Malcolm from Hampshire

I’ve tried reversing and going forward in full lock both left and right in the garden centre car park there was no noise no clunk. The clunk only happens when I reverse the car out of my drive and then drive down the road but this is when the car is always cold. I wonder if the power steering mechanism makes the clunk when cold and makes no noise when the engine is warmed up. i’m not sure either way. any further advice would be appreciated. regards. I have a Jaguar XF. When reversing out of my drive on full lock the nearside front wheel makes a clunk clunk sound. i’m not sure if this is dangerous but obviously wish to check it. Recently a mechanic drove the car but no clunks. But it’s still doing this when I leave my drive . I’m trying to determine if this is normal or dangerous? any observations appreciated. Malcolm.

hello I am the new proud owner of a 2009 Jaguar XF. Can anyone recommend a Jaguar specialist in Hampshire or Dorset, please. I live in Lymington between Bournemouth and Southampton. i’m getting exhaust fumes in the cabin and I’m not sure what the problem is. Additionally there is a slight tapping sound as if a wheel bearing requires renewal. A local garage owner took a test drive jacked the car up and checked the wheels all of which he confirms are fine. I figured a specialist would be able to diagnose the issue. recommendations and advice would be much appreciated. regards. Malcolm.

Thanks for all your very helpful advice. I ended up buying an 18 inch wheel including the jack et cetera for £110 from a breakers in Edinburgh . I then had the wheel checked for fitting et cetera by a local tire company. The wheel only just fits and it’s a very tight squeeze in the boot. But I’m happy to have a spare so very pleased with the result. Regards. Malcolm.

Jim many thanks for responding so promptly and comprehensively. The road tires are X1EX2E310 . 245/4 5R18 100 W tubeless. There is no mention on the tires of the letters RSC. there is a compressor kit , but no Jack Choc or wheel brace. Much to my embarrassment I should’ve looked at this when purchasing the car. The spare which I’ve bought today says it can only go to 50 miles an hour it is a Pirelli 135/80R18 104m. The wheel (not the tire ) measures approximately 19 1/2 inches, almost the size of the other wheels and the stud pattern appears to be the same. on balance I’d like to have a space saver wheel that fits the boot and gives me peace of mind. any further comments when you have a moment would be gratefully received. thanks and regards. Hello I’m a new member . I’ve just purchased a 2009 Jaguar XF of which I’m very pleased. there is no spare wheel so I purchased a secondhand one that came from a 2012 Jaguar. The wheel doesn’t fit into the space designed for it in the boot, it’s too large. I don’t know if this is a common problem and spare wheels come in different sizes for different aged Jaguars. Do I really need a spare? I would be grateful for your views. regards. Malcolm.
