I had Vredstein Ultrac Sessantas on my XF 3.0D S, and loved both their performance (wet and dry) and how they looked! Not very hard wearing though, which I guess is the price you pay for excellent grip.

My XK key fob has a button for opening the tailgate. When I press the button it unlocks the boot, and I can open it without the alarm going off. When I close it again the indicators flash once to tell me that it is closed and the alarm is set again. I think that my XF was the same, if my memory serves me correctly. As you say, I would suspect that the wiring may be the problem, probably at a point where it flexes when the boot is opened and closed.

I think that is pretty good PG, and the main thing is that you have enjoyed a large, reliable, powerful car which is an excellent motorway cruiser, whilst achieving those very creditable figures.

Good morning Simon, and welcome to the Club. I had a obsidian black XF 3.0D S and absolutely loved it. I can well understand the smug feeling! Keep it well polished: The black absolutely gleams. I used ProShine on mine, and did it every other week or so, since it is so easy to use. I did wash the car first though, even though it says you don't have to.

Hi Ian, and welcome to the Club. I had a 2009 XF 3.0D S Portfolio a couple of years ago. It was simply brilliant, and I had no problems with it except for spurious TPMS warnings, which were annoying. What is your budget, and what are your main requirements? I suggest that you post the query in the XF section of the forum, including that information. That way you will get more replies.

Gareth, don't let the DPF and EGR worry you. It is always good to read about possible issues, so that you have some knowledge about them, but I suggest that you then just park the knowledge in the back of your mind. I am just like many others who have read about them, and discussed them on the forum, but who have never suffered any actual problem themselves. The vast majority just bear them in mind, some using additives, some using Shell V Power, and keep everything running perfectly well. The problems are frequently discussed, but much more rarely encountered.

Congratulations: I think that it is exactly the same colour combination as mine, and the blue is Indigo Blue. You must be missing the parcel shelf. Jaguar could doubtless supply one (at a price), but I wonder if you could pick one up from a scrapyard. This may not be easy though, because I believe that the stays are easily broken. The handbook should deal with the pairing of phones. I can't really help there because I rarely have my phone switched on, so have never tried to pair it. I don't really know what mpg I get. I keep the display set to tell me the range I have left in the tank, which I regard as far more useful information. I don't doubt that I may get as low as 14mpg from a cold start, followed by highly spirited driving, but I think that I probably average something in the low 20s. I did once work out my consumption over a summertime 300 mile round trip on motorways, which worked out at 26mpg. I don't do a high mileage in the XK, so the mpg is pretty irrelevant to me. Even for those who do a higher mileage, I would suggest that when it comes to calculating the cost of running a car the rate of depreciation can be a more significant factor than the mpg. The rate of depreciation of XKs has tailed off, and I hope that they may even go up in value in years to come.

I agree. WD40 is a water repellant, so if you apply it now it should stop frost causing locks to stick for a while. It's not oil though, and no substitute for oil long term, because it evaporates. The locks will need a drop of lock oil after a few weeks, when hopefully frost is no longer a problem.

I changed my XF 3.0D S when I retired for precisely this reason. You could try using Shell Optimax diesel, which makes a lot less soot. Opinions differ, but some find that it gives more mpg as well as keeping their DPF cleaner. We use it on my wife's Citroen C4 Grand Picasso 2.0D and have had no problems in the 3 months since we bought it, despite an awful lot of short runs. I don't think that you would find any appreciable difference in power, but if you get better mpg and it helps look after the DPF, that is enough justification as far as I am concerned.

Thanks Richard. I keep my XK battery topped up on a CTEK battery conditioner. The XK is not used every day, so if it has not been used for three or four days I put it on the CTEK and leave it charging until it is next used. I have done this for two years now. I am sure that it isn't necessary to do it so much, but it does no harm, and I love the peace of mind which comes from knowing that the battery is always fully charged.
