  1. Sorry to here that your trip to a breakers was unsuccessful. I note you comment about this engine cover for the V6 engines. I assume this is the one that sits over the front cylinder bank? Was this only fitted to certain years or models? My 3.0 sport premium doesn't have one but I've seen them on eBay for sale. But looking at other cars on eBay it looks like this cover is very rarely fitted?
  2. Definitely worth checking the connections to the control module behind the glove box. Had problems with mine, checked the connections & gave them a good soak in WD40 & now the gearbox now works perfectly. Reading various forums it seems this is a common problem.
  3. So today I checked the wiring to the gearbox control module behind the glovebox & found a lot of dirty corroded connections, so a good soaking with WD40 & the car now works perfectly! Whilst the plugs were out of the module I did a resistance check on the two wires that feed the output speed sensor & got a reading close to the figure in the JTIS details above so am happy that the sensor was good. Thankyou again for the posts above. I'm now very relieved that the car is now fixed without an expensive gearbox rebuild.
  4. Thanks for your replies Joe I've now got plenty to check at the weekend, as with all things on newer cars, these connectors look really awkward to get to!
  5. No, it is a 5 speed. Was the 6 speed only fitted in the later diesel autos?
  6. Thanks for your reply. Yes the symptoms you explain are what I am experiencing. I spoke to the place I bought it from today, they are a small Indy Garage who had maintained the car for its previous owner for many years. less than 10k miles ago & about 2 years ago the gearbox was removed, stripped, speed sensors & solenoids replaced then re fitted, I also have the original invoice for this work, the Garage said that as this work had been done, it is extremely unlikely that these components would fail again as improved ones are fitted as replacements. That would hopefully eliminate 4 of the problems you list. I can check the Engine Coolant Temperature sensor & see if its connected. The garage did say a common fault is the wiring that goes from the gearbox to the control unit thats behind the glove box can let water in & makes the connection to the control unit wet often leading to problems, so my first check is to see if any water has come in!
  7. So I appear to have the first problem with h my 2006 X Type 3.0 sport premium Auto since I've had it. I went to use it tonight, pulled away & just didn't feel right, the gear changing was really rough & within a few yards the dash light came on & the display said gearbox malfunction. I plugged in my OBD sensor with the Dash command app on my phone & received code P0720, output speed sensor circuit. I cleared the code, tried the car again & the fault & code came straight back! Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?
  8. Replacement 3 wire mirror fitted & working perfectly, when I removed the shells to swap them over I could clearly see the lack of the powerfold motor in the old mirror. The 3 wires go into an electronic module in the mirror body, separate wires come from this & feed the various motors etc. I believe the module under the drivers seat converts the door switch signals to an electronic signal that the mirror module recognises. I would guess the 14 wire mirror are for older cars, mines a 2006.
  9. 14 wires? This gets even more confusing, mines a 2006 sport premium with memory & power fold, there's only 3 wires in the plug behind the door card. I'm guessing the later cars used a CANBUS system?
  10. Check you have the correct mirror fitted. I have the exact same problem with my recently purchased 3.0 sport premium. It turns out a non power fold mirror has been fitted. There's about 4 different types of mirror depending on spec. The power fold memory mirrors are very rare. I've managed to find one but not had chance to fit it yet.
  11. Yep, I had this problem earlier. Typed out the post, clicked 'submit reply' & didn't seem to get any action. I waited a few seconds & clicked 'submit reply' again thinking I could have possibly Miss clicked the first time. The topic then loaded & I could see the repeat post. i did look to delete the repeat post but couldn't find a way to do it.
  12. Thanks, I hope to give this a try at the weekend.
  13. Thanks, I hope to give this a try at the weekend.
  14. Hi Peter Thanks for the reply, I have checked the mirror & its all attached correctly, its like there is no power getting to the mirror, its all plugged in correctly, I can't hear the motors running when I try adjusting or power folding it.
  15. So I picked up my new to me X Type 3.0 sport premium over the weekend. Really liking it, smooth, comfortable, plenty quick enough. However everything seems to work fine apart from the passenger door mirror. It doesn't adjust with the controls & the power fold doesn't work, the drivers side works fine. Having checked on here & elsewhere I understand there are 3 different types of mirror depending on the spec of the car. My car has memory seats & power fold mirrors. Tonight I took a look at the mirror, everything looks ok, no broken wires etc. There's only 3 wires, I also checked the drivers side which also has only 3 wires. Can anyone give me any guidance on what too look for? There appears to be some sort of control module in the mirror so thinking this may be at fault? Thanks in advance
  16. Hi. I'm new to Jags but just bought an 06 plate X Type sport premium estate 3.0 auto. Test drove it yesterday & put a deposit down. Hope to collect it next weekend. This will be replacing my current Audi S4 as I need something a little less extreme & better on longer journeys. The Audi S4 is awesome but too much for everyday. The X Type is my first Auto so that will take a little getting used to. Along with the lack of power :(
