  1. Charlie, Brake pads are not covered under warranty . " Brake linings. brake discs, and other friction related components when replacement is due to wear and tear , but they are covered against manufacturing defects for the duration of the vehicle warranty" . I have been in touch with the stealership, and they just said it wear and tear to the way it's been driven (usual cop out) . I have three years Jaguar warranty, but brake pads and other consumables such as wiper blades and the like are not covered . The best thing to do with stealerships is give the ******** a wide berth ! ATB, Trevor
  2. They really are a despicable bunch, I shall wait until I get the car back then go down there for a proper argument (it's a 140 mile round trip). Last time I went, only the salesman would speak to me after I gave them a load of stick over the Aston, and they don;t reply to my emilas. No doubt they will say it's my fault, and it's" wear and tear" , it is the blatant lies that annoy me . Cannot understand why everything has to be such a battle . But as I said, at least I have the satisfaction of knowing the car is being serviced properly from now on . ATB, Trevor
  3. Today I have taken my 2012 XKR in for a service, having been told it had been fully serviced when I bought it . I have just had a phone call from the owner of the Independent garage, and he stated in his opinion "The car had not been serviced since last October" (first service) . Not only that, but the rear brake pads are in a poor condition and will need replacing. As the car is under warranty genuine Jaguar parts must be used, and they are well over £200 . It is what I suspected with dealerships, they get these cars in, give them a quick check and wash, take your money and ship them out . It is not what you expect from a £50K car that was less than two years old when I bought it in May, and i've done less than £4K in it since then . So I will not be getting the car today, but will keep you updated, and give a full run down of the bill when I get the car back . It is expense I wasn't expecting (especially with the house repairs), but the one plus, is that I can now deal with a decent, honest independent garage . Never again will I deal with a dealership, bunch of con men ! ATB, Trevor (a tad aggrieved !)
  4. Peter, Good call, forgot to mention that . I would imagine it is battery related Colin, so nothing to worry about really. ATB, Trevor
  5. Colin, Don't worry about it, we are West Country, people just take it as read that we need help ! Just taking mine for a service (2nd service) at an independent garage . ATB, Trevor
  6. Colin, Try removing the positive battery cable for 10 mins to reset the computer . Or it could be a loose vacuum hose usually on the breather hose coming from the valve cover in front to the throttle body. ATB, Trevor
  7. Kenny, Getting the car serviced (second service) by an independent garage on Tuesday, will give you a run down of the costs. ATB, Trevor
  8. Kenny, Sounds like it's just the glass, which presses in Had a similar thing to you on the XJ Supersport, the dog's b******s mirror, blind spot, heated, moved in all direction, inidactors, the whole works . Stealership wanted £800 for the mirror unit and £175 an hour labour charges to fit it. Got one from David Manners in the end £410 for the whole lot, and fitted it similar to what you said . ATB, Trevor
  9. Margaret, Avoid main dealers like the plague, their prices are criminal. As Peter said, you should be able to pick one up on ebay, or even somewhere like David Manners. It is a very simple job to fit, if you can't do it yourself, any local mechanic should be able to. ATB, Trevor P.S. Just a thought, as you and Peter are both West Midlands (north) , he has a very good mobile mechanic he uses. It might be near you
  10. Adrian, Welcome, I agree with Charlie, the E type is a fantastic looking car, probably my favourite, with the Jensen Interceptor in second place. I would swap the wife for one tomorrow ; as a matter of fact, I did try it once, but got offered a second hand Skoda in Exchange. In all fairness, it does run quite well. ABT, Trevor
  11. peter, It hardly rains in the West Country ? ! have you been on the drink young man? it does nothing else, I have never seen rain like we get down here, and i've lived in Wales. It's more like the tide coming down, than ebbing and flowing . My house is only just drying out from last December, and I have to get the back done again, the people in Somerset think'we've had a drought in comparison to them . But at least it's clean warm rain, unlike Manchester ! The house is nearly finished Colin, but it has cost me an absolute fortune, but not to worry ATB, Trevor
  12. Charlie, Don't bother with all that clock nonsense . The wife is just having a glass of wine ATB, Trevor
  13. Colin , You jest, are you related to Peter ? Actually got the builders here at last to repair the last of the damage from the storms last December . ATB, Trevor
  14. Peter, You do jest, mostly we get rain down this way, this year has been freak weather ! but is still lovely down this way ATB, Trevor
  15. Colin, I think your Jag is excellent , and blue, what the wife would call "a proper Jag" . Also like your house, you're well posh down there in Cornwall compared to us Devonites . ATB, Trevor
  16. Charlie, The Bentley is just a tarted up VW . the XJ Supersport looked very similar, and she hated that, even though she chose it. But as I said, i've only had the XKR (which she chose) for five months . If ever I do change in the near future, which I doubt, it will either be another Jag, or the AMG GT ATB, Trevor P.S. The best way is not to do visitors at all
  17. Colin, Have found these, but don't know anything about them . http://www.service4service.co.uk/jaguar-service/cornwall/ ATB, Trevor
  18. Kenny, She p*****s me off big style (as do all women) !, she has chosen the last six cars, as soon as we have got it, she wants something different . Told her to stick to Steiff bears, clothes, expensive jewellery and perfume I suggested this . ATB, Trevor
  19. Kenny, Horses for courses indeed, whatever car I got she would want something different next week. She always wants what she hasn't got (all part of her illness) . Took 'er to the merc stealership and she didn't like any of them . She was on about Rolls and Bentley's, told her the old ones had character but cost a fortune to run (and too big for round here), and the newer ones are as ulgy as sin, don't even look like Rolls or Bentley s , and that continental in your link proves my point. Would rather the XJ Supersport over that, saw one at the stealership before I bought the XJ . Tis just a tarted up Volswagen . ATB, Trevor
  20. Kenny, She doesn't like the F Type at all, and neither do I much. Might change my mind and get the 5 litre version at some point, but much prefer the XKR, very little room in the F Type, I was all for getting one, but didn't like it when I saw it, and all they had at the time was the 3 litre ,and I didn't like that at all when I drove it, so opted for the XKR which is more practical and is faster Would have the AMG GT in preference, but we shall see, only had the XKR 5 months . The wife just has a thing about Mercedes . ATB, Trevor
  21. Kenny, I agree, visitors should fit into your plans, not yours into theirs. Or better still, don't do visitors ., I only very reluctantly let the wife in ! The wife has taken a fancy to this now. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201410128144182/sort/default/make/mercedes-benz/usedcars/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/body-type/coupe/fuel-type/petrol/page/1/keywords/amg/price-from/40000/radius/1501/price-to/60000/postcode/ex348lt?logcode=p ATB, Trevor
  22. Peter, Don't encourage her, she already want the Mercedes AMG GT when it's released next Spring . ATB, Trevor
  23. Kenny, Will be very surprised if the Aston makes it ! ATB, Trevor
  24. Kenny, Yes John Charles was brilliant, and made a huge impact abroad, which was no mean feat in those days. ATB, Trevor
  25. Kenny, Football was regarded as a poncy sport in the valleys when I was there, we played rugby Winter and Summer at school. I got quite good at it. At one time I was regarded as one of the best hookers in the country ; hopeless in the towns and cities, but not bad in the country. ATB, Trevor
