  1. Picked a replacement up on ebay with warranty and history that had only covered 40k for £180 and got it fitted by my local indy who I always use for £ 150. You can fit the earlier ones with the viscous coupling to later models, which is what I did as they tend to give better AWD experience Mine is 2005 3.0 sovereign manual saloon and the box was from a little used 2001.
  2. Glad to help. That being said a new original disc is only going to have very few updates as the latest is 2012. Aftermarket ones can sometimes be a bit risky. As it is now working I would be tempted to leave well alone for now.😊
  3. Sometimes the Disc just needs a good clean.Failing that you can get aftermarket ones from ebay etc,but be warned some people say that a poor one can corrupt the whole info system. If neither of them work chances are your reader in the boot has a fault.😢
  4. Probably best to put this on the XJ site😉
  5. Locking wheel nut key
  6. Hi Macca, The flap on mine still leaves a slight gap even after lubricating so I'm wondering if your problem may be something different.Do you have a local indy locksmith who can check if the fault is the fob. If it is you can usually pick them up cheap on ebay and get them cut and programmed by a decent locksmith for a lot better price than a Jag dealer. I got a spare supplied ,cut and programmed for £ 98 last year locally which I thought was decent. Good luck😊
  7. With such a low annual mileage for a Diesel I would be inclined to use an injector cleaner additive and then take it for a good long run at fairly high (but legal) speed.May be a build up of contamination caused by long standing period.
  8. How did you resolve it in the end ?
  9. Just one thing to check if you have programmed and refurbished the fob correctly before you spend any more money. There is a small metal flap that closes as you take the key out of the ignition barrel that sometimes doesn't close fully when the key is removed as it wears. This can stop the fob signal working so lubricate it and make sure it shuts fully when you remove the key as it is part of the security system. Had this problem last year and this solved it for me. Good luck😄
  10. I genuinely don't know what bolts you mean or do you mean the retaining screw that keeps the spare secure in the boot? I wasn't aware that the standard wheel nuts weren't compatible with the space saver. If they aren't where in the car should I find the spare wheel ones.?😉
  11. Sorry to hear your health problems. Glad to hear your Jag has gone to a good home locally.Must be upsetting though as I would hate to part with mine. Look after yourself✌️
  12. The last couple of days neither of my keys will operate the central locking on or off unless I am stood in one position close to the car. They both have good keys so am wondering of it's an issue with the receiver. Any ideas ?
  13. Cheers John.😃
  14. Could be or it might be that the battery needed a boost as a low battery seems to cause a few of these sort of things according to threads on here.Or of course as it only does it occasionally it may come back. Will keep an eye on it Cheers.
  15. Well I silicone sprayed all the locks and took her for o good run as I have only done very short trips this last few weeks and thought the battery might need a boost. When I went to her this morning I locked and unlocked a couple of times and no mystery beep ! Here's hoping. 😃
  16. Strange one this. A couple of times recently when I unlock the car the horn will beep twice. Now I know it will do this if you lock the car and a door or the boot is open but I have never heard of it before when you unlock the car. Any ideas ?
  17. When I first picked up my car from the dealer it flashed up "Cruise control not available " for the first couple of miles, The car had hardly been used in the previous 2 years and I think it needed a good run to get the battery level up. Been fine since. (Touch Wood)
  18. Blimey, thanks for that John. So it looks like the three inputs on the Transfer box are for power, rear axle and one of the front drive shafts with the other driven through the gearbox casing. Now you see why there is no way I will be tackling this job myself, would probably end up with the car (and me) in 😃pieces.
  19. Now I know I'm probably missing something obvious but I recently ordered a replacement transfer box which arrived today and is being fitted by my local indie this week. What I don't understand is how this thing gets power to both front wheels from only one output without a front diff. I can only see 3 shaft inputs, one for the transmission, one for the rear prop and one transverse for the front drive. It's doing my head in trying to work it out
  20. Cheers Jim Somebody had gone down the "It's a Mondeo in a posh frock" thing and tried to use a cable from a Mondeo which connected to the rear sensors but is a completely different at the module end so they had just tucked it out of sight !
  21. Bit late updating on this I know but finally fixed it. Somebody had connected the wrong cable to the rear sensors and tucked the cable away.Bought the right one off ebay, connected it and now both rear and front sensors are working 😄
  22. Help! This will be my first winter with my X type 3.0 AWD. I was thinking it would be fine if we get any snowy weather but I seem to keep reading that the post 2004 electronoc AWD system without the DSC option (mine) is useless in the snow !. Please tell me it ain't so. The 4 wheel drive system on my car is one of the things that I know niggles my BMW owning neighbour so I wouldn't like him to think it wasn't any good.😄
  23. Now then, any help with this would be greatly appreciated.Occasionally if I turn my ignition through stages 1,2 and start in a hurry my audio (Alpine Premium system) wont work in any source. However if I leave a little 2 second gap between stages everything comes on fine. It's as if the system needs a second to recognise the ignition code. Any ideas ?
  24. Yeah probably that, Have had a hunt round the boot but can't find it.Might nip to our local indie car electrics guy and see if he can help. Certainly don't fancy removing bumpers etc. Failing that will probably leave things and park carefully .😄
  25. The parking aid sensors (front and rear) haven't worked on my car since I got it in February so I had a go at them today.Although the module has inlets for 3 separate harness's mine only has 2 connected. All images I have looked at on line show 2 brown plugs and 1 black connected but mine just has the 2 brown connected and 1 empty inlet.Could this be the problem ?
