  1. Hi Joe You and your mechanic are correct that if you listen to the engine and ensure that correct maintenance is always carried out, ahead of schedule then there is no reason to believe the car will not go on for years. However, being equipped with a diesel of a large capacity and turbocharged, they do need running at high revs to keep them clean and free moving. If you have no motorways in Malta then this could be an issue unless you can keep the revs high by manually selecting lower gears which would ensure the engine ran clean. Problems which can be associated with insufficient engine revs are turbocharger variable vanes sticking in place due to carbon deposits, DPF blocking up and not able to regenerate, EGR valves sticking, carbon build up in intake system and increased engine wear and tear (sticking piston rings in worst case scenario, leading to lowered compression and fuel washdown, etc). You seem to have plenty of technical knowledge Joe, which allows you to make personal choices and decisions and this in itself will give you an awareness of things not going in the right direction.....maybe the DPF delete is the way forward as the rules are different in Malta. Will certainly get in touch next time I am over your way, haven't been there for quite some time though. Regards, Trevor

  7. Hi Jax....welcome to the Club It is either a case of the reading the handbook/manual from cover to cover or just focusing on the smaller picture of what you need to know at the time and learning as you go along....it can get quite overwhelming trying to suss out all the gadgets 🙂 Good to have you onboard!

  9. Hi Joesph.....welcome to the Club Its one of those things that is quite commonplace on a lot of modern engines and with the constant thought of oil pump or timing chain failure in your mind it can detract from the enjoyment of driving and owning the car. I would personally service it to the hilt and enjoy it and not let the concerns put you off....saying that though I would still listen out for any noises that weren't there before to be on the safe side 🙂 Good to have you onboard!

  14. Absolutely, they are superbly engineered and there is no reason that with the correct routine maintenance it should go on indefinitely
  15. What kit was he using to code the car?
  16. Yes, as far as I remember they are interference engines Has the chain gone?
  17. Hi Paula.....welcome to the Club She certainly is photogenic 🙂 Good to have you onboard
  18. The only thing I can think of is the valve clearances if the valve seats were to recede slightly due to running on poor quality fuel and pre-ignition which can cause this (best to run on 97 octane and additives) If clearances change then re-shimming may become necessary
  19. Hi Wayne......welcome to the Club Good to have you onboard!
