I Had an SE first and was slightly disappointed with the spec. It did however have the electronic aircon unit, multi disc boot changer etc. For some reason you get Sport models with no sat nav or the manual knobs for aircon, bought new with bog standard kit. Some SE models ordered and bought with extras. I trawled for sale ads for a couple of months looking for a higher spec car, eventually finding my current Sport 3.0 with sat nav, heated seats, all the extras.. I was still disappointed when I realised it did not have front parking sensors only rear! If you are not happy with the spec I would sell your car on and look more carefully for one with more extras. I doubt much can be done trying to recoup from the seller especially if you test drove it and you were happy at the time to part with your money.

Right. How is everybody elses gear knob on the X Type? Mine has worn terribly. It was the same on my previous SE 2.1litre, worn and tired looking. I have bought THREE aftermarket replacements brand new each claiming to be X Type specific and they arent! Either RUBBISH quality and ill fitting or completely unsuitable for lift reverse! Absolutely pants! So I rang Jag and tried to order a replacement.. Out of stock and unknown if they will ever be available again! So, bought another worn Jaguar X Type gearknob from Ebay, worse than mine, and I have just sent it off for a retrim. It will not have the number section on the top for gear selection, it will be completely good quality black leather all over so I should not get the problem coming back for a few years! I will update on this and post a picture once it arrives back and I fit it. If it is good and reasonable on price I can forward the details of the lady who does them to anyone who wants theres doing, and I will have a spare gear knob if anyone wants it.

Yes. There is the antenna end which is stuck inside the armrest on a velcro strap, (I think this is the BTUM unit? Whatever it is called it`s a pain in the backside to get at!!). Which is where you take the ashtray out, screws, pop out the gear gaiter, pop off the carpet trims on either side and take out more screws (Torx screws allover the place), also inside the cubby box there is a rubber mat that you pull out and find MORE screws.. Eventually you can lift up the armrest and reach under the cubby box and feel in under there, the antenna/BTUM unit is black plastic. The silver module further to the front of the armrest is the airbag module don`t mess with that... The actual bluetooth `module` is located in the rear boot, around the area where the cd changer and sat nav disc unit are. Try disconnecting both and leaving them for a few hours, then reconnect everything back up and see if it helps. If not either one may need replacing.. Or there is a fault with the wiring inbetween.. I am currently trying to fix mine also! I have disconnected the antenna end, but not the module in the boot yet. Let me know how you get on and I will let you know if I have any success!

Thanks for the replies guys. Yes I`ve just ordered a gear knob from ebay, I`ll take mine off and have it re-leathered and use the worn ebay one until mine comes back. Annoyingly, the new nav disc that seemed fine for the first couple of days is now playing up, so I have had to put the old 2002 disc back in. I will send it back and request another copy. Bought a new spring loaded bonnet leaper too as I missed the look from the old one I fitted on my previous X Type. Yes I know what you are saying with the paddle shift Trevor, you do get used to it, after driving it all day I was happy to use it, but little things like quickly whacking the car into reverse to pull back in the drive were a bit slower to do turning the dial back to R in the auto and I just enjoy driving manual cars more for sure. As a motorway cruiser the auto box and paddles were fine for me.

That is pretty cool mate! Though, it does look like it could launch something into space it comes up quick! Wouldnt want to get in the way of it! lol. Had the car serviced and M.O.T at Jag Leicester today, all good flew through M.O.T. Only advisories were - Corrosion to brake discs (Difficulty I have is it does not get driven allweek so they do get surface rust) Oil weep from sump gasket area (Quoted me £890 if I want this fixed??? This a ball ache job or something??) Slight coolant leak from thermostat housing to block (Quoted me £290 to fix this? Reasonable?) Transfer box duct missing (Not sure on this?) Other stuff noted was the gearknob worn as I asked for a replacement but they are out of stock, slight kerbing to wheels, and apparently rear heated screen causes poor radio reception when on which would explain why the later models have the shark fin aerial I guess. Courtesy car was a 2014 2.2l Diesel XF, which was `ok`, I would not have one it felt a little underpowered I do not know what a petrol version would be like, fun for a while using the flappy paddles but I was happy to be back in the X Type by the end of the day, autos are not for me!

Hi Bezza. The cig lighter is available on Amazon and cost £11.99, it is weighty compared to the stock plain cig lighter, not the best picture above but it is quite a nice touch. Regards the Bluetooth issue, any help appreciated! So far I have had all the dash out and stereo to check loose wires, opened up the antenna module, disconnected battery and reconnected, tried allsorts putting in the # codes on the touchscreen.. My next point of call was check/disconnect the module in the boot.. Which I still will when I have time, just always so busy with work.

Stupid question, but are you leaving the engine running when trying to remove the sat nav DVD? The disc will not come out unless the engine is running. I had to tap the button about three times with the car running, and it popped out. Then try turning igniton off (keeping the disc out) and then back on. Should be a message saying no sat nav disc, then pop it back in with the car running and do not switch off for about ten minutes whilst it reinstalls.

Thanks Peter. Well if you spot any optional extras or bits I can add let me know! In the meantime, my upgrade disc for the sat nav arrived, so installed that. It is a shame that they have not updated since 2012 for the X-Type, it seems the XF has a 2015 update. Also put in a nice jag cig lighter. Still putting off the boot phone module investigation.. Soon! Booked M.O.T and service at Jaguar Sturgess in Leicester for the 20th of this month, I did open up the air filter and had a look and it is clean as a whistle anyway to be honest. Get another stamp in the log as it has had one every year of it`s life so far I don`t want to break the trend!

Yeah I used to have the 2.1litre petrol, more economical than the 3.0. I had similar 37-38mpg on motorway journeys with a heavy right foot. :-)

Thanks Peter. I might get a car fire extinguisher to put in it. I did not know if my car should have come with a warning triangle, or a first aid box or something and they are missing? Does anyone know what extras should be in the car with those kinds of items if any? The space saver wheel and jack/tools are in there. I`m trying to get the car really spot on so buying bits as needed or whatever is missing. Pretty much there to be honest just this damn bluetooth but I won`t let it beat me! :-)

By the way, in my third picture where I replaced the courtesy light in the boot, there is a strap seemingly to hold something in place. Is there something missing from my boot?

Right well I still have not sorted the handsfree issue. However I did replace the blown bulb in the boot. I had also noticed that the gas struts that hold the bonnet were weeping, and were failing to hold the bonnet up! So I ordered a brand new set from Amazon for £60 and fitted those today, very easy job! Made by `Nitrolift`, they are meant to be a better quality and and last longer than the Jag counterparts so we shall see how they go. So all that is wrong with the car now is the bluetooth.. I will update on that situation soon! I did also notice that my sat nav disc is 2004, so will be ordering the 2012 upgrade disc now to replace that.

Does she (Miss Sat Nav) still tell you to `turn right soon`? Soon?? That does annoy me! But in general I have found the sat nav ok. The bluetooth is my problem...

Just the usual really, have a drive of it and check the brakes are good and the gear change does not feel like a spoon in a bowl of porridge. No engine management light problems, how regularly has it been serviced? Cambelt change, spark plugs changed. Gas struts that hold the front bonnet up can fail check those are supporting the bonnet when lifted. Check for body rust and around the sills, I had a £700 welding/sill and metal work replacing bill on my old SE.

Removed the annoying phone holder today, stereo out job and then just two screws holding it so that looks neater. Removed all the necessary interior trim to finally get to the bluetooth little black module thing inside the cubby box, disconnected it for ages and this has still not cured my bluetooth issue. Next weekend I will find the other module in the boot and try disconnecting that, failing that I can try replacing both I guess but they are rather expensive from what I can see searching the net, and no certainty that they will cure the problem.

Right! What an absolute ball ache to get to the bluetooth module! Just got mad and started taking things apart lol! Torx screws everywhere! The blutooth module is stuck on with velcro inside the cubby box between the seats, to get to this you need to remove the ashtray and center console plastics and the carpet trim. I`ve opened it up and all looks fine.. This is not a phone incompatibility issue as the thing does not even try and search for a phone, it is either this module I`ve just yacked out or the one in the boot I think. I have also had the stereo/sat nav unit out and cannot see any loose or disconnected wires.. Going to leave this disconnected for an hour and then put everything back together. I did remove the ugly phone holder at the same time so if this does not work at least I did one job successfully. lol. I cannot see any burn marks on the circuit board in the module so maybe it will turn out to be the one in the boot. It is an effort to get to the cubby box one! I hope the one in the boot is easier.

Yes, I normally average about 27mpg. Motorway journeys I have managed 30mpg, and around the town as poor as 22mpg.

Thanks Trevor, also had that information, I tried it on Sunday over and over again no joy. I have now come to the conclusion that it is either the phone module or the bluetooth module at fault. Spoken to an expert/Jag technician and he says try unplugging them and leaving over night, then connect back up and see if everything resets itself. One module lurks in the boot near the cd changer and the other is sited within the center armrest area. Started taking things to bits and then came across Torx style screws, so need to invest in some Torx screwdrivers before I can get any further! I will update if I solve this. If unplugging them does not work, new modules needed.

It`s something to do with the touchscreen system I`m sure. I have an Iphone 5 and a Blackberry and neither will work. You are supposed to get a screen with the keypad come up, and enter ##1*## or something similar. Most of the time, I get the message `phone in use` or `communication error contact dealer` and cannot even get to the keypad stage. Randomly, I get the phone keypad come on, but when I enter the code nothing happens. It is meant to come up with `discover handset` but it does nothing. Then I had `phone not powered on. Power on?`. But when you press power on nothing happens. There is something not right. The only other thing I have heard is there is some wiring in the boot running from the sat nav disc area/cd multichanger? Apparently you can unplug some wires and plug back in see if that clears it?? I gave up today it was really annoying me! My iphone briefly picked up `bluetooth handsfree device`, but then started searching again and that cleared off the screen. I`m stumped. Unless there is somthing that has packed in with the bluetooth that needs replacing? The dash looks a pig to take apart? I`ve changed car stereos in old corsas and my MR2s but they were easy clip off dash parts and a few screws, I don`t want to snap any clips on the X Type so thinking let someone who knows them well and has done it many times sort it out.

My X Type is in great condition, everything works as it should.. Except my bluetooth hands free. I`ve spent allday today turning ignition on and off, waiting six minutes, entering codes, trying to pair my phone, disconnecting the battery for an hour, reconnecting, entering touchscreen puk code, trying again.. IT IS DOING MY HEAD IN! The system is all there, it SHOULD be working.. Getting all sorts of weird messages on the screen, phone in use, replace handset, communication error please contact dealer.. I give up!! I need a specialist. I do not want to go to the Jag dealers, I want a reputable enthusiast. I Have an MR2 Turbo and that is looked after by a guru in Sheffield, I need to find a mechanic like him but for the Jag! Someone that has a love for Jaguars and knows them inside out. I live in Leicestershire but I do not mind taking it further away providing I get good service. Can anybody recommend me a specialist? Thanks. Dan.

I feel your pain! I have had so many touch ups and resprays over the years on my cars, I hate to think how much I have spent. Only this Wednesday, I have had the police around to document damage and get a crime ref number as my work VW Transporter van has been keyed all down the passenger side door. I try to park in a considerate manner all the time and leave everyone plenty of room. My MR2 Turbo has had a full respray and my X Type is minty clean, if they get touched I`ll be tearing my hair out.lol.
