  1. It sounds as if the timing is slightly out on one or more of the camshafts, it's the sort of fault that needs proper investigation though, not an internet diagnosis unless you have the right test gear and can do it yourself with advice/help from here. That said, prime suspect would be as i said in my first line.
  2. Insomnia (long story, i grew up in the country and lived next door to open fields that attracted grasshoppers - somehow they would get in the house, walk across the bedroom ceiling and fall off)
  3. Welcome aboard! Biggest thing to check is the sills, especially at the rear. They're hidden behind plastic skirts and can rot spectacularly. Other than that, all the usual checks apply when buying a used car. There are some age-specific things, the early cars use different ATF for a start and using the later ATF will result in poor shifting and fault messages on the dashboard. Other things changed on VIN changes too and some parts for early cars are now NLA so work out if your prospective purchase needs anything and if it's NLA you may have to get replacements made as a one-off Other than that, they're great cars, mine always puts a smile on my face!
  4. Handy to know about the parts-bin raiding that went on - the screenwash pump on many early S Types was also shared with many Ford vehicles and a Volvo too!
  5. Condiments (Rude > crude >crudites > condiments)
