  1. My local scrappy is 10 miles away and I've got a V8, it's cheaper to pay for the clips than a gallon of Shell's finest!
  2. Will you boys keep it down? I've spent the last two years convincing mine that it's a GT car for long fast trips across the continent and not a golf cart and now you've all gone and reminded it! Thanks guys!
  3. Thanks Paul, All ordered, actually got mine from SNG Barrett , postage was a couple of quid cheaper (Yes I am that tight!)
  4. Hi Paul What's the part number? I've got a couple missing too Cheers Mike
  5. Sounds like the A/C control module, mine went and it blew 35°C air into the cabin no matter what I did, Had it regassed etc and it made no difference. There is a company who does reconned units, sorry can't remember their name, any other members know who?
  6. Had a couple of young French lads pointing it out to their dad in a rest area on the Route des Anglais last year on the way to Italy.....chuffed? yeah that covers it nicely!
  7. I concur, worked a treat, then used a good quality silicon polish to seal them
  8. I think that qualifies as a result!!
  9. Fitted a £75 HID kit from Ebay absolutely brilliant! (sorry) Just passed it's MOT, no problems
  10. If you can find a '55 or earlier instead of an 06 plateTax is limited to £285 even for the R
  11. Hi Josh, Mine went last summer and I had them(!) done at a local specialist for about a thousand pounds, it turned out that more than just the main rad needed changing. The point is, when I dropped by the whole of the front of the car including the front bumper, bonnet and the wheels were neatly laid out next to the car. Despite the cost I'm glad I didn't try it myself but you may be more adventurous than me!
  12. Hi again Marcus, I really would recommend driving the one with the 4.2 before you make your mind up. The 4.2 had a couple of major fixes over the 4.0 including cylinders that didn't go porous and a cam chain guide that didn't break. Also you get the ZF 6 speed box, I know I'm going on about it but there really is a world of difference.
  13. Best bits: Noise, sounds fantastic, it's either silent or full chat V8 howl Power, 60 in just over 6 seconds makes it as fast or faster than most newer cars and it was still pulling hard at 150 in Germany last year Handling is superb for such a big car, mountain passes near Stresa in Italy were a barrel of laughs Surprisingly good on fuel 32 on a long run to Italy 4 up and I get 27 to 28 on average The engine has been faultless over the last 20,000 miles Bad bits: It does go through tyres every 12-15000 miles but what do expect with 300hp? Several expensive visits to Nene Jags, aircon computer, all radiators replaced etc but that could have happened to any S-type If you don't like autos there isn't a manual option Whether you go for the 3.0 or 4.2 make sure that if do buy an auto it's the six speed ZF, I've driven both and the later 'box is light years ahead of the older Ford unit. Hope that helps,
  14. Hi Guys, I spoke to a technician at ZF last year and they recommend a service at 100000km I had mine done at a local gearbox specialist and including a new sump and switch gear cover the cost was £410.00. money well spent.
  15. Hi Peter, I think our's were the last of the "retro" Jaguars and having borrowed the MD's XJ portfolio the other day I'm confident that that the ethos of grace, space and pace is in safe hands. I'm lucky enough to have a company car (currently an Audi A4) and can't wait for it's lease to run out in November so that I can order an XE
  16. I have had the Goodyears on mine for about a year now and yes the wet and dry grip are good but the biggest bonus is they are so quiet
  17. Believe it or not ASDA now do some good prices on tyres! http://www.asdatyres.co.uk/235-50-17
  18. Hi Lance Try this http://satnavstore.com/index.php?route=product/product&manufacturer_id=12&product_id=56
  19. Hi Shaun, Please see the following website http://www.thelurch.com/lurching_zf_transmission.htm I think you'll find your answers there. Your car is fitted with the same 6 speed automatic gearbox as mine, am I right? If so you need the firmware upgraded to the latest version. I have attached Jaguars technical bulletin 307-14 which describes the fault and how to rectify it. I would strongly suggest taking it to a Jaguar specialist rather than a dealer. Nene Jags in Peterborough charged me £70.00 to do the work, Guy Salmon Jaguar wouldn't even believe their own bulletin and were convinced "it must be something more serious" surprise surprise! It's been fine for over a year and 16000 miles now. S307-14UK (1).pdf
  20. Hello Colin, I had exactly the same thing happen about a year ago, the three way solenoid valve went and took the climate control computer with it. If you're lucky it's the three way valve only. Take it to your local Jag specialist, in my ignorance I took it to my dealer who took 2 months to fix it and charged me £1300.00. You can get reconditioned control units online if it's required. Regards, Mike
  21. Hi Peter, Hope it helps, but of course by sods law you'll probably never need to do it again! And Kenny I'll almost guarantee it's the same one, it's certainly the one I had fitted to my Clubman circuit racer in the 80's
  22. http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorsport/battery-isolators-master-switches/autolec-fia-battery-master-cut-out-switch Not cheap but it's FIA approved so you know it's ok
  23. Fair point Trevor, well made. I have to say though, and I know you'll find this hard to believe, the Falklands are actually worse than Coventry or even Birmingham as with either of them you can actually just get in a car and go somewhere else.
  24. Hang on a second!! You ran away TO Coventry???????????? Seriously Trevor? What on earth were you smoking?
