Hi Mark, you have probably made up your mind by now but for what it's worth you would probably find the 180 diesel with its 50 plus mpg to be perfectly adequate power wise, dynamic and sports mode will get rid of most turbo lag. To chip the engine would almost certainly give you a higher performance but the cost would be to invalidate any warranty, your insurance premium would rocket ( if you could find an insurer) also I have chipped several cars in the past, ALL of them would on occasion simply cut out without any warning whatsoever when accelerating hard. A rare occurence but they all did it once or twice, it aint funny when overtaking traffic.

I have to agree with Tom, I had an MG once and ruined the paintwork within about a week after covering it with a car cover when I went sailing, a windy week but the car came out looking as if it had been sandblasted. I have an XE and do an intermediate oil change every 10,000 miles.

Bought a 2016 XE AWD in 2019 and had no bother with it at all, the performance from the 2.0l 180 diesel is good without being outstanding, the economy is outstanding 50+ mpg. Not really a car for the home mechanic, unless you are a bit of an electronics wizard but as Nigel correctly says driving this car always puts a smile on your face.

Nice looking car and the 163 should be very economical, I have the 180AWD and often wonder how they managed to get that amount of power from so little fuel.

No the figures are about what I would have expected, the new buyer always takes the biggest hit. I could not afford to buy a new Jag and change it every two years like some people do but even if I could I really can't see the logic in it.
-
I wouldn't worry too much about your Jag, I have had a 2016 XE for two years now with no issues whatsoever, a friend who bought a Merc about the same time has been plagued with electronic problems, describes her car as a dreadful car. I have a big, old, fast motorbike and a Jag, one thing they have in common is the ability to put a grin on my face.

I have a 2016 XE AWD there is a manual opening button in a rubber shroud between the rear camera and the number plate light, I take it you either do not have this button or it does not work, button is quite well hidden. Sorry if I am just stating the obvious.

Owners of older British motorbikes often fit a tap to stop the oil draining from the oil tank down to the sump when the bike is not being used,(wet sumping), you would be surprised how many riders drive off forgetting to turn the tap on again. The consequences are very expensive.

I suspect the urea content of Adblue would tend to crystallise out if it was not stirred up for a while, personally I have never had a problem with it, I wait till the low warning appears then add 5l which lasts quite a while. £6.00 for 5l from Asda.
-
The vehicle information menu in the message centre will tell you how far you have to go before needing DEF fluid, I wait until A low fluid warning appears on the dashboard then just add 5 litres since I have no idea how big the tank is in the XE. This will last several thousand miles.

Hi John, Most of my life I have had Land Rovers and other rather agricultural vehicles, for the most part I have always done my own maintenance and repairs without any major hiccups so am reasonably mechanically competent. I now have a Jaguar XE and would not dare to do any more than routine maintenance to it, being completely baffled by the electronic wizardry. I doubt if many modern cars will be diy projects any more. I still love the Jag.

I have never remapped a jag, I once made the mistake of having a previous car remapped before I checked with my insurance company, when I did tell them they told me they would cancel my insurance if I did not undo the remapping. I got insurance elsewhere but at a much higher premium. There is no doubt it boosted performance significantly.

Welcome Tony, You must have an Inspector Morse type of Jaguar, a real classic, it doesn't have all the fancy electronics that can cause so much trouble with a modern Jag. A nice car.
-
Oh man, and I nearly went goggle eyed looking for the difference.

A DPF full message is not good news, I don't think a completely full DPF can be cleaned, a red-ex or similar treatment would definitely be worth a try and I would do it before the warning apears again.

Printed user manual for 2020 XE instead of digital only
Mollbhan replied to brucehend1's topic in Jaguar XE Club
Yes that's definitely a bit over the top but some things never change, I remember my father buying a new Land Rover back in the 1950s, optional extras were a passenger seat, a passenger side window wiper and a spare wheel. A handbook is an essential item however and it's going to take a lot of printing. -
New Member White Jaguar XE 2016 2.0 RSport - 90k Miles
Mollbhan replied to Brendielad92's topic in New Members Introductions
No Brendan, high mileage on its own should not be a problem, I once had a Rover 216, sold it with 178000 miles on the clock, apart from routine items like oil changes, brake pads etc the only expense was a bush replacement cost under £15.00. 90,000 is peanuts compared to what some taxi drivers put on their clocks. -
Can a donor battery not be attached to the terminals when the change is being made, I have done this succesfully with other. albeit older non Jag cars?

"Essential Journeys" conundrum
Mollbhan replied to Allandon's topic in Chit Chat - Non Jaguar Related
I have much the same problem with my diesel XE, a modern charger that can be left on all the time takes care of the battery, I would never disconnect the battery, this could lead to all sorts of electrical problems. -
Hope it all works out for you this time, we've all been there, screaming never seems to help, sometimes banging your head off the garage wall does though.
-
My one was doing this too but a change of battery and cleaning the terminals in the controller solved the problem.

Hi Chris, Well worth asking around for prices, I went to Tay Land Rover some years back, before they became Stratstones for new brake discs on my Discovery, quoted £575.00. An independent Land Rover dealer at Killin did the job for £185,00, nuff said.

I would agree with Cosmicma, my local garage says this usually works for an emissions failure.
