Nah I`d never buy a second hand spring.lol. OK well that clears it up then so the Sport is a different spring to the others. Certainly sounds a good idea to fit both sides at the same time too. I`m not doing it myself I`m leaving it with a garage whilst I`m at work to sort, just want to make sure they do not fit the incorrect item I want my car to be exactly how it is meant to be. ie not a set of SE springs that will make my car wallowy if mine actually has some stiffer ones on which I`m guessing they are from what you say. CHeers.

On another `knocking` note, just had a horrendous knocking on my 3.0 Sport, took it in and on closer inspection it is a snapped spring. Can anyone tell me if the 3.0 Sport springs are different from Standard 2.1 or 2.5 etc or are they the same across the range? Cheers.

Haha, yeah you have put me off bothering with engine modification for sure! Sorry I missed the links there! I`ll take another look at sorting the phone over the weekend. OK final question for a while I promise! >> The 3litre engine, is it correct that this was jag specific or was it used in the mondeo? As I know there was a 3litre v6 in that? Not that it `really` matters, I`m just curious to know.

Ah just remembered... Bluetooth hands free.. If you look at my pictures you can see some kind of old phone holder, well when I press the phone button it says phone in use `replace handset` or similar.. Is it this that is causing the problem? I need it removing? There is a microphone on the ceiling above the drivers seat that looks original..? I would like to connect my own phone and make it work as it should through the car. Also would the sat nav screen had a remote when new? (Not that you need it! Just want my car `spot on` as it should have arrived from new). Again, any help and advice greatly appreciated!

X Typical >> Thamk you for the great reply, this forum is really picking up with knowledge being shared! Great stuff! Yes I could have sworn I saw a chap in a layby and his boot self raised, and he was still sat in the car. But the main thing is mine functions correctly as it should, so no problem I`m not fussed if the feature is not there, just the fact everything is spot on. How much is the Arden tune up approx.? Doesn't sound really worth it for 20 horses to be fair, cost vs gains. Unless your going to say 500 quid or so but I`m guessing by your reaction it`s more! And how much are people paying to convert to run with a supercharger? What is the supercharger of choice? Just curious but if it can`t handle it anyway, running the risk of damaging the engine? I`m used to Jap vehicles that`s all, always been of interest to me pushing a bit of extra power and I currently run a 300bhp MR2 Turbo, which will be getting a forged rebuild next winter.

Thanks for the replies. Yes the leaper I had on my SE was spring loaded, I thought they are road legal? I`m tempted to just keep the car standard to be honest though. The self raising boot thing, I could swear I saw an X Type boot self raise, and with the differently positioned button and weight difference between the boots from my old SE and the Sport, I was curious. It does not struggle to stay open, everything works as it should but if it is not meant to self raise that`s cool, so now I know nothing is wrong. Not going to bother with the tape deck messing as I have the 6 disc changer in the boot anyway so I can just burn a few cds and put them in there, looks a handy solution though for ipods etc. I agree a proper mesh is better than plastic with the grille, I do like the look of the later styles, I think this will be one thing I switch out! I can always keep the original and change back if I get bored. Oh finally.. The 3.0litre V6.. Power wise, is there any way of getting a little extra grunt? Not that it needs it, really is pokey and a quick car to be honest, but you know, any common ECU remaps or chipping that people do? Just curious as to if anybody tunes them a little?

http://www.carmats2u.co.uk/jaguar-x-type-car-matspetrol-03-on-918-p.asp Just bought these from the link above, I`ve gone for rubber mats and a rubber boot liner too. Custom fit for X-Type. I have a couple of questions on my car, answers and opinions please>>> 1) The boot lid is very heavy compared to my SE and the button is positioned under the lip rather than on the front, when I press boot release on the fob it pops open.. Should the boot self raise? Or can it from a button inside the car or somewhere? 2) Should this car have a remote control for the sat nav/audio system? 3) Shall I go for the later front grill or leave it as it is? Or do you think it will look better with the newer grill? 4) Shall I put a leaper on the bonnet (did it with the SE and I was quite fond of it..), or leave the bonnet original? Opinions please!

Well, I`ve had the car a couple of weeks now, and can safely say that I made the right choice exchanging my old SE 2.1! The gearbox is tight, the clutch feels just right, the suspension feels better and the AWD gives a more `planted` driving feedback. The steering wheel is a better design, the seats feel more supportive and when you put your foot down the extra power (230bhpish from factory?) is really noticeable. The car does have half the mileage of my old 02 plate though, this is on a 55 reg and in great condition. Well worth the drive from Leicester to Brighton to go and fetch it! 18inch alloys and the sport spoiler on the bootlid too. Usual electric everything, heated seats, sat nav built into the dash. Basically the exact spec I had been searching for over the past couple of months. It has full service history and was serviced and M.O.T`d the day I collected. Just need to get my reg plate transferred over and jobs a guddun! It currently has the incorrect size plate in the recess on the rear! Which is annoying me! Overall, massively chuffed and money well spent I`d say! A few pictures >>>

best thing you like about your x type
DAN_V6_SE replied to the mechanic's topic in Jaguar X-Type Club
The purr of the 3litre V6, and the factory fitted sat nav that my last x type lacked. Brilliant cars I love them. The shape is stylish the XF is a fantastic car but has joined the line of sheep and begun to mingle in with the crowd.. The S Type and X Type kept that distinct Jag shape the lines flowing down the car, beautiful machines if you ask me! -
BTW FAO Admin.. Any chance I can change my username to DAN_V6_SPORT now instead?lol! Yes I am serious I`m sad I know!!

The trip to Brighton went well! Had 3 and a half hours drive down thinking `this car runs lovely, why am I getting rid of it for another the same shape??` But you know what, when I got there I parked it up the two side by side (which I forgot to take a photograph of!!) went and had a chat with the dealer (Mark of Abbott and Sons in Brighton), saw the history of the car, took it for a test drive and all I can say is... WOW! The difference is AMAZING! My old car had much higher mileage but drove well, but felt a little tired the seats were getting a bit worn etc.. This new 3.0litre has full service history, better seats being the sport model, twin exhausts, it goes like a rocket for a naturally aspirated car too. I will make a new thread and post up some pictures for those interested. But I have to say i`m well chuffed!!

Well, yes I saved her! It`s not in bad nick now.. BUT guess what.. Tomorrow I`m trading her in.. To be replaced with.. ANOTHER X TYPE! Woohoo! I`m travelling from Leicester to Brighton to collect her, a 3litre Sport with factory fitted Sat Nav and all the usual specs/heated seats etc.. The SE has been great and really given me the Jag bug, but I`ve been trawling the internet looking for a good X Type Sport with the excact spec I wanted with a manual gearbox and finally one turned up. Same colour as my 2.1litre but 18inch wheels, and of course all wheel drive for the winter. I will update with pics when I have collected her! 55 plate 4 and a half grand which I think is a fair price.Think this one is a keeper!
-
Update on this car...lol.. M.O.T failed! Rotten sills! Handrake dodgy.. But.. Had new sills welded in and a new brake caliper put on and she lives on! Pick it back up tomorrow, another 12 months motoring hopefully hassle free!
-
Can anyone also tell me the part numbers for the intake manifold upper and lower gaskets? I believe these need replacing ideally when the spark plugs are changed? I need to get the spark plugs done it looks a bit of a ballache to be honest I think I might take it in to a garage, I have the spark plugs already. And also what coolant you guys use? I always had `forlife` in my toyotas. Cheers.

Right oil and filter done, fuel filter done. I found a split pipe (badly split!) one that runs near the air filter box, I just popped off the plastic pipe and replaced with a piece of new hose, the top end is tight anyway but the bottom where it connects to was slightly smaller but i`ve tightened with a jubilee clip.. All seems well no problems and cant hear any air escaping now.. But the engine management light is STILL on..
-
That's a very helpful link Dell cheers.
-
Haha, Cheers Mr D I thought they look quite smart myself. :-) I bet the 3.0L sport models have bigger brakes then have they? If I ever go for one I`ll just nick the alloys off this, though some nice big discs would look good behind them! Stops ok as it is really, it isn't powerful enough to bother with an upgrade. Going to switch my leaper over and give it a good wash and then just keep it nicely maintained, I have my MR2 Turbo for the silly modifications! lol.
-
Right I see, so if I have code p1000 that's not the problem? So why would the engine light stay on? I cleared the codes but it still comes on... So must still be something else stored? I`ll have another look when I get time but at the minute I`ve been really busy.
-
And the new plate fitted.. Old one was a standard square plate which looked pants so sorted that with the reg change! Uploaded with ImageShack.us
-
The replacement wing panel fits perfectly and is an exact colour match, got lucky with that! I`m going to go silver with the leaper, I think the gold would be better suited to maybe a black or green car. If anyone wants to buy the gold one CHEAP, £12 posted! Cost me about 30 quid a few weeks back it`s in good condition. Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Cool I`m sticking with it I think it`s decent stuff. On another note, got my new plates on as the DVLA finally processed my new reg, and replaced the damaged panel. So it`s looking spanking again!
-
Ahh I see, I cant find anything about that in mine. Well, I`m not gonna worry! Think it will be fine, has the same codes recommended and 5W 30 still, I just thought fully synthetic is just meant to give the enigne better protection from cold starts and initially starting the car up, would be interested to know why they are saying it isnt good to use??
-
Where did you hear that bud? My X Type handbook states > Recommends Castrol, 5W 30 viscosity spec WSS A or B, ACEA1. The castrol Magnatec Fully Synth meets all the spec from what the handbook recommends, has the exact code the handbook states as suitable, doesnt say anywhere about fully synth or has to be semi you can probably use either and probably run fine. I`m sticking with it anyway mate.lol. Fully synth is meant to be better overall for an engine isnt it from startup so I dont see the problem?
-
Fully Synth Castrol Magnatec 5W 30 just done mine.Owners handbook has the code for the oil and matches to this.
-
Castrol Magnatec 5W 30 fully synthetic is the one you want, oil codes for the x type engines in the handbook match to it also so it is the recommended oil. Dunno what alternatives others are using but this is what I have.
