  1. Thanks joe-dot-com. Am still a bit wary of stripping down the headlamp unit or cooking it in the oven so for the sake of a few hundred quid would be nice to have a backup when I inevitably get it wrong. Tempted to just wait until the MOT is due in December so a local garage can point, laugh and charge me a fortune
  2. Just for a quick laugh. Here's a pic of my new monster. Only had it about a month and slowly working through everything wrong with it
  3. Just did a bit of googling and found this on Ebay. Would it be easier to just admit defeat and swap it? Anybody know if this will fit? Haven't had the chance to check the part numbers yet but mine's a 2005 model STR https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/116401446788
  4. Thanks JOE-DOT-COM Wanted to check before I go for the old "Spanner with a Hammer" technique. Suspected it could be a bit more involved so am going to have a try with your idea first. Have never tried cooking a headlamp assembly so will update this thread after the fire brigade have put it out. Might take a while 🤣 Before I do, is it true you need to drop the front bumper to get the headlamp unit out? Sorry but its my first time working on these big monsters as my current V8 is a '68 Daimler that's really easy to mend
  5. Have just bought and am slowly doing up a 2005 STR. It has the well known droopy headlight issue on the passenger side and after a bit of googling am told you can fix it by inserting a screw in the right place. I'm not convinced and don't want to start drilling holes in my new pride and joy if its just usual internet BS. Has anyone tried this? Does it work? I suspect it doesn't
  6. Have owned two of these X-Types and sort of understand. They were a bit of a compromise but their poor reviews at the time were genuinely unfounded. Yes, it comes from a time when Ford owned Jaguar and were desperately trying to make the company profitable. So does everyone's much hated S-Type where faster or rarer versions are getting some love back Yes, the floopan, engine and switchgear was done by ford but please remember it still used original Jag interiors and trim Am selling or scrapping mine because it's an old, poorly maintained one but does have a a few points going for it. Good, old Frod Dynatic Engine and the CD player works, but only on Tuesdays. PM me fore it has to go to the great Jag Dealer in the Sky I also need the space as my little Daimler 250 might be coming back soon Can honestly say I love them. Not a great idea from Jaguar but served as my intro to the world of. As the competitor to the BMW 3 series it failed, as a cheap old wreck that nobody loves it still makes sense if you can afford the repair bills on an old car
  7. Depends on where you live in the North West. These guys quoted me £300 to do my old X-Type. Never used them myself but get good reviews. Only reason I didn't as am in the middle of swapping it for something bigger, older, faster and more evil See my latest post where I fess up to buying a genuine old muscle car future generations will hate me for https://www.autotrimmerseyside.co.uk/
  8. Just call me "four Jags" Cadwell. Have finally found a car I have always wanted and loved. It's a 2005 S-Type R variant. The big brute with a "proper" V8 and supercharger that still whines and doesn't make any strange noises I know it has a couple of minor faults. One of the headlights is permanently pointing at the ground and there is a bit of interior trim missing on the passenger side A pillar Other than that can't find anything seriously wrong with it and definitely think it's going to be a keeper for an old spanner armed with a hammer So am asking two questions Dear old V8 owners. What have I missed. What is going to go wrong soon or already has and I've not found it yet? What's the going black market rate for a spare kidney? 🙂

  9. The Diesel XF is sadly gone. I have a new daily driver - a 2006 X Type. Sadly its only a 2.5 but is an SE with the agricultural 4WD. I point and laugh at people in the snow and is turning into a brilliant little winter car
  10. Hi Hope you've managed to get this fixed but just a couple of ideas I have an old 2000 S-type that occasionally throws a gearbox fault. I suspect mine is just old, needs a gearbox service. Is it stiff or jerky when you put it in drive and does it get better when it warms up? Could be we have a similar problem there - old age and poor maintenance. Haven't looked into it yet but suspect it could get expensive As for the engine light, buy an OBD scanner. You can get cheapies off Ebay or Amazon for under 20 quid. Sadly my old generic one isn't that good and keeps telling me there's nothing wrong despite the fact that I know my old wreck needs new plugs and coil packs. You never know. From my limited experience your two faults could be related.
  11. Definitely wrong forum. However it's a question I've been meaning to ask I have a 2006 X-type and have 2009 & 2012 sat nav disks from other vehicles (both genuine Jaguar) . Have tried them both and they just sit there for ages saying "updating...." Am I risking breaking what little sat nav I have or am I being impatient? Has anyone tried updating the software and is there anything I need to know before I break things. Would be nice if it knew where I lived but if it can't be done I'm happy to live with it.
  12. Mine had one. An old 2009 V6 3.0 Deisel. Even said so in the owner's guide which I can copy and post if needed. Definitely not fitted to V8's or petrol only which are still very rare. Just give it a good cruise at around 50mph/70kph for half an hour. The fault might clear itself. If it doesn't you might have big, expensive problems. Better to try simple cheap things first
  13. To add to my collection of old jags have just bought a 2006 2.5 petrol SE. Can't see anything wrong with it yet except the glove box is stuck and won't open. Have mended a lot of old jags but this is a new one as normally I have problems with them staying shut. Any clues where to start? Can I lever it open without breaking the plastic or am I better trying to pick the old ford lock on it? Runs like a dream and definitely a keeper so suggestions welcome before I start breaking out the screwdrivers and put my scouser thieves head on 🙂
  14. I think you mean it's a V6 Diesel. Mine complained about a full DPF occasionally but the odd quick blast on a motorway usually cured it. Are you sure it's dead and doesn't just need a good drive? Even the owners manual says if you give it a constant 50-ish for a bit it cleans/resets itself.
  15. Just to introduce myself I'm Brian Cadwell and am sorry to say I have loved old Jags for years and have sadly had to retire a couple to the Great Jaguar Dealer in the Sky. Joined almost a month ago and have only just got round to saying hello My current collection are all old cheapies - a 2000 S-Type, a 2019 Diesel XF and my pride and joy a '68 Daimler 250 that's currently having it's engine and gearbox rebuilt. Here's a couple of piccies
