

Out today and noticed a couple of anomalies from the gearbox Driving at 45/50 on the flat and for a second or two it felt as if the car came out of gear. Without pressure on the pedal the revs rose without increase in speed, as if I had found neutral. Corrected itself after a couple of seconds when revs dropped again. A short while later driving at steady speed up a fairly steep long incline the box suddenly dropped a gear making revs rise sharply. This lasted 2-3 seconds and then corrected itself. Similar to kickdown effect but I was not accelerating or changing throttle position. The car is 16 years old but has only done 56,000 miles so very possibly short or stop start journeys. I know that the gearbox is supposed to be sealed for life but is there any benefit to changing transmission fluid? Any suggestions welcomed

It seems I also have an Auto Gear selector problem. I parked on a hill this morning and when I tried to drive away it was stuck in park. After much faffing around and more force than I was comfortable with I managed to free it and drove away normally. It also sometimes seems to have a problem engaging drive. You put the selector into drive but there is no gear engaged. If you push it across to 4th you feels a gear engage, bring it back to D and it engages normally and drives normally after that. Has done it 3 times now. Any suggestions or experiences welcome. I read that this is not an uncommon problem with early cars.

Well, took the car to someone who knows what he is doing and we discovered a rather large leak with fluid all over the compressor. Cut a long story short, new compressor required. The "good" news is that I can get a recon unit for 350 Euro exchange from Germany as it is a Ford part rather than Jaguar.

The specialist came to see it (mobile service) and said that there was some gas in it and in his opinion it would just need a top up. Then spent 45 minutes trying to access the low side access point. Finally gave up and said it need to go to a garage with a ramp. Got that booked for Monday. I have a Sat Nav with a Denso GB Cd in it. I think I would be very lucky to get a Europe disc for it now so I guess that will just become an ornament for the future. Have also just discovered that the sunshine roof doesn't work. Will look at that next. Hope it is just a fuse or similar. Onward and upward

About 3 weeks ago I bought my S type off the internet without seeing it and had it shipped to Spain. A 2000 3.0 V6 SE auto with just 56,000 miles. Cost £1600 plus 650 for shipping It arrived last night and at first glance looks everything I hoped for. Super clean inside and out and everything works except the A/C which is pretty important in Spain. I have no idea when, if ever, it last worked but given that the car has only averaged 4000 miles a year over it's life it is unlikely to have done much. I have a specialist looking at it this afternoon and hope it will just be a re-gass and solved but if it is something like a compressor it could end up costing as much as the car pretty nearly. Anyone had any problems with this and has an idea what might go wrong? Other than that, it drives beautifully and I am very pleased with it.

I may have just done something completely daft or possibly got myself a bargain. Time will tell. We currently live in France but we will be moving to Spain the day after tomorrow. I have been looking for a cheap second car to use in Spain to avoid putting too many miles on my XF but I wanted something that I could still enjoy driving. I was looking at an S type amongst others. Prices for used cars in Spain are much higher than UK so I thought I would buy in UK and then spend £650.00 to deliver it direct to Spain once we got there. Then we ran out of time and I couldn't get back to Uk to look at anything. Then I saw this ad http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201606134882442?radius=1500&search-target=usedcars&model=s-type&price-to=3000&sort=locasc&page=5&make=jaguar&onesearchad=new%2Cnearlynew%2Cused&body-type=saloon&searchcontext=default&postcode=da12lp&logcode=p&adPos=7 After hatting to the seller, checking old MOTs on line to verify mileage and keeping my fingers crossed I went ahead and bought it, sight unseen. Have I done the right thing? Time will tell I suppose. Am I barking? There are those who would say so I'm sure. Oh well, something to look forward to. Would anyone else have done such a thing?

I have just been talking to someone who reckons that pre 2002 facelift models are nothing but trouble. Is this the case? I feel happier buying a 2000 model with 56000 miles than a 2003 with twice that, but maybe I'm wrong, so please, tell me now.

Thanks for your responses Really looking forward to being Dave two jags. Spanish MOT, known as ITV can be more of a problem that an MOT. They don't just check roadworthiness but also conformity. A friend of mine had his car fail because his tyres were 10mm wider than standard fitment. With that in mind, could someone confirm that standard fitment is 225 X 55 X 16 Thanks

I am looking to buy a 2000 3.0 V6 petrol. Excellent condition and very low miles (56,000) Is there anything I should be particularly aware of? I already own an XF 3.0 S and the S type is to be a second car to avoid piling the miles on the XF. Both cars are going with us to Spain so will be re registered onto Spanish plates.
