  1. Anthony If were you I would run a diagnostic test before doing anything else. Get any codes that have come up from reading through OBD2 and report the codes back on this thread. Suggestions would then be more relevant to what the actual problem is showing as. A cheaper Foseal OBD2 reader, about £20 - £25 on Ebay etc will usually adequately read engine faults. I have one I use successfully with my S-Type, although I have a much dearer iCarsoft PRO for other than engine codes. Good Luck with your current issues . Best Wishes and Regards, John ly
  2. Paul Pleased to hear that your car has been fixed to you satisfaction. Best Wishes and Regards, John
  3. Anthony, What are you asking opinions on. Whether he was right or wrong. Or if you should have changed plugs and coils. You do not state if the car problems have been solved. Was the problem ever diagnosed through the OBD2 connector with a diagnostic unit of some type.
  4. Please do not discount a discharging battery. S-Types are particularly susceptible to loss of battery charge. Mine will start doing sill things with codes etc if it is not kept regularly charged, even if being used on long runs. I have a CTEK 7.0 and make a point of having it charge the battery at least for 24 hours once per week. The battery is a 95Amp.Hr as recommended and is just 12 months old. I now do not suffer anywhere near as many silly codes and warning cropping up. The submission concerning hoses is also very important, if in any doubt run or have run, a smoke test which will usually show up where there is any potential leak. In the "good old days", (excuse that but I am now 72 years young), we used to very sparingly use carburettor aerosol cleaner around the hose joints and listen for any increase in RPM. That would also give a good clue where the leaky hose was. Good luck with correcing the proble. Best Wishes and Regards, John
  5. Welcome. Regards, John
  6. Gregory My view is that "you get what you pay for.) I suspect it is not so much the cost of painting but the labour involved in removing/refitting bumper and repairing it. Plainly I do not know where you have been for the quote but I imagine cheaper quotes could be obtained, which probably comes back to "you get what you pay for." I would suggest you shop around a bit and then make your decision based upon what you see at the premises you visit for quotes and the prices you are quoted. Do not be affraid to ask to see the work they aare currently doing. Best Wishes and Regards, John
  7. Dawne Beaulieu National Moltor Museum, 26th June 2022. SIMPLY JAGUAR. Almolst on your doorstep, perhaps we will see you there?Details on this Forum. Best Wishes, John
  8. Dawne, Enjoy your new car Best Wishes, John
  9. Ray You will stand a better chance of selling this car for your brother if you had some photos and a lot more details, miles, no of owners, service history, condition etc etc etc. Regards, John
  10. One reads so many of these stories with XF`s and XE`s I am surprised that Jaguar have bee successful in selling these models. I would by no means suggest that my S-Type has been 100% perfect but at her age and with 64 K miles she does not seem to cause as many problems. To think I was actually contemplating upgrading to an XF or an XE, but I think I am likely to stick with my S-Type , which I personally feel was the last of the true Jaguar styled models. I am hoping she will see me out, being I am now 72 years young and must surely have a limited time of enjoying driving ahead of me. Good luck and Best Wishes to Everyone. Regards, John
  11. The results from a reader will depend on how good the reader is. Some of the cheaper ones are not so good at finding/diagnosing codes, other than direct engine related matters. This could be a problem that is not directly engine originated.
  12. My S-Type is currently having sills replaced and the whole underside re-undersealed. It was MOT`d one montha go and was not even picked up for rust. Mainly because the plastic sill covers on the S-Types actually hide the metal sills and they cannot be seen without removing the plastcc covers. That is a real easy job, but MOT inspectors cannot do it because they would have to replace them as well. I had my sill covers removed purposely so as I knew what the score was. I am in a very lucky position, my son in law is Sales Manager at a Main Dealer and they do all of my work. As has been quoted before, "It is not always what you know, but who you know." Good for getting the attention you need, when you need it and also benefits from family rates. Best Wishes when you take the sills off and have a look. Regards, John
  13. Mick Good news and congratulations. Regards, John
  14. Roisin Sounds serious and if it is a loud haeavy sounding knock is probably "Big End Trouble". Will be expensive to repair. I imagine your choices are: 1/ Have the engine repaired........... probably not a good financial action. 2/ Buy a good secondhand engine and have it fitted .......... again probably a dear financial action. 3/ Advertise the car, outlining the fault and hope to get a reasonable offer from someone who has or can acquire a replacement engine. Again not going to be a financial success I would think. Sometimes your first loss is your best loss. I am assuming this car has no sort of warranty or guarantee that you could try claiming on. Best Wishes for an acceptable outcome. Regards, John
