  1. Hi Jim Thanks for your reply. You're undeniably right that the car would be worth a lot more with the issues fixed, but unfortunately it seems the ticking noise is essentially behind the timing cover rather than the supercharger, hence the additional cost / labour involved. That said, given there's been no take up on this thread I guess there's limited appetite from others to take it on either which might bring it down to the binary decision as whether to pay more to fix it than the car is technically worth, or to scrap a car that in many ways is still in great nick. Not a position I'd have chosen! I liked your description of the buyer profile - might adopt that one! Doesn't every family guy have a little bit of hooligan in there somewhere?! Thanks Simon
  2. Hi all, My 2011 (60 plate) XF-R has developed a "ticking" noise in the engine, which unfortunately is going to require a partial engine strip down to diagnose and resolve. Obviously the parts required may not be that substantial (depending on what is causing the noise), but the big cost is for the time and labour to do it. Unfortunately, taken together with a couple of other faults (detailed below) it is marginal whether the repair costs (undertaken by a garage) will exceed the value of the car. This thread is therefore partially a "for sale" thread, but also to ask for any advice as to whether this is the best place to look for a "project" car buyer? Seems like a good place, but I am sure many of you will know better than me! Aside from the issues mentioned the car is in very good condition for its age and it would seem a tragic waste to have to look at breaking a car that still runs (and very potently too!). Other key details are that mileage is just over 110k and is currently at an Independent Jag specialist in Milton Keynes. I'm happy to get photos if there's any interest but it's a 30 minute drive each way so was hoping to gauge potential interest first! As well as the engine noise the only other things I'm aware of that need attention are that the offside rear back box on the exhaust is corroded and the nearside (whilst not as bad) is not too far behind, and the two front tyres are close to needing replacement. Other than this there's no error messages, a full service history since I bought the car (2014) and the bodywork and interior are in very good condition. All mechanical issues have been attended to as they have arisen and so there shouldn't be anything other than the points mentioned. For a person with the equipment, time and knowledge to undertake some of the work themselves it offers the potential to own a genuine rocket at a fraction of the normal price. Ideally I'm hoping to agree on a price in the region of £2,500 but am open to sensible offers. If there's any other information that would be helpful to include then please let me know - hopefully it's clear that I'd like to find a good home for the car so that it can continue to provide fun and great service to a new owner, rather than having to look at the more terminal options. Thanks all! Simon
