Hi Geoff, It's good to know there are chaps like you independent around - I guess it's all a matter of finding a good one. Shame Herefordshire isn't closer to Staffordshire as your write up suggests we all should use him. Best regards, Dave

Hi Colin, Thanks for the post and link, just been on ebay and bought the manual, should be here in a couple of days. Best regards, Dave

Hi Colin, Unlucky with the lottery. But on the flip-side, you're in a cracking pub, real ale is their speciality, they've got Adnams, Old Hooking, Boondoggle, Spitfire, Ruddles County with many more in the bottle. What'll it be? My S-Type: Registered 15th March 2004 V8 Sport (4.2l engine = 300bhp :D ) Other than the malfunction light, I don't appear to have any of the electrical niggles you list, think that would annoy me a little, especially how low your miles are. That said it's good you've got a independent who seems to look after you. Speak soon, Dave

Hi Gerry, You have your answer, I must admit I use neutral for when I'm at a junction, foot on brake, if it looks like I'm going to be there for a minute or two I put her into neutral. Even with my foot on the brake, in drive, it seems like the car is pulling ever so slightly. Obviously as the lights begin to change or it's my turn to move forward, she's in to D and foot off brake on to accelerate. Best regards, Dave

Hi Alastair, Your quote seems high especially with that excess. How many years have you been driving and what no claims? Reason I ask, I have a V8 and I'm paying in the low £300 with a £250 excess, policy was taken out with Admiral online - the downside I still have more than twenty years to work before I can retire :) May I suggest, shop around for a better deal. Regards, Dave

Hi Russ, welcome to the club. I'm not a mechanic, but you pose your question online, try http://www.justanswer.com/uk-car.html they normally have a couple of mechanics which may ask a couple of questions first but then suggest a possible fault. Good luck, Dave -
Motorway Speed Limit Set To Rise To 80mph
Mr D replied to Steve's topic in Chit Chat - Non Jaguar Related
A little off topic - I see in today's paper the Government (bless) is set to give local authority more ocntrol on speed limits where more 20 mph restrictions in towns and cities and potential reduction of national speed limits to 50 or even 40 mph are likely :o :o :o :o :o I wonder when they're going to fix the pot holes ;) -
Hi Steve / Gerry, According to the manual, the vehicle can be towed but it is recommended if recovered over a moderate (>0.5 miles) to high distance the best method is to use a flat bed transporter or towed with the rear of the car suspended. From a driver’s perspective, it is not recommended to coast in neutral to a stop, in some circles this is perceived as not being in control of the car. As to whether any damage is caused as per your question Gerry, I would have thought not, but then I'm not a mechanic. Hopefully someone on the forum with a mechanical understanding of the automatic gearbox could provide an answer. Regards, Dave

HI Geoff, Hope you bought a lottery ticket today...... ....... ease the pain a bit. Do you have an independent or do you use a Jag dealer? Best regards, Dave

HI Paul, Welcome to the Club. Looks like you've got a stunner of a car there. I hope you're going post a few pictures of it? I'd be interested on your comments regarding mpg. I've always been keen on the STR but when a V8 Sport came on my radar I couldn't resist. :D All the best, Dave

Hi Steve, You lucky so n so! :) :) :) , what job do you do which allows you this privilege? Best regards, Dave

Hi Colin, Lottery mmmm sounds good, as they say, "you need to be in it to win it!". Question, you'd trust the wife with an XKR??? :P I guess with this many posts - if we were in a pub we'd probably be friends. As for the S-Type I love it. I've only had this one for about five weeks. I wrote off a 2l 406 coupe back in 2002 and was looking around for a replacement. S-Type was joint top of the list. I loved the retro styling - true Jaguar!!! But thought it was an old mans car ( ;)) so I opted for a 3l V6 406 coupe. Well, almost ten years later I have the S-Type :D :D :D - does that make me an old man? So the car - I'm the second owner, it has 79k on the clock, the car has a couple of issues but stuff I'll resolve over the coming months. I had a small glitch at the start of the week with the engine malfunciton light coming on but cleared after 36 hours - problem was I was on the motorway at the time. Didn't have chance to hook it up to a dyagnostic machine to fully understand the fault - garage said they couldn't do anything so not to worry......... We'll see. What model do you have? Best regards, Dave

Hi Garry, Welcome to the club and Jag ownership, are you going to post some pictures of the Cat? I'm not sure of any meets in the immediate future, you've missed a couple of trips to the Jag factory and classic event. When Steve ( Administrator) comes online he'll probably be able give you the heads up. Regards, Dave

Hi Colin, Name changed by deed-poll? :D I would expect that there might be some specific clubs especially for the E-Type but thought it a little extravagant to have three (maybe more) Jag clubs. I was a little surprised when I logged on here to find there were no membership fees. A previous forum (different brand) would permit free of charge membership with full access but then encourage subscription to help facilitate full club functions. Strange but true. Best regards, Dave

Hi Geoff, I took the car in to the dealers, no malfunction light on, they said there was no point in hooking it up to the dyagnostic machine as there was no fault to be read. They went on to suggest the failure could have been down to some bad fuel or over burnt fuel which could have lead to a short-term fault. I'll just have to see how it goes......................... Good luck with yours, Dave
-
HI S-Jaglover, You're only right, I guess I read straight over that in your original post, thanks for the clarification. One would ask why are there different clubs? Regards, Dave

Summer, that was a couple weeks in May, we're now into Autumn and as we all know it'll snow soon as we move to Winter :)

Hi Neil, You say it sorted itself out, over what sort of time frame?
-
Hi Brett, I've got no idea as to the brand/manufacturer, I was hoping someone on the forum might have placed them. I like them, not sure how they'd go on my green S-Type??? I saw them first on a different post, I attached the question to the forum members post but no reply for five/six weeks, the original pictures below, the member S444HOT They look like they're 18 inch, they look awesome. I'm not sure if I could hack the off-black look though, I do like to have shiney things :D I thought I came close with similar alloys (silver ones) fitted to an XJR but when I compared phots there were a few differences. Regards, Dave

I think with all the rain whether hot chocolate or a whippy you'll need an umbrella, one of those small ones you get on a cocktail :D

Fuel Economy… Whats Your MPG figures?
Mr D replied to Steve's topic in Chit Chat - Non Jaguar Related
I've had my S-Type V8 Sport coming on five weeks and have had a few good runs (Herefordshire to Dorset, Gloucestershire to Hampshire). The commute to work is a 32 mile round trip, initially A-roads but then on to the M50 M5. The computer has given me the following mpg 29, 28.3 and 31 which I've been quite impressed with especially as the car which it replaced, a 3.0 V6, had a combined MPG of 25.9 (manufacturers figures). :D -
Shame on you Alan, surely that's not the case, surely the elected Government has got all of our interests at heart? :) You're right though, while they're raking it in why change and spend significant cash to develop and introduce a viable alternative. One interesting point, while we're looking at alternatives for locomotion, what about all the other industries and products that need petro-chemicals for manufacturing? So many products whether in the home or workplace rely heavily on petro-chemicals to be made.
-
Hi Alan, Totally agree with this approach, with my last car I stayed with one company for a number of years and each year the premium creeped up to almost double the first quotation. I think I was lazy to actually get it changed, that was until last year, I used a comparison website and managed to get a quote with a reputable company for the same sort of figure as for the first company. When I informed the first company I wanted to cancel I initially got the third degree and they were adament their cover was better but when we went through their cover line by line and found them to be the same albeit for half the price, they abruptly rung off. No loss and a couple of hundred quid better off. :D

HI S-Jaglover, Post looks good and Davenport Cars even better. Some impressive cars there. Reason for my post, where did the Area number come from? It's the first I've seen of it on the forum. If Bedfordshire is Area 17, what is Herefordshire? Best regards, Dave

Hi Gerry, You're spot on with the buttons, the top button comes in two versions: a four button or two button version. Mine (in the phot) is the two button version which has the adjustment in and out. The four-way button has the same and also the ability to move the support up and down. But all this doesn't help you, I read that on some earlier models the lumbar support was an optional extra :o. I've read in a different forum (admittedly the car was an X-Type) forward / rearward movement of the bottom of the back rest control adjusted their lumbar control. Clutching at straws. Best regards, Dave
