  1. You don't clarify as to whether the vibration or "limp" is only there when braking from speed or whether there is a vibration at the rear when travelling at a constant speed. If the vibration is there all of the time, especially when travelling at constant speed, the most likely culprit is tyres, differential or driveshafts - potentially a driveshaft has suffered a minor distortion and that would result in both vibration and / or the limp. If you have access to a dial gauge indicator, you could check if the driveshafts are running true or suffering a minor out of round. N6 JMX
  2. Hi Charlotte, I am not overly familiar with the X-type but from a general knowledge perspective, practically all of the "modules" in a modern Jaguar need to be programmed to the car. This can be achieved, I believe, using the Jaguar or Auto Logic diagnostic equipment. Not sure it is something the home mechanic can readily achieve though. You say you have already tried lots of fixes, but have you tried a new battery in the car? Again, modern Jaguars rely very heavily on a good battery and it would amaze you how many, apparently random and unrelated faults are thrown up by a failing battery, which can still start the vehicle, but have voltage spikes that upsets the electronics. I recommend that the battery be considered a consumable and changed when it gets to 5 years old. As given, the ability to start the car is no longer the best measure of the battery's health. N6 JMX
  3. Hi Tim, the law changed which meant a spare wheel was no longer mandatory, so naturally manufacturers stopped supplying one as standard. A space saver spare wheel could be specified from new, but quite a lot of first time owners missed ticking that box and consequently, later owners question why there is no spare. As Jim says above, these space savers can be sourced from the internet, but you need to know exactly what you are sourcing before committing to spend money. The Portfolio is likely fitted with 20-inch wheels, with different section front and rear, and large front callipers and accordingly a space saver is the option. Don't try and use an OEM front wheel on the rear hub as catastrophe lies in that direction. The correct space saver can be obtained from companies like Road Hero, who sell via Kwik Fit. You would need the 19-inch space saver option to work with the Portfolio specification - to fit over the front calliper. The Road Hero comes as a kit, because you would also not have a jack, wheel brace, or chocks and all of these are included in the kit. Hope this helps. N6 JMX

  5. Hi Shaun, if you are a competent home mechanic, then believe it or not, completing a service on the X-150 XKR is not as daunting as it may first appear. You can purchase an oil vacuum for realistic money and with the cost of labour at garages, that outlay can be recovered in just a couple of services - years. I do have access to a handy home service guide for both the X-150 and X-100 for anyone wishing to read up on the matter. N6 JMX
  6. Further to the post above, the type of Ducks Bill used in the New XK changed during 2009, with the c/o being at VIN B34500, so cars in 2009 could still have the older, easily blocked version. In the photo below, the older / original version is at the top and the new / improved version is at the bottom. N6 JMX
  7. Try placing the gear lever in neutral as it is also possible to start between neutral and park. The interlock may be suspect in park mode. N6 JMX
  8. Hi Martin, effectively yes. The system will effectively remain at the last available update point. Any changes on the roads driven will not he held in the system. N6 JMX
  9. Hi Shaun, the variance likely comes about because there is no drain plug on the 5.0 S/C engine and the oil should be removed by "vacuuming" out via the tube designed specifically for the task. You are then required to replace the exact amount removed and thereby avoid over filling. That said, the following should be adhered to, including the oil removed with the filter replacement: Quantity: 7.25 Litres Type: 0W-20 or 5W-20 Specification: Fully Synthetic to Jaguar recommended spec. WSS-M2C925A/STJLR.51.5122 Hope this helps. N6 JMX
  10. A small word of warning on the use of the one touch fob button for roof raise and lower. Whilst it is a nice trick, the recommendation is NEVER raise or lower the roof of a convertible without the engine running. i.e. don't rely on the battery to do the work. Batteries in the X-150 have a hard life and I have always recommended that the battery be replaced at 5 years old. Many, many spurious faults arise from a poor battery and in today's world, the ability to start the car is not the best indication of its health.
  11. In 99 out of 100 of these events, it is down to the "Ducks Bill" drain from the AC. Original post indicated that the garage fixed the leak from the AC, but did not clarify what was leaking or what was fixed. It is a high possibility that the Ducks Bill is blocked and requires to be updated to the newer version.
