  1. Hi all My restoration is almost ready for MOT and resuming daily use. The only thing is that , after two years of repairs, rust treatment and re spraying, I appear to have hit a major problem. I can't reset the alarm and, as expected, the alarm having been activated, keeps the system alarmed. Does any body know how to re-programme the key fob with an activated alarm? The alarm maintains a 12v feed which bypasses the ignition switch which means that 12v is present even when the key is not in. Theoretically this is needed to maintain part of the system so that the alarm sounds and the lights flash without providing power to start. I thought of replacing the alarm module but at over £200.00 I want to be sure that the problem is in the original unit. Any ideas please. The alternative might be too much to bear after all the hard work I've put in.
  2. I'm advised that I need a new key. Simple if you can find a key cutter that can do it. Does anyone know where I can get a key cut, chipped and programmed?
  3. Hi all. I can't start my xj8 exec. The problem appears to be in the alarm immobiliser system. I'm desperate to get the car on the road as, during the lock down, I decided to restore the car. All's well until I tried to start it up to take it for MOT. As Soon as the battery is connected, key not in the ignition yet, the alarm activates and is not responsive to the remote. I had a similar problem some time ago but it cleared itself after a couple of road runs. This time, however, no such luck. In addition all of the warning lights are scrolling constantly. I changed the key control module, no luck, I did find a small amount of corrosion in the security module, Verdigris, cleaned it out, No luck. I'm a member of green flag but they won't come out to a vehicle that has no MOT. You can see the catch 22 situation I've no doubt. Auto electricians are also not interested. Can any body offer help or advice Please!!!!!!? Meanwhile the car is on stands and looks so forlorn with it's new paint job just waiting for a bit of attention.
  4. does anyone know how to programme auto seat settings on 2002 exec xj8
  5. Hi Everybody I'm Back again. I have a very puzzling fault on my XJ8. When I reconnected my battery after doing a bit of electrical work the alarm went off and I haven't been able to reset it. Also the fault warning panel on the instrument cluster began flashing multiple warnings i.e. abs fault, electrical fault, stability control fault etc etc. Has anyone ever had anything like that. I'm about to test my security module and clean up the contacts that have acquired a nasty coating of Verdigris.
  6. A little over two years ago I began a restauration project on my latest used Jag. I bought it for £2000.00 and after a short run I soo found a few problems, in fact I don't know how it passed it's M.O.T. All four ball joints were on the verge of total collapse, so was I when Neil from Mugglestone conversions, told me about rust underneath seized brakes and hand break even the boot lock was jammed. So I thought I'd better do something that I've always wanted to tackle. Partial restoration and respray. Fortunately Neil is a very competent and honest person. he made the necessary repairs and even Wax oiled the whole underside. Guess what, it sailed through the M.O.T. first time. When I got it home it was a real treat to drive, just like a Jag should be. I have now got to put the electronics right and I'd appreciate any information I can get on, how to programme the driver seat controller, or any other advise on restauration. I've found a cure for sagging roof liners too. ❄️⛄⛄
  7. thanks I found some in my garage.😉
  8. Does anyone know where I can get replacement dash cluster bulbs? I would like to replace blown bulbs with LED's but I haven't been able to get an exact match. I have 4 blown bulbs all of them are the large instrument illumination.
  9. Thanks Again Aubrey.

The hand book will probably be very useful.

  10. Thanks Aubrey Unfortunately my car is a different one to the video. It's a 2002 xj8 executive. The American system is very impressive though. My car is fitted with a memory module under the driver seat but I can't find a memory set button. One of the difficulties of restoring is trying to locate things. I can't find the rain sensor module either.
  11. Does anyone know how to programme the computerised seat adjuster. My XJ8 is well on it's way to a restoration and, to get the automatic seat adjuster working would be a real treat. Also I am looking for a left hand(N/s) rubbing strake. That's the short bar on the lower side of the wings. They are glued on but can be removed easily with plastic leaver.
  12. Hi Andrew. The modern systems are 100% better than before. My Jag is running perfectly well with half cost of fuel, over 6.000 filling points in uk, and you can't tell when the fuel changes over after start up. I had my filler poit installed along side my petrol filler cap so you can't even see it. It's the best thing I've done with my cars. Max
  13. Can anyone help with a rust problem? I have recently bought a replacement O/S/F wing which is in a very good condition generally but there are some rust spots that need to be attended to. I have stripped the small areas(around the wheel arches), down to the metal there is no sign of any brown rust but there are some dark, almost black indentations still present. My question is, "should I rub down until these spot are completely gone"? Out of interest I did manage to get a GRP wing for the N/S. But the company that manufactured this has gone since covid and I've not been able to find another.
  14. Hi. I found a garage that I would Highly recommend several years ago I had my Jag converted to LPG. I search for a long time but found that the nearest reliable garage was in Antons Gout near Boston. One and a half hours drive away for me. I was amazed to find that Mr. Muggleston, the owner, was the very best you could wish for. I had various jobs done by him and his son and found the work to be excellent and additionally the service in general Unbeatable and reasonably priced. It's rare to find people with such skill levels as Neil. If you live within 60 miles or so you won't find a better service. I have changed my Jag for a later model and had the gas system changed over to the new one. I still very happy to go the extra mile to get good, honest and reliable service.

  16. Does anyone know if the fuel injection on v8 engines needs to be bled after draining fuel tank? I've just changed my pump and, after two torturous weeks of struggle, bad language and bruised arms I finally got the new pump fitted now the engine turns but doesn't fire. I have filled up and I hear the pump start but no joy. I was thinking that air may have got into the system like it does on diesels.
  17. Thank goodness petrol is not electrically conductive. Here's the old pump. it needs a lot of heat over a long time to do that to Bakelite.
  18. I've just had a very hard time replacing my fuel pump. It apparently stopped working and the AA's diagnosis shewed that there was power to the pump but the pump itself was not running. When I eventually got the unit out I found that the plug connecting the unit to the control system was severely damaged. There were obvious signs of over heating at the pin connections. The plastic had become brittle and the pins themselves were blackened. The actual pump was still working fine when fed directly. As the whole thing is immersed in petrol I thought I'd better warn owners of the potential danger in this model and, maybe others. My car is a 2002 XJ8 Exec. After asking a few questions at various garages I got the impression that several pumps have gone down and the general feeling is that they are getting past there sell by date.
  19. High all The on going saga of the 2002 fuel pump is getting weird. I contact Jaguar and they deny all knowledge of a variation in fuel tanks for that period of XJ. I'm attaching pictures in case anyone can identify, either, which vehicle has a tank of the same type or, where can I get a pump from that will fit my car with an integrated fuel sender.
  20. I had a similar problem when I bought my first Jag. I overcame it by installing LPG. The road tax didn't go down, so, it looks like anything you do isn't going to be recognized as a reason for road tax reduction. My emissions went down to o.o2ppm which is pretty fantastic. However my cost of fuel has halved. So some of the extra road cost is offset.
  21. Thanks Joe. I've proved the pump is faulty using a separate 12v supply.

The worst of it is that nobody seems to know which pump it is. It's not the same as all the other xj8's. this one has an integrated fuel sender. All the others have separate senders which fit in the center of the tank. My tank is completely different, both sender and pump are inside the same assembly. A very experienced mechanic told me he had never seen this on any other xj8.

  22. Thanks Frank I'll check it out.
  23. Has any one got a wiring diagram for a 2002 XJ8? I am trying to restore a very good looking car and need to check out several faults. Any help to find a supplier would be great.
  24. Thanks for the reply. The key fob suddenly decided to work perfectly next day. The engine still doesn't start but the fuel pump isn't running. A very reliable mechanic advises me that he has had to change several of this era pumps and suggests a new one be fitted. Not a job I'm looking forward to. Any tips?
