  1. Yes I got mine from Amazon, not cheap but then not a standard item. I wonder how much the Jaguar part is?
  2. In round terms I would look to adhere to a cam belt change at 10 years or 100,000 miles. Look at a cost between £350 to £500. The cost is variable depending on what else is needed or indeed being done at the same time. If there is little or no service history that must have an impact on price?
  3. I’ve just had a quick browse and the disc is still available. It shows as a 2020 update but probably made in late 2019.
  4. My wife does drive, but it’s a Toyota and a few times she has leaned over to look at my speedometer, turns out she was going to complain I was going slow, till she realised the real speed and just how deceptively quick these Jaguars can be. Actually I suppose that applies to all luxury cars? mid you want to talk wages, my first one was for £1 and10 shillings. Compared to the current hourly rate…. Wow.
  5. I do love my Jag, I have to, as I promised my wife it was to be my last car!!! I’m in my 70’s so it’s not a wild promise.
  6. Many thanks for this interesting link. My local MOT garage actually fitted my HID bulbs on my X-type, but had to remove a lot of the front end to do it , so can’t see any garage going to those lengths just to check the E marking?? As long as the pattern and height is ok, in reality the car should pass ok. On a side note I wonder if this legislation is why there is a mix and match of led/ filament bulbs for the tail lamp assembly??
  7. No but go for good quality LED’s. It makes a difference. I think I ended up using a company called “we sell HID’s” on eBay. If that helps?
  8. Mine is the same but a 2010 model. It just had 55w standard halogen lamps.
  9. Yes I have a shop on eBay so I’m aware of being courteous as well. But I had converted my previous Jag, a X type, to HID, so when I got the XF I was genuinely shocked at how bad the standard lights were!! It was like driving something out of the 60’s with Prince of darkness electrics.
  10. If I have an issue with items I buy, I generally inform the seller. Not to get a refund as much as letting them know a potential problem, so they can either solve it or amend future sales information. In the case of the LED bulbs, the seller did know there was a problem with fitting and gave me the details of a competitor who sold the clips. The gave me a partial refund as a sorry, without my asking/demanding. Bulbs still work okay, especially on a dark road, but not ideal in when raining. It’s the white light somehow not lighting up the road the same as halogen. But great on main beam. Rob
  11. Yes I’ve been out and about today and I was very disappointed that a good portion of my trip appeared to be across fields? When I did join a main road the sat nav directed me the opposite way and took me through a major town, on a Saturday. So I may well decide to do something similar rather than risk £30 on an update that may not be acceptable.
  12. I have a 2010 XF and this uses the cd unit in the boot (on the left hand side) the mapping was ok but not current so I got a new 2019 disc on Amazon for just under £20. It worked fine with no lag or delay.
  13. I changed the bulbs to H7 LED. Ones with the inbuilt fan. My main issue was obtaining the different retaining clips, dip and main beam use different clips and different again to the standard ones. The bulbs were sold as a direct “plug and play” replacement, so I was not amused when I found I had to start again. I did get a 50% discount on the bulbs as it was an obvious trade description infringement. Now main beam is very good and dip is cleaner if a bit to white for me.
  14. Hmm my sat nav fell off the window and triggered the alarm and that caused a beep or two when I unlocked the car? Could it be an alarm issue I wonder? I think you need to access a reader and see what ( if any ) codes are showing.
  15. Mine bleeps when I set the deadlocks ie a double press on the key fob? Maybe this is something to look at? Rob
  16. I’ve just replaced by x-type with an XF and I swear the headlamps are even worse. I hope an upgrade is available?? Rob
  17. I’ve wanted to do this mod for some months now but I’m unable to find a supplier who will guarantee fitment, they have them for the petrol models of the X type but not the diesel. The supplier you mention says that version is only for 3 variant models of a Ford transit? Obviously I don’t want to be out of picket and with my car I mobile. Any advice is helpful. Rob
  18. I live in the high peak area of Derbyshire so also do a lot of unlit B road driving. It was my number one priority after I got the car to sort the lights. The down side is they are a real pain in the posterior to access. So I had my garage do the job while replacing a turbo link pipe. They had to remove all the front bumper and headlamp assembly’s. So 3 hours labour, but I supplied the parts to ensure there was going to be no error codes popping up. Rob
  19. Osram night breaker and other similar bulbs are a direct replacement fit. They will give an improvement but not a lot. Only a full HID conversion will give a significant improvement. Having said that I would not recommend an HID conversion for main beam as they need to warm up to give the best light and I found that you often need main beam on those dark country roads, where you need to see where your going right away and not after a delay. Rob.
