Hi Ann....welcome to the Club
I would definitely say that a defective battery will cause these electrical faults and as for the smoking, I would add some fuel treatment and give the car an 'Italian Tune-Up' to clear it out.

Was just chatting to someone the other day about Jaguar returning to Le Mans....I think it's only a matter time before they do, considering LMP1 class is due a big shake up after this year's outcome. Watch this space as they say!
I had the radiator tank split on my Mazda in France a couple of days ago due to thrashing it along the French roads in high temperatures.
It would be worth looking at the hose clips if they are the spring type and replace with Jubilee clamps if they have lost their tension...in some cases they can let high pressure coolant blow past the hose when pressurised and in extreme cases, even pop the hoses off.
Hi Choo Choo.....welcome to the Club
I have read it here several times before that owners are dissatisfied with the SatNav and that its old school compared to a lot of other manufacturers' systems....maybe it is best to just run with a TomTom as easier to update as well.
There is a Road Trip section in the forum if you want to write a few words about your trip?
