I would imagine it is self closing Graham, is there a button in the top right hand corner of the boot lid ? Found this quote about the XF range " Usefully all models get power closing on the boot so you don't have to slam it shut. Don't mistake this for an electric boot - you still have to close it by hand, but it means you can just gently shut it and it will electrically pull the boot down into the lock position." ATB, Trevor

Welcome Graham, The XF-R looks fab ( same colour as my XJ Supersport) . Hope you enjoy the forum, they 're a friendly bunch. and will tell you about meets and stuff. ATB, Trevor ( The Southern Member)

George, Just out of interest try another battery, a lot of these strange electrical happenings seem to be related to a poor or failing battery . TB, Trevor

Adrain, I think Josh is correct, thinking back I had my spare set replaced under warranty, thery said they couldn't just send a new key through the post as they needed the vehicle as well to programme the key to, which was a 140 mile round trip . So unless anyone knows of a different way I think you will have to do what Josh suggests . ATB, Trev

Michael, Did the same thing as you when I drove past an Aston Martin stealership ( huge mistake). In recent years i've had two new BMW's , two nearly new Aston martins, and now this XJ Superport . The XJ is the best car I have ever owned, as mentioned elsewhere on this site, i've even turned down a new Merc at discount as I like the Jag so much ATB, Trevor (old but happy, and safely returned from the north)

Welcome Paul, Got the offer of a new Merc at discount (my friend works at a Merc stealership ) I said " No thanks, but will bear it in mind for the future, but at the moment i'm more than happy with the Jaaaag" ATB, Trevor (safely back from my trip up north)

Wayne, Welcome, why not try a MP3 transmitter? , just tune it in to a certain frequency on your radio , and you can play your Ipod/MP3 player and phone through the car's radio system. Used one in an old Mondeo I had and it worked fine. This is the sort of thing I mean, but other types are available, and cheaper, even Tesco sell them. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-Car-Tunecast-Universal-Transmitter/dp/B002S8AFE8/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1397988662&sr=8-6&keywords=mp3+transmitter ATB, Trevor

Gordon, Peter will be along in a minute he has a Jag that runs on the devil's fuel, but i would think something similar to this would be fine. http://www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/jaguar-x-type-diesel-engine-oil ATB, Trevor

Peter, I must disagree, north is anywhere above the Thames or M25, and when the boundaries are redrawn later in the year it will be anything north of the Avon . Hammonds are organs . ATB, Trevor

Rick, It does sound like a belt of some description, can to just turn the radio up for a couple of minutes ? Found this link, don't know if it's any help, but there are various answers given. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyeu2JlY9pg ATB, Trevor

Peter, I do that in fog also. When I had the BMW's I turned the day running light setting off . All set for my trip up North tomorrow, shall I bring some veg and salad stuff ? ATB, Trevor
-
I agree with Paul. the lights on my XJ also come on when they're needed automatically, as do the wipers . ATB, Trevor

Adrian, Sounds like the key is duff. Have a look at these Ebay links, perhaps they may be of help, I hope you get things sorted shortly: ATB, Trevor http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=jaguar+s+type+key+programming&_nkwusc=jaguar+s+type+key+reprogramming&_rdc=1

Welcome Craig, hope you enjoy the forum ATB, Trevor

Kevin, Don't worry about the money, as they say, "There aren't any pockets in shrouds" Take a friendly mechanic with you in return for a few beers, to give any car a look over . Peter and myself are old, but worth every penny ........... Oh wait a minute ! ATB, Trevor
-
Welcome Kevin, If you stay away from the stealerships and try the garage Peter recommended, the servicing shouldn't be too bad . The XK is fab, just wish I'd bought one instead of the Aston Martin! There is just something special about having a Jaaaaaag ! ATB, Trevor (representing the south)

Gary, The F Type Coupe is class, and faster than a scouser down the post office with his giro ! ATB, Trevor

Got the illuminated doors sills on mine, in blue, they are cool! Your car should have the Meridan sound system, which is excellent. Don't get an Aston ! vastly overated, overpriced, not all that fast, the Jag is ten time better, honestly ( and faster)! It was meant to be my dream car, but what a let down Toying with the idea of getting the F Type Coupe next year, but the wife reckons it's too small . But it is a brillaint car. The "R" version has the same 5lt supercharged engine as mine, and the top of the range one is less than half the price of the Aston Vanquish, and miles better . ATB, Trevor
-
Welcome to the forum Looks cracking Gary, I wanted the XF R-S , but the wife wanted the XJ Supersport ( because it had 3 TV's in it) The XF's are really good cars, I was lent one when my Aston DB9 was in the garage, I made my mind up my next car would be a Jag, and it is . What toys have you got on it? I had to have a decent sound system, (Bowers and Wilkins 1200 watt 20 speaker jobbie), as I used to be a music researcher, and good sound in the car is more essential than the wife. It will be June sooner than you think ! ATB, Trevor

We don't have any trains here anyway. Most people seem to think that their cars run better from fuel bought locally, so perhaos there is something in it . Cheering on for Oxford in the boat race as my daughter used to cox a few of the eights there, and it's also my favourite Northern town ATB, trevor

Peter. Mine is one of those hands free jobbies , but I have never phoned from the car , just received the odd call from the wife to mither ( taking northern lessons for my trip a week Thursday) from a distance, mobile phones are my pet hate, especially Iphones. I have been told by various mechanics not to use supermarket fuel as it is inferior, so for the sake of a few pence , I don't ; the nearest place that does it is 17 miles away anyhow . which would defeat the object . I don't know if they were just refering to petrol, or the devil's fuel also . Not been on a train for thirty years , apart from one of those trendy smelly rattly steam jobs, or a bus for fifteen . ATB, Trevor
