We will try and help you however we can Jessica, only got a Jag for the first time myself a few weeks ago, they are wonderful ! Didn't realise California was so different , my daughter lives in San Francisco, but feel free to pop round for a cup of tea xx Old Peter and myself (also old) just use our Jags at weekend. This is the car we share during the week , it isn't a wind up, honest ! ATB, Trevor x

Keith , Really don't know much about them , but they do seem to get good reviews form various people , whilst others where indifferent , couldn't find any negative feedback about them so it might be worth a spin. This review seems to be the most balanced: " Some chips or remaps just allow for more fuelling and adjust the fuel/air mixture thresholds to increase the power. They'll often over fuel the car and the result is lots of smoke - common problem with bolt on power modules or smoke boxes as they are sometimes called. They'll claim better mpg because you can access more power/torque and don't need to rev the car so much and can hold a higher gear longer. They often don't update the car's logging data so the computer info on mpg doesn't see the extra fuel being burned so the only real test is to measure at the pumps brim to brim. The more developed remaps adjust and recalibrate a much wider range of ECU values and can have a more positive effect on the economy as well as more power and smoother power delivery. Four of my last five cars, 3 of them diesels have been remapped and all have been successful in that the cars power has increased and I had no problems with anything failing. Only one of them turned out to genuinely improve economy whereas the others it dropped but that was probably down to using the extra power. Worth checking out other people's views of the chip you're considering on owner forums and see what their experiences of mpg and reliability are." Do you have a tame mechanic you could take advice from? ATB, Trevor

"Almost 80 and possibly the last car I will own" ? This one has your name on it, there are only two in the country, and the only person who has shown any interest in this one is me, it has been reduced by £6K already . I reckon you would look good cruisin' round up North in it http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201309118727572/sort/default/usedcars/radius/1500/make/jaguar/keywords/rs/page/1/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/model/xf/postcode/ex348lt/advert-type/standard-listing?logcode=ucnnp ATB, Trevor

It does seem cheap, but you can pick up really good second hand Jags cheap , haven't got got a friendly mechanic you could pay a few bob to to give it the "once over" ? . Or why not pay the AA to do a vehicle inspection for you, it is about £150 for non members, then you would know what you're getting. https://www.theaa.com/vehicle-inspections/ ATB, Trevor

Just a personal thing, but I think dealerships just take people for a ride compared to independent garages . Their hourly is usually very high and an independent garage can get you Genuine jaguar parts for far less than the dealerships . An example; I recently damaged my wing mirror (someone left their bin in the road) , everything still works perfectly apart from the mirror not closing in when I lock the car . For a new mirror the dealership quoted £700 (without fitting), the exact same mirror online £305, still didn't bother though. ATB, Trevor

Same thing happened to me when I got the XJ Supersport about six weeks ago , but as it was still under warranty the stealership fixed it , said it was the mini motherboard or something . Kingspeed : I'm also going to use an independent garage to get the Jag serviced, they are a lot cheaper than the franchise garages , and providing they use genuine Jaguar parts and follow the proper guidelines the warranty will not be affected. We have a list of independent garages recommended by the members on one of the forums. ATB, Trevor

Aston Martin Vanquish Volante
knightsmith replied to gary0006's topic in Chit Chat - Non Jaguar Related
I am flabbergasted at the amount of attention the car has got since I bought it , in fairness the bride and her father looked fantastic having the doors opened at the church by Royal Marines and being helped from the car . The girl in question had been let down on the wedding car, she saw the my car by chance as she was driving past the house and sent her husband to be to knock on my door and ask if I could do the honours . They made a very nice donation to The Childrens' Hospice South West , so good luck to them I say. ATB, Trevor -

Had two Astons in the past year, both a heap of junk. the Jag will knock spots off them. Have you seen the F type Coupe ? it is better than the Vanquish in every way, and half the price . Really wish I had opted for an XK now instead of the Aston DB 9's , would have saved me a fortune and got me a better car. ATB, Trevor -

This is true Trevor, the amount of positive comments i've had since the supersport have been unbelievable far more than when I had the Aston Martin . I shall post a pic of the car with the ribbons on it . ATB, Trevor -

Would still be a lot easier if you could use the emergency key to open the boot though. But this is nitpicking . Had a young lady knock on the door yesterday asking if I could possibly drive her to church to get married , she thinks the XJ Superport is fantastic ! ATB, Trevor -

John, being an old bugger my insurance is pretty cheap . it average about 23mpg, 20mpg around town, and about 32mpg on a run, compared to the Aston I find it quite economical . As I don't drink or smoke anymore, due to a heart attack I can use the money saved towards motoring . The 5.0 litre XF sounded fab, I was offered a XFR-S , they wanted my mangled Aston plus another £13K, as I had spent a fortune at the same garage over the past year I declined, and they got me the XJ, which I really like, This is the one I ws offfered: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201309118727572/sort/default/make/JAGUAR/model/XF/postcode/ex348lt/radius/1501/keywords/r/price-to/75000/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/fuel-type/petrol/price-from/50000/advert-type/featured-listing/dealer/719982/usedcars?logcode=flp

It is fab John, the woman who mangled my Aston (while it was in for a service) did me a huge favour . The XJ was the Jag directors car, not only is it faster than the Aston, it has a 1200 watt Bowers and Wilkins 20 speaker sound system ( i'm en ex music researcher and a huge music buff) , but it has more flat sceen TV's than the local council estate . I'm really impressed with it, even though you do need planning permission to park it. ATB, Trevor
