I have owned a still beautiful Phoenix Red 1998 first reg XKR coupe since 2006, third owner. Although used regularly throughout its life it's genuine mileage is only about 90,000, and it has been well maintained. Unfortunately on latest MOT it has been comprehensively failed on major suspension faults with problems of chassis rust at critical points, with the result that a fix will require complete strip out of front section of the car. With further similar issues on the way (note as advisories) and some small incipient body issues. Impact is a repair bill well in excess of the car's value and garage (thoroughly reputable and knowledgeable) recommend scrapping as only viable option.
Any suggestions? At very least the superb engine, gear box etc should go to a good home? I am concerned that the online "scrap my car merchants" will not only con me, but also that the car will literally be scrap metal.
Knocking on 78 and not technically competent, reckon I am past " a project".
