Owner of Jag for first time - XJ
knightsmith replied to scoobyslippers's topic in New Members Introductions
Charlie, Get the shopping delivered, HM's car might get 40MPG but it's still a Vauxhall ! You should get more MPG from you XK than that surely? I even get 31 MPG on a run, how come you get so little ? ATB, Trevor -

Scott, The 5.0 V8 are fantastic engines, both of mine have been supercharged, I average about 24 MPG with my XKR . ATB, Trevor -
Welcome Marc, The XF's are fab aren't they, is yours petrol? Feel free to ask any questions and join any any conversations , and how a bout a few pics for the gallery ? ATB, Trevor

Charlie, It is very easy to do , did it on mine earlier. You just have to be quick, as quick as a scouser down the post office with his Giro !! ATB, Trevor

David, Sounds like your key is knackered, don't you have a spare ? ATB, Trevor

Peter, This is all such a shame, I was brought up on Union, and my father took me as a young child to see Newport at Rodney Parade, and Wales at the Arms park ( I should be Welsh really, it was only by fluke I happened to be born in Liverpool ). I went on to play Union for Weybridge in Surrey (University Vandals in those days) . But one of the best days out was going to watch various rugby league finals at Wembley , I haven't any particular allegiance to any club, so usually went for the underdog . On another note, try this to get rid of your "Service Required " warning notice: NOTE: Steps 2 to 5 must be completedwithin 3 seconds for successful service mode resetting. • NOTE: Ignition key in the OFF position. Press and hold down the trip computer CLEAR/RESET button. 2. Continue to hold down the trip computer CLEAR/RESET button and turn the ignition switch to the ON position. 3. Release the trip computer CLEAR/RESET button. 4. Press and hold down the trip computer TRIP button located on the left-hand steering column multifunction switch. 5. Continue to hold down the trip computer TRIP button and press and hold down the trip computer CLEAR/RESET button. 6. Continue to hold down the trip computer TRIP and CLEAR/RESET buttons,RESETTING SERVICE MODE will display in the information and message centre if steps 2 to 5 are completed successfully. 7. After 10 seconds the information and message centre will then display SERVICE MODE RESET once the process is complete. 8. NOTE: If the information and message centre does NOT display SERVICE MODE RESET, steps 1 to 8 must be repeated. Release the trip computer TRIP and CLEAR/RESET buttons and turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.ATB, Trevor

Peter, Why are the vikings please? I get flummoxed with these new fangled names they call themselves these days, even the union side I follow Newport , are called Newport Dragons, or something like that (it hasn't improved them though. ATB, Trevor

Peter, Going back to what I was on about the other day over the stealership lying about the car being serviced . Took the car into my local reliable independent garage , and the owner said it doesn't look like it had been serviced . So i've booked it in for a service on Monday morning . I have also got rid of the "Service required" warning. This is how I did it, it evidently works on the XF's as well as the XK's, not sure about other models. This has to be done quickly, took me a few goes to get right, but it works: 1. Press and hold the rear fog lamp switch (while the ignition is off). 2. Press the start button without applying the foot brake. 3. Release the rear fog lamp switch. 4. Press and hold the trip computer cycle switch. 5. Press and hold the rear fog lamp switch. 6. Continue to hold the trip computer and rear fog lamp switches. 7. The message centre should display "resetting service mode" and then "service mode reset" 8. Release the trip computer and the fog lamp switches and turn the ignition off. ATB, Trevor

Peter, My cruise control doesn't work below 32MPH . also, it isn't any great sweat for the passenger to disable it if anything like that did happen . ATB, Trevor
-
Tom, I would say "pray" . In all seriousness I don't know, and it is a pretty big "If" . The chances of that happening are so remote it's hardly worth worrying about. ATB, Trevor
-
Tom, I only use mine on motorways and duel carriageways , big roads, also is there are average speed limits. My cruise control is adaptive, so brakes and accelerates when needed . It tends to accelerate rather gently and I've not had a problem yet . "Young lady" and Cruise control" should tell you something (said purely for effect, I don't mean it) . ATB, Trevor

Chris, It is up T' North no getting away from it , same as down here is the sticks or "Dime Land" as the tourists call it . ATB, Trevor (Mind that tractor!)

Charlie, It isn't obligatory to be like them . ATB, Trevor

Charlie, They are in Newquay and Ilfracombe . The decent scousers would have a fit if they saw this lot ! ATB, Trevor

Phil, I never get rid of music, have loads of CD's in the loft, along with LP's and cylinders . I'm glad you're educating the younger people . I bought the wife a Sansa Clip (also made by sanDisk,) think it was £30 , and will knock spots off any Ipod going for music reproduction . But credit where it's due, Apple have brilliant advertising, they have made their "clients" believe that they think differently . Have you noticed it's always an "Iphone" or an Ipad", or an "Ipod" , and not a "phone", "Tablet", or "MP3" player . I take my hat off to them. They were not impressed by my suggested new logo for them though . "The basis of good advertising is psychological manipulation" ATB, Trevor -
Earnest, Welcome to the club, i'm sure you will find all the answers you want on here . There are plenty of members from your neck of the woods (up T' North) on here, but they are quite tame. As Charlie said , 43000 isn't even run in yet, so you should have plenty of trouble free enjoyment . As for the "Old wrinkly " bit , Peter and I are the oldies around here , but you are welcome to join the "Grumpy old gits" club if you wish . ATB, Trevor

Peter, Have three DAB radios in the house never had a problem . Got a Roberts one with rechargeable batteries in it, works really well . Ipod's are just junk, you can get better sounding MP3 players for £30 tell your kids . ATB, Trevor -

Phill, I love DAB, listen to no other way for the radio. as for the USB stick I wish the jag system could cope with flac (lossless) which is the dog's bits . CD's, how quaint are you ? , not used those in years (even in Devon ) . Have you managed to get to grip with soulseek yet? if not, tell me what music you would like and i'll sort some for you . Live music is my favourite thing Got loads of classical concerts coming up in a week or so, then Joan Armatrading . ATB, Trevor -

Steve, Surely you're not using a stealership ? Just had more words with the one I bought the XKR from about lying to me. Regarding the radio, Am , how quaint ! . We don't have the best reception down here at the best of times, but it should work better than it does for you ATB, Trevor -

Phil, Have they moved on from Cassette ? , I'm shocked ! I take you point, perhaps I'm over fussy being an ex music researcher and music reviewer . And if the reproduction isn't of the highest quality I don't like it . If you ever meet the wife please don't mention my headphones or in ear monitors , she just cannot believe how much I spent on them (it isn't jewellery ), but they sound superb! . I don't know about Google , but where it comes to music reproduction, Apple are shocking . It isn't that they can't make something decent , but they don't need to , as some people will buy anything if it has "Apple" printed on it . She also persuaded me to get rid of my beloved Hi-Fi (showing my age now) and get a Bose Waveform. She is lucky I am still speaking to her ! ATB, Trevor -

Phil, The day Jag use Apple, will be the day I stop buying them . i don't have any problems at all with my ICE , I find it excellent. In the rear of the XJ Supersport I had, the rear entertainment was controlled by a screen a bit smaller than a tablet which could be taken out of the arm rest, this controlled the rear televisions and audio . I also have a DSLR camera , it is excellent, but I think at times they over complicate things . My main gripe is that after eight miles on Exmoor it tends to get rather heavy, so I seldom take it, which defeats the object . I do take a lot of pics at music venues though ATB, Trevor -
Charlie, The Gerries should improve the Aston a great deal ( they couldn't get any worse), they are going to use AMG engines and Mercedes electrics, I would think Mercedes will eventually buy them out . I like Cornwall as long as you steer clear of Newquay , it is like little Liverpool , and is even worse than Ilfracombe in that aspect . You will find it very hot, and might be phased by trees and grass and things . This (out next year) will slaughter the Astons (as the XKR and the new F Type have) http://www.romansinternational.com/news-article/365/mercedes-enter-new-territory-with-the-amg-gt ATB, Trevor

Charlie, If you have to worry about MPG "Don't have a car" is my motto . As for the flood prevention, no point as it seldom stops raining down here in the West Country, it's more like the tide coming down instead of in and out. As for the Bentley, thought of getting one, roads are too narrow down here though, and also don't like them anymore since the Germans have bought them out, just posh VW's now, all the Charisma has gone . ATB, Trevor

Charlie, Move down here, the next door neighbour ( or Mr Subtitle as I call him), might be a scrounging Manc , but at least he doesn't resort to buying French stuff . ATB, Trevor
