Not an issue I've heard or read about, but make sure they guarantee the repair. I doubt you'll have any more problems if that's what they say it is.

75 F is a mild day? A couple of weeks of that is a whole summer over here!

Android Auto Smart phone modification.
Coolcity replied to Stephen Mcguire's topic in Jaguar XE Club
I must admit I'm quite happy with my FM transmitter gadget which, for £20, lets me play my Spotify stuff on my phone through my car's speakers, and also gives me a couple of USB sockets which are handy. I hate Google so I don't use Assistant, but must admit I wouldn't mind a reverse camera. What was the fitting cost? -
There are a few sites that list every speed camera in the UK and states which ones are active. They might help to confirm whether a camera is active or inactive. I doubt that the system would be that sophisticated though, I'm not sure it's even legal.

Sorry it's a bit late, but worth checking National tyres who often have deals on and it's also usually pretty easy to find discount codes of at least 5%. Sometimes you can get another 4% back from Quidco, a cashback site (not sure I'm allowed to post referral links but PM me if anyone wants one). I recently got a set of 19" Pirelli P Zero - the specific ones stated for the Jag - for under £520 with a 5% discount code and may get another 4% cashback from Quidco (they don't give the cashback if you've already used a discount code but a lot of the time the cashback is still given). They're also doing a 4 month interest free payment plan so you can even spread the cost and pay for one tyre each month if things are a bit tight - no credit check, no interest or other fees. Black Circles price was £668 for the same tyres. Huge difference.

Does anybody know how the auto lights and wipers function works on the 2010 Prem Lux model? My understanding of the lights from the handbook is that if I set the switch to Auto, the lights will come on when it's dark enough - but if I do that they come on straight away, even in bright sunshine. Assuming the sensor is behind the front windscreen, there's nothing covering it. Similar thing with the wipers using the variable speed control - regardless of whether I set it to MIN to MAX, it doesn't seem to vary the speed of the wipers, or certainly not by much. In light rain I set it to MIN and there's a 9 second gap between strokes, at MAX an 11 second gap. Am I missing something. One other thing, are the "puddle" lights (underneath the wing mirrors) supposed to work on this model? Not bothered either way, but it would be nice to have them working if everything's there. Thanks.

I wouldn't accept that. Do a search for an indy that specialises in DPF, there are a few around and I'm sure you'll find somebody in or around Manchester. I may be wrong but I'm fairly sure that Jag can't stop anybody else selling the parts, restriction of trade laws or something. I would take that with a pinch of salt and I suspect it's the site manager just trying to get his target figures up for the month to stop you going elsewhere. No harm in asking.

I'll take one later, but it's the space where the compartment lid drops into when you open it, to the right of the twin cup holders. There isn't actually anywhere else it can go.
-
One or two have said that the design of the hinge is such that it should open all the way. After the "adjustment" I made I noticed there's a lot more resistance when trying to close it and I'm a little concerned that I might sprain something, so I may put it back to how it was. Note that I didn't change the struts, and in one of the YT videos the lid didn't open fully until they replaced the struts with new ones.

Hope the insurance covers it, but if be surprised so it depends what the car is worth to you. Pity you didn't find a pothole you could blame. What mileage has the car done?

Just curious as to why people would think that because half a dozen people have reported a fault in a forum, that it would be a common problem? Turbos and intercooler issues are relatively common faults on many cars, I've had issues on the last three I've had, but after reading this thread I asked at the garage where I had the wheels refurbed recently if this was a common fault and they said they've never had a Jag in with this problem. They're Jag approved and get lot of high end cars in so it's not like they don't see lot of cars with turbos, so if you haven't had this issue I wouldn't worry too much. Anyway, main reason I posted is that the ebay link somebody posted earlier in the thread now shows an intercooler for sale for under £75, not sure if it's the same model or not.

I think you've misunderstood the point of the photo. That was only posted to confirm that the tyres on the car when advertised were Dunlops, not the Joyride branded tyres I got when I picked the car up - ultimately my fault for not checking, but if you knew there were decent tyres on the car when you viewed it, it's not something you would expect to have been changed. I'm not unhappy with the car at all, quite the opposite in fact, but I think the dealer leaves a lot to be desired. The car wasn't particularly well valeted, given that they'd had a week to do it, the tyres were changed (and possibly the wheels as I said), the DPF filter was full when I picked it up which isn't something I'd expect, though I've never had a diesel car before so couldn't make a judgement on that, and there was a vibration at around 70 mph which I can understand the dealer missing as they've probably never driven it at that speed. Since I got the car the DPF warning cleared (eventually, took 120 motorway miles or so to do it), I've changed the tyres, which resolved the vibration problem, and I've just got the car back today having had the wheels refurbed and powder coated and the calipers painted. It now looks as it should, and it goes back to the dealer on Monday to have the broken fuel filler door hinge replaced, which I've had to keep pushing them for and eventually threaten to have it done at the main dealer and send them the bill to get a response. I've spent just over £1000 to have the tyres changed and wheels refurbed, both my choice although the Chinese tyres were truly awful, I always assume there will be some things that need doing on a used car to bring it up to standard so I'm fine with that, it's just that I've never had such a poor experience with a dealer before. I know the car is good mechanically and now it looks as good as it drives, and I'm perfectly happy with it. But I'm convinced that the dealer has swapped the tyres and wheels for their benefit rather than because it needed it. the tyres I saw were in good condition, in fact almost new and I seriously doubt that there was enough wrong with all 4 to warrant changing them for a cheap Chinese brand. It's highly suspicious at best. And they do have a few dodgy reviews - but then so do most main dealers, so it can be tricky knowing who to trust.

I'm not even convinced about global warning. First we had the ozone layer problem, then that magically fixed itself apparently. Then we had the issue of cutting down too much of the rainforests, citing that the Amazon (forest not website) may provide up to a third of the world's oxygen, then science proved it hardly proves any because the forest is so dense that little oxygen can escape. Then another report claimed 6 out of the top 10 world climate scientists said that it was a natural progression - every few thousand years or so the temperature goes up and down. That's a known fact, and previous fluctuations can't be blamed on the industrial revolution! As for lithium, it's extremely dangerous, extremely toxic and very difficult and expensive to recycle. Currently the powers that be are talking about burying much of the waste. I believe there's a huge man made lithium pool somewhere in South America where most of the world's lithium is produced, mined or whatever and it's said to be the most toxic place on earth. And we've only just started! The cars, well I don't think they've thought it through. Who's going to want to buy a 10 year old hatchback for a couple of grand when they're going to have to spend another 4-5 grand replacing the knackered batteries? What do people do for overnight charging who live in flats and apartments and don't have a dedicated parking space? Half the houses on our street don't have a driveway, What do they do? I could go on of course, but I'm far from convinced that scrapping millions of cars with ICE engines to usher in electric vehicles is the way to go. Surely the place to start is with trucks and buses, and even replacing diesel trains. For me the whole thing is a sales gimmick to help the ailing car industry who are struggling to come up with anything new.

That guy on Youtube is from South Africa. He's a one-man repair manual for minor fixes and upgrades, well worth a watch. I did what he said but used too large a drill bit, but I did get mine to open about half way so that if I'm carrying something I can still open it the rest of the way with just a nudge.

It may be worth contacting them. If they custom build for each car they may be able to make them. I have to say I'm rather taken by those, I might just order a set myself to keep it cooler for the dog on longer journeys. Also gives the look of privacy glass if you want it, and I like the fact that you can have the windows open too. Would look great on my black XF. 😀

Now you can laugh if you like, because this will probably only happen to me, but somehow I got my key stuck in the void at the side of the twin cup holder, the space where the door goes into when it's open. How the hell it found it's way to there from within the cup holder I'll never know, but it did. If you have a key and have a habit of dropping it in there, put a key ring on it or something. I had just a ring on the end of it, no key ring "charm" as such, and luckily as a result of that I was able to get a pair of thin pliers on it and jiggle it out. To do that I had to prise off the front hinge of the cupholder cover door with a knife, and lift it up slightly to create a gap so that I could reach the key. You can't remove the cup holder unless the door is open fully, and you can't open the door fully because the key is sitting in the space it drops into. 🙄

Wow, where the hell did you find one with that mileage? I thought I was lucky to get a 2009 with 52k on the clock. A mate of mine had a Saab 9-3 for 7 years, and has driven my Jag a couple of times. His answer - buy the Jag.

I have photos that show the number plate for both front, and another very clear photo from the same batch of sales photos (so you can clearly tell the photo was taken in the same place), but not showing the plate for the rear offside. I did see the car before buying, albeit in a very tightly packed warehouse based showroom. That's how I knew it had Dunlops on to begin with, and although it's not something I picked up on when I collected the car, I later thought that I must have been mistaken as I'd looked at 7 or 8 cars that week, including 3 in the same showroom. It wasn't until last night we noticed that it did in fact have Dunlops on in the showroom. My mate came over to look at the car, but I've just taken it in to have the wheels refurbed so we ended up looking at the dealer photos. That's when we spotted it. This is one of the dealer photos, you can clearly see it's a Dunlop tyre. Of course it could be that they were knackered, but they look OK to me, but that's probably all the dealer would have to say to cover himself and I have no way of proving otherwise. I always check tyres because it's something that needs to be negotiated in the price if they need replacing. I know the Dunlops I saw were fine, at least visually. I haven't asked yet because it's booked in on Monday to replace a broken fuel filler flap hinge and I don't want to "upset the apple cart" until that's done - it's taken me 3 weeks to get a date booked with them - but I will be asking the question. I did mention that I'd changed the tyres on the car and the receptionist I spoke to (who probably wouldn't have known they'd been switched anyway) said that they sell the cars with the original tyres they come in with. Actually looking at the wheels again it's possible they changed the whole wheels and tyres because the front offside was quite badly scuffed and the coating had split all the way across. There's no sign on that on the photos. Hard to know their intention for sure, so I've added a question mark to the thread title.

Thanks John. I've actually just had a call from the dealer a few minutes ago, they have the party and it's booked in for next Monday. The threat of getting Jaguar to fix it and sending them the bill seemed to do the trick. I've saved that link though, could be useful to someone else at some point.

I picked up my XF around the end of June from a used car dealer, and had a couple of issues, namely vibration at speed and jammed fuel filler door. The fuel filler door is now booked in for next week, having had to tell the dealer if they don't sort it I will, and send them the bill. The vibration went away when I changed the new but crap Joyride branded tyres that were on it for Pirellis last week. Prior to this I'd discussed with a mate that I thought the car originally had Dunlop tyres on it which looked nearly new when I went to view it, but couldn't be sure as I'd looked at a few cars that week. I had previously mentioned this when I rang the dealer about the fuel filler flap issue (which is just a broken plastic hinge), and they said that's what it had on (Joyride) when it came into them. Anyway, I've just found out that it DID have Dunlop tyres on it. I downloaded and saved the (dealer's original) photos from the sales site and we've just been looking through them. They clearly shows Dunlop tyres were on the car when it was advertised, not the Joyride ones it had when I picked it up. Needless to say I'm not happy as I've forked out over £500 to replace the Joyride tyres but do I have any options? I would assume that all the dealer has to say was that the original tyres were knackered, or that it had Dunlops on when I picked it up and I must have changed them. I'm also assuming that the Joyride tyres are officially legal so if he's changed what was on it for a new set of tyres, albeit a crap make, I probably don't have much of an argument unless I can prove there's a significant difference.
-
Yes, very true if it needs that. I've had my battery disconnected for a day on a 2009 XF though and had no problems at all.
-
Yes, fine if you want to pay double the price for a new battery.
-
I'm not sure, I thought if it was a locking cap it had to lock? Knowing dealers, they're probably trying to source one from a scrapyard or something. I might see how much they are and do it myself, how hard can it be? Besides, it can't cost that much for a piece of plastic, although with car parts you never know.

I don't know why Jag don't include more of this sort of thing as standard, I'm sure it would help sales. Even now the latest XE/Xf doesn't have folding mirrors as standard on at least some specs. As for my own 2009 Prem Lux XF I don't know if it has puddle lights or not. I've never noticed the lights come on when I've opened the doors at night, though I've only had it for a month so only done that a couple of times. But I noticed when cleaning it today that the lens is there under the door mirror. The handbook doesn't mention them at all which is a bit odd, since it seems to include everything else whether fitted or not. i.e. presumably to cover all models.

Not the usual solenoid issue with my filler flap, the problem with mine is the hinge that holds the door on has physically snapped off. I took the car back to the dealer I bought it from and was told it would be "A couple of days" to get the part in. That was on June 30th. I've since emailed 3 times and phoned 4 times, only to be told each time that somebody would call me back, but as is always the case with dealers., nobody has done. The cheeky !Removed! even told me the other day "they're very busy and short staffed and I'm not helping by keep calling and sending messages". Tough s**t pal, because if you're going to repeatedly promise me a callback and not deliver I'm going to keep calling you. That's the story so far. IO can't have it done next week because it's going in to have the wheels refurbed, and from 4th August my missus is going into hospital for a knee op so I can't be without a car, so I've emailed them an ultimatum saying if they can't do it between the 25th July and 3rd August to let me know and I'll get someone else to do it, and send them the bill. Anyway, my question is, assuming this plastic hinge isn't particularly expensive, does anyone know how much of a job it is to replace it? I know you can't see the far end of the hinge from outside the car, so I assume the assembly will have to be taken apart from inside the boot. Any advice appreciated, I'd rather not have to take it in to somebody else and try to get them to pay for it so that has to be a last resort really, but I'm not expecting them to get it done for when I need it to be done. I'm also not sure if it's an MOT fail, I assume it is - the fuel filler door is current just stuck on with double sided tape.
