Almost Dead Battery With Strange Occurance
Freebird Paul replied to Freebird Paul's topic in Jaguar Technical
Hi BIG John, Thankyou for your valuable thoughts, turned out i was lucky as after calling the AA all i had was a dead 5 year old battery which he replaced for me at just shy of £200. No corrupted software or any module issued were found after starting for the first time with the new battery. All i had to do was reset the park brake and windows and all was good to go. Cheers and regards Paul. -
Evening All, My car is a 2006 XK 4.2 with an almost dead battery after returning to the car after 1 month away from the country. While attempting to open the car with the remote nothing happened just dead however i noticed the alarm red light on the facia was flashing. So I removed the key from the fob and pulled off the cover from the front passenger door and got into the car to find no door opening lights and no response from the button to open the boot. I then got into the boot via behind the number plate. The boot lights were on but very dim. Now here is the strange thing, as soon as i got into the car from the passenger door all 4 side lights came on and are still on despite plugging into my battery smart charger which i will leave on now until the battery is fully charged. By the way i had my battery checked 3 months ago out by the company that fitted it 4 yrs ago and it passed their test. Any suggestions how to turn off the side lights would be much appreciated, Now that darkness is coming very nice people are now knocking on my house door to tell me iv'e left my lights on! Thanks, Paul.

Evening Julian, Your'e welcome, i always try to buy things from a recommendation and i just beleive their car covers are better than most you see around these days. I also have one of their premium indoor covers which i keep on another Merc i have in Spain, it is also a very good fit and quality should you need an indoor cover. Regards Paul.

Hi Julian, I have had good experience of a terrific outdoor waterproof cover for my 32yre old Merc SL from a company called Coverdale. here is a link for you to check them out but i recommend the model they call Platinum, it fits the car perfectly and is fully snug fit all the way around under the sills, front and rear bumper. They also include 2 straps to anchor the cover in very windy conditions. Here is the link: https://www.carcarpets.co.uk/jaguar-s-type-saloon-car-cover-1999-to-2008-54769-p.asp And here is a pic of my SL under the coverdale, NOTE: that it is not anything like the bulk standard silver/grey shiny material, it's a soft feel waterproof fit.

Battery Drain after 10 days away
Freebird Paul replied to londonxk8's topic in XK8 / XKR ( X100) 1996 - 2006
Morning Richard, I recently purchassed a solar charger and although i have used it these past few weeks it's difficult to say whether it's any good for when the car is left for long periods. I will be going away for a month later in Sept so that will be a true test of it's ability. Anyway here is a link from amazon to take a look: https://aax-eu.amazon.co.uk/x/c/JIZfbp4BSFq-wEyNOmSbh04AAAGRpx4oXwMAAAH5AQBvbm9fdHhuX2JpZDMgICBvbm9fdHhuX2ltcDEgICCaDDQz/http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CDGX2MYK/ref=syn_sd_onsite_desktop_0?ie=UTF8&psc=1&pf_rd_p=5d943da7-b45b-4f0a-b413-7648ce2a1b78&pf_rd_r=AF0QMHTEHP2878RZR4XS&pd_rd_wg=M5sv6&pd_rd_w=G7sXO&pd_rd_r=5efe37c6-7667-4712-bb44-80d96ff86ee7&aref=Aq4z8PyH7I -

Hi Ghazali, Welcome aboard, if you explain in some detail what issues you have i am sure there will be people on here that can help you get them fixed. -
Hi Jim, Many thanks for elaborating my options for streaming music from my android phone, before i contact cartronics thought i would check my Aux port as you mentioned it was beside the dummy slot for the key fob, however it doesnt seem to be there, please see the picture. Am i looking in the right place Jim?

Good Evening Mitch, Sorry to learn of your conv top issues, I previously enquired from Top Hydraulics (US conv top specialist) who have many videos from most popular car brands. Check out their video for the XK (X150) Hope it might help you! Cheers Paul.

Good Evening Jim, Thanks for your comment, very interesting. So without any need to touch the infotainment screen and systems are you saying that there is an add on component that plugs into the "Aux" port in the centre console? By the way Jim, forgive my ignorance but where in the centre console do i find the "Aux" port? Cheers Paul.

Evening All, I have a 2006 XK 4.2 convertible which has the usual infotainment screen, everything works as it should, but the audio is limited to radio & CD only. My question: Is there anyway to stream music from my phone through the bluetooth connection which the car does have but right now it only works to make & receive calls. Have any fellow members acheived streaming with their XK using an aftermarket device suitable for the XK (X150) ?

Hi Phil, I have the sane noise as you from my 2006 XK, it's been there from when i first acquired the car 3 yrs ago. I've kind of got used to the buzzing and never attempted to fix it, but i did find this video on you tube should you be more inclined to have a go fixing it, please let us all know should you have a go at doing it!

Morning Richie, Maybe try these people https://www.prestigecarpartsuk.com/

Morning Gary, I bought mine for a 2006 XK4.2 at https://www.satnavishop.co.uk/ Cost was just £30.00, arrived in a few days and works perfectly. Regards, Paul.
-
Morning Justin, Very interesting idea, just wondering what motivated you to change the location for the parkbrake?
-
Hi Ed, You could try thesepeople Prestige Car Parts UK – Norfolk Prestige Car Parts UK Ltd

Hi Shaun, i recently had a pedestrian sensor go on mine and the price for that from my local Jag dealer was the best price i could find, even second hand ones on EBay were more expensive. By the way when i pulled my old sensor out i was surprised to find it was an aftermarket part without the JLR logo like the new one had on it's label, obviously Chinese crap which is why it went bad. So, suggest you try your local Jag dealer first and beware of aftermarket lower prices if you see them on line!

XK 4.2 Convertible Top Hydraulic Fluid
Freebird Paul replied to Freebird Paul's topic in Jaguar Technical
Morning Jim, Thanks for your comment, point taken for the fluid ill leave well alone and just check the level. Regarding the pipework do you mean to check all pipes leading to all cylinders around the car? -
Evening All, I have owned my car 2 and half years now and while the convertible top works perfectly well (and always has done) i was wondering should i be changing the hydraulic pump fluid? When i purchassed the car the original owner (i am the second) passed me every service invoice since the car was new and after checking the pump fluid has never been changed which means it's been in the system some 18yrs! Shouls i leave well alone or change it as preventative maintence?

2006 XK (X150) Check Pedestrian Sensor On Dash
Freebird Paul replied to Freebird Paul's topic in Jaguar Technical
Morning Jim, Thanks for your comment and video, looks like a pretty straight forward task to change those 2 sensors if that's the problem. Can you recommend the brand of code reader i should buy for my model which is a 2006 X150 4.2? Also, is it really neccessary to disconnect the battery? iv'e heard comment that doing that can cause more trouble! -
Evening All, Car owned for two and half years with no messages on dash, all good however just recently i have a red triangle randomly flashing up on dash with "Check Pedestrian System" I never hit any pedestrians, honest! Any suggestions where i should start with trying to fix this myself would be much appreciated, Thanks Paul.

Hi Phil, I have the same happening on my 2006 XK except for the fact it happens when i turn left!, started soon after I aquired the car 2 1/2 years ago now. My specialist told me it's the stalk that needs replacing however your post just reminded me that i never got around to doing anything about it. So replace it or forget about it and save some dosh and enjoy your car.

sat nav map updated
Freebird Paul replied to Jaggs1980's topic in Jaguar Audio / Video / Electronics / Security Systems
Morning Leigh, I recently updated the maps in my XK which still had the original maps since the car was new (2006) If your XF has the same system as my XK which has the DVD player in the boot then it's a simple job to update the maps with a new disk, I bought mine from Sat Navi Shops, here is a link https://www.satnavishop.co.uk/ Just buy the latest disc from them for your car model and job done, mine works perfectly now! -
Morning Ian, I'm no mechanic either however i did try to DIY it but just removing the screws holding the wheel arch plastic cover was imposible, someone had tried before and in the process ruined them so will need to be drilled out. Looks like it's not difficult to remove the bottle for cleaaning it out together with the filter, take a look at this video should you decide to DIY.
