My 2011 XF-S 3.0D has just clicked over 70K miles. Am I on borrowed time or can I relax for a bit? Cheers, Jon

JAG 2010 radio settings...
Jon Hyde replied to Joseph Lee's topic in Jaguar Audio / Video / Electronics / Security Systems
Hi Joseph, There should be some touch-screen buttons down the lefthand side of the screen, one should be labelled 'Audio'. Touch that and you should see the screen refresh to show whatever media you are playing. Cheers, Jon -
Hi Q, I'm on my second car with paddles. They seem unintuitive at first, incredibly so, but when you practice a bit, it's fine. One word of caution though - don't start off using them in S mode! Practice first in D, overriding the normal automatic selection, probably by choosing a higher gear when cruising or a lower one to slow down without braking. If you go for full override (in S mode) it can get a little hairy until you practice (my brother-in law pulled a downshift when he though he was turning off main beam in mine!!!). At the end of the day, I think they're there just for an occasional bit of fun; most of the time the gearbox gets it right; although it does hang on to lower gears a little more than necessary. Have fun and enjoy either way! Cheers, Jon

Hi Vincent, I totally concur with Peter, whilst also doing lots of short runs, I do make sure I have a long 'blast' every week or so, along with an occasional (3 monthly) trip to in-laws in Ireland. So far, so good! I do make sure to always use premium diesel and a regular shot of Miller's Oil additive (discount with membership available at Halfords!). Try not to be disheartened - the XF has many joys on offer, but do 'take it for a spin' regularly! Best of luck, Jon

Thanks Ian & Richard, Guess what I'm doing at the weekend! Cheers, Jon

Hi All, I've had a warning message - Water in fuel - see handbook - briefly on two occasions recently. Handbook says the diesel filter has too much water in it and needs draining. Can anyone tell me if this is possible myself, or do I need a trip to a dealer? Thanks in advance, Jon

Hi Mark, I've had many years of company cars and had to buy one of my own a year ago. Always wanted an XF, not a new one (no point @ 62! :-(! So found my dream car - a 2011 XF-S Portfolio! Couple of issues quickly fixed, now 10K miles on and still in awe If only it didn't chew up rear tyres, or is that my fault!? Friend has an XE, always wants to go places in my XF. QED!

Hi all, I seem to have an issue with the parking brake on my 2011 XF-S... I don't like to upset drivers behind by resting my foot on the brake pedal in a queue, so pull the mini-lever to apply the parking brake. Mostly everything is fine when driving off - it automatically disengages, but occasionally, it keeps the right rear brake on. This give peculiar handling and rumbling sounds, with a distinct "pull" to the right. Does anyone have a similar experience, and hopefully a cure? Cheers. Jon

XF. Definitely!

Taking my cat to Tipperary tomorrow for my MiL's 96th birthday party on Sunday. Love the Irish roads, unsure about the M4 tho! Cat is full of Fancy Texaco diesel and a shot of Miller's Oil, aiming for 50mpg (some hopes!). Just hope Stena Line are on time 😕

Hi Arthur, I buy from www.latestsatnav.co.uk; discs are about £30 and (at least in my experience) work perfectly! Cheers, Jon

Hi Pete, As I keep reminding myself (in terror!), when I bought my 2011 XF-S (15 months ago), it had Chinese 'Triangle' tyres fitted. Horrendous! Quickly swapped for Pirelli P-Zero Assymetrico, immediate improvement! They were about £200 a corner at KwikFit (235/35x20), which I thought was reasonable. Rears will need replacing soon (too much S mode for the gearbox!!!). Apparently, the Pirellis are what Jaguar recommended at the time the car was made. Hope this helps and good luck with your search. Cheers, Jon

Happy New Year, Joe!

BTW, I do have a heavy right foot too!!! 🙂 J

Hi Dennis, 21 isn't good 😞 I get about 28mpg locally and up to high 40s on a long run. There must be something that can be adjusted or fixed to cure this. I'm no expert, but maybe someone else here can suggest a cure! Cheers, Jon

Hi Vincent, Are you certain it's suspension related, or could it be something loose in the compartment under the boot/trunk floor? I had a similar experience, which turned out to be the battery retaining bracket bolt sheering, allowing the battery to bounce around! Good luck! Jon

Hi Dennis, Mine (2011 XF-S 3.0D) always idles at 750rpm. Cheers, Jon

Jon Hyde replied to Poke It With A Stick's topic in Jaguar XF Club
Just checked my handbook. It does say that Bluetooth music is supported (haven't tried it yet though!) Cheers, Jon -

True mpg question
Jon Hyde replied to Neil Hollington's topic in Fuels, Oils, Additives and MPG Discussions
Hi Neil, I have a 2011 XF-S (3.0L Diesel). Locally I get high 20s and on long motorway trips with cruise control set to 70 (ish!!!), I get high 40s, even 54 once, on the M6 in the 50-limited roadworks. What clobbers mine is stop-start queuing as it doesn't have auto stop/start and turning the engine off clobbers the stereo and climate control. However, I'm sure that whichever you go for, you'll enjoy it. One tip though: don't sweat too much over fuel consumption - they're meant to be driven!!! All the best, Jon -
DAB and Bluetooth Audio functions on 2011 XF Portfolio
Jon Hyde replied to Poke It With A Stick's topic in Jaguar XF Club
Hi Matthew, I can only relate my experiences with my 2011 XF-S Portfolio... Definitely has DAB Searching can be slow, but once complete, reception seems to be rock-solid However, there are many 'bands' (or whatever they're called!) and they seem to be related to your location when searching Bluetooth audio does work in mine (with an iPhone 10), although mainly I play my ancient iPod via USB or CDs and, of course the DAB Not sure if any of that will help with your dilemma if it simply refuses to work as you would like, but good luck anyway - there are many other things to enjoy about an XF! Cheers Jon -
Hi Roy, I bought my 2011 XF-S just over a year ago; had two problems... Awful grip due to cheap Chinese tyres Vibration from the front wheels when braking First was a no-brainer - 4x Pirelli P-Zeros, sorted! Second was a bit more challenging to my pocket, namely new discs and pads for the front, but now completely fixed. Sounds like you have a different problem though, as mine only vibrated when braking. Could you, maybe, have a damaged wheel? Or just a duff tyre? I wish you the best of luck, and hope to hear of a resolution. Cheers, Jon

Hi Ray! I beat you by just 4 years! Always wanted one, had to be a red one and a fast(ish) one! Hope you enjoy yours as much as I'm enjoying mine. Cheers, Jon

Hi Paul, I just took my XF out for a spin... Initially no air from any vents. Heated windscreen and back window came on automagically though. After a couple of miles, screen heaters went off and warm air came from the outer & middle front vents on the right; nothing on the left at all! However, when my speed-limiter is sitting in the front passenger seat, she's always complaining about warm air from her vents, so goes a little wild with temperature settings (20 on my side, 16 on hers) that obviously confuses things when she gets too cold and cranks it up again! Maybe the car is sensing the presence of someone on the front passenger seat??? These cars are just too clever, never know what tricks they have! But we love 'em!!! I appreciate this may not deal with your problem - sorry - but mine does just the same when there's no front seat passenger Cheers, Jon

Hi Garry, I used AutoDNA when I bought my XF just over a year ago; you can get the car's history and original specs in one place. Only problem is, you need the VIN, not just the reg and it costs a couple of £s. Cheers, Jon
