  1. Wow! £143.00 (+vat) is very expensive. Have you tried ebay or a breakers? I put the feelers out a couple of weeks ago, if there were any members who dealt in spare parts and while the post has had lots of views there have been no replies whatsoever. The last online club I was in (406 Coupe Club) was a lot more active and had one member who routinely sourced parts for coupes, often breaking older, non-roadworthy coupes. Most of his clientele were from the club so it was a win win situation all round. Happy hunting, Dave
  2. Hi Gregory, I can't say with certainty regarding the S-Type, but on my previous car (a Pug - don't say it....) it was a screw type. My point in replying, if your manual S-Type is a screw type, more than likely, like my old Pug, during assembly they will use a load of lock-tight to ensure the knob doesn't come lose/off by accident. I was amazed at the amount of force needed to remove it. Good luck, Dave
  3. I hear what you're saying, last weekend was the first opportunity I had to give my S-Type a proper clean (I've had the car about a month). Obviously when you get up close and personal you spot all the little faults which were missed with the first and second viewing. I've always wanted to go to the seller and ask to wash the car before making the decision - he'll think I'm mad but he gets his car washed for free and it'll be a better job than the people/person they use! But don't you see the slight imperfections and lets be honest that's what you mention above, these imperfections can be corrected whether you have the skills to do it yourself or you pay someone to do it for you. When I went for a first look at my car, I didn't notice two great stone chips (more like boulders :D ) on the bonnet. They had been treated/painted/lacquered hence why I missed it but whoever did the job did not fill the chips with paint and build it up to the same level as the original - a bit of a disappointment for this type of car but as said above I'll correct this over the coming months. All the best
  4. Hi Barrie, I see you posted this a while back, you've had more than 200 views but no comment. About a month ago I bought a 8 year old S-Type V8 Sport, the car has covered 79K miles and with only one owner, it's in mint condition. I had the car inspected by the AA which made comments about some areas of light rust underneath (fuel / brake lines and so-on). So in answer to your question yes, I think a waxoyl treatment would be money well spent. I found company online which specialises in Land Rover/Jaguar, they're based around London and Leamington Spa, I just need to book the car in. I'll let you know how I get on. All the best, Dave
  5. Hey guys, Followed your advice and some online guidance, applied the sealant and it seems to have done the job :) :) :) . I'll post some pictures. Many thanks, :D Dave
  6. Hi Chris, welcome to the club. Love the car, looks like you've got a real beauty. Happy motoring, Dave
  7. Took a day off work today, the intention to get to grips with the S-Type, have a close look at the underside; remove the wheels; close look at the brakes - see how much life the discs and pads have got with them; close look at the suspension etc. I was concerned that each of the wheels seemed to be rusted on the hub and had to be knocked off. I was a bit cautious at first as I was using the supplied jack and as a gentle thumb wasn't getting anywhere, in the end I had to give the wheels a couple of kicks to get them off. Obviously I changed from the supplied jack and brought out the trolley jack and axle stands. Anyway with wheels removed in turn, I was able to give each corner a thorough clean, you may ask why, my approach here you can have a thorough inspection addressing issues before they become a fault and the wheels look amazing when complete. Wheel removed - light dirt, brake dust, tar, rust and adhesive residue on the inside. On the other side, the hub is rusted with rust patches on the caliper First wash with AG Shampoo, agitated with a car brush, the more stubborn stains/tar/rust/adhesive needs a bit more..... With the use of AG Clean Tyre and some more agitation; AG Tar Remover; A small (brass) wire brush (for the rust); the results are pretty good. The whole wheel rinsed off and a layer of AG Super Resin Polish applied (inside and out). To address the rust and sticking to the hub, a thin application of copper slip is applied where the two metals will meet. Didn't want to put too much on, as I don't want to spend the next couple of days cleaning it off. Clean wheel mmmm AG Instant Tyre Dressing applied and left to dry, time to turn my attention hub and brake. Hub and caliper cleaned as with the whole wheel arch; Rust prevention applied to hub, allowed to dry; Not enough time to paint calipers - perhaps next time? Wheel back in place :D A job well done (Good job the tyre had "outside" written on it - I could have made a mistake.........)
  8. I love the S-Type, I have since Jaguar launched the car, but it's taken me quite a few years to take the leap and buy one. I've always been surprised that with the S-Types retro looks, that the car is generally supplied with a growler, I appreciate at the time of introduction a pedestrian safe Leaper was not available, so to my question/poll: What should it be Leaper or Growler? Mr D - Leaper
  9. It's quite interesting to sit at 70 mph (I don't do it often) and watch the whole world (bar the trucks) pass you by, the down side is when you get some righteous sod doing the same in either lane 2 or 3! Have they never heard of keeping left. I think the 70 mph speed limit set decades ago suited the country at the time, not least the type of vehicle and driving ability, however times have changed with significant improvement in cars, and I'd like to say "an improvement in driving ability" - but I think we can all say there are loads of muppets out there. According to the media, the one potential impact of an increase in speed limit to 80 mph, would be a more zero tolerance to exceeding the limit. Is this achieveable? How oftern do you actually spot a police patrol car - in my experience seldomly, so unless there is significant investment in police officers and patrol cars or dare I say it "average speed cameras", zero tolerance will be difficult to enforce.

  11. Hi, Can anybody put a name to these alloys?
  12. So not too dissimilar to the XJ then? :D
  13. Thanks Steve, the downside, I'm right handed not sure how I'm going to even up the popeye arm :D
  14. Hi Can anyone identify the attached alloys? Thanks, Dave
  15. Spent a few hours yesterday cleaning and polishing the jag. Rinsed and then washed (two bucket method) using AutoGlym shampoo; After drying sprayed tyres with AutoGlym tyre dressing (left to dry for a gloss finish); Polished car and alloys with AutoGlym Super Resin Polish; Windows polished with AutoGlym Window Polish; Polish buffed off; Followed up with a coat of AutoGlym High Gloss Protection; Polish buffed off. Photo time complete with a gratuitous beading shot B) B) B) .
  16. Hi Helen, What do you mean about "chuckability - Scirocco"?
  17. So which was your favourite?
  18. Thanks Steve, any specific sealant?
  19. Thanks Glen, let me know how you get on (especially if there are any top tips). I'm off travelling on work tomorrow so won't be able to try anthing until next weekend. Best regards, Dave
  20. Hi Geoff, Welcome to the club, your words sound just like mine. Been driving Pugs all my live and have recently bought an S-Type and I'm loving it. It's my first automatic (owned) so my left hand doesn't know what to do with all the spare time when driving. Happy driving, Dave
  21. With the recent heavy rain I've notices a small amount of water in the wheel well. Small - around a cup full, I haven't been able to trace where it's coming in from, my concern is obviously the battery and other electronics are in there and even I know electrics and water don't mix. Help....... Dave

  23. HI Dean, What alloys are fitted to your -Type?
  24. Hi Matt, I live in Ledbury, Herefordshire and occasionally think of myself as Midlands (ish). Where abouts in Warwickshire are you? A get together of like minded individuals could be interesting. :)
