Ian, Don't know the answer i'm afraid . Bowers and Wilkins are highly regarded . Your car cannot have been long out of warranty, it might be worth giving the dealership a ring as Bowers and Wilkins might have their own warranty on the audio system . It might be worth getting in touch with them also . ATB, Trevor

Charlie, No, they all go into limp mode, My BMW did when the fuel pump was failing, it was six weeks old at the time Peter, Don't use wood dust either then . ATB, Trevor

Peter, It is a proven fact that diesel fumes are carcinogenic . Ride behind a diesel vehicle in a convertible and you will soon realise how bad they are . ATB, Trevor
-
Peter, In all fairness, I forgot to add, that the vibrations is a factor as well with lorry and coach drivers . But diesel is very bad for you, but each to their own . I fear it is just going to be another stick for government to use . ATB, Trevor
-
Peter, That just is not true . Diesel fumes are lethal , this is why there is a higher death rate from cancer in lorry and coach drivers . http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-18415532 http://uk.reuters.com/article/2012/06/12/us-cancer-diesel-who-idUSBRE85B0ZN20120612 But the point i was making is that after years of persuading people it was a cheaper driving option, the very same people are going to be penalised . Road tax should be put on fuel anyway, it is the fairest way . ATB, Trevor

Charlie, Although my thoughts on diesel fuel are well known (just google world health organisation and diesel fuel) , what I find out of order is that governments have been promoting diesel vehicles as a cheaper alternative to the normal petrol vehicles for years . I few years ago diesel was indeed a cheap alternative, but now it is dearer than petrol, and the gap is widening , and it is rapidly becoming an expensive option . The worrying thing is that although people are finally realising just how unhealthy diesel fuel is, diesel owners will be made a scapegoat as an excuse for government to raise money. There is talk of levying extra congestion charges for diesel users, and even suggestions that they shouldn't be allowed to drive past schools (that really was a suggestion on the radio yesterday) and I fear this could be the tip of the iceberg . In the future if you are driving to the hospital in your diesel vehicle (paying extra congestion charges in the process), smoking a !Removed!, a bit overweight, for an operation, you will arrive skint, and be turned down . Just off to hug a tree (in my V8) ATB, Trevor

restricted performance (amber engine display)
knightsmith replied to steve from henley's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
Steve, Do you know someone who has a OBD11 code reader , a friendly local mechanic for instance ? Have been having a look round and a lot of people with the same problem, and it has been the Master Air Flow Sensor that has been the problem. Can happen for a number of reasons, sometimes a sensor fault confusing the engine ECU, sometime for faults with the electronic actuators on the turbos. Only a full diag will tell. If the worst comes to the worst you can buy these code readers quite cheaply on ebay . But whatever you do don't let the dealership get their hands on it ! Peter has a S type similar to yours and can maybe come up with some suggestions, he will be along shortly . He also lives in the Midlands and can probably suggest somewhere local to you that can look into the problem . I would be very surprised if it was one of the turbos, I hope not anyhow. ATB, Trevor -
Trevor, I hope everything will be ok ATB, Trevor

Trevor, Latest update on my XKR, they can't find a fault but said their might be a possible fault and want to replace the part . Jaguar haven't got the part, and it is going to take them at least two weeks to get it, so being realistic it isn't going to be fixed this year, thank God it's a British car (sarcasm). I am totally fed up with it, and wishes I'd never bought it . ATB, Trevor (the grey haired one)

Trevor, Try this: 1 . Insert key into ignition barrel. 2 . Press and hold the Reset switch (located on the Trip Computer Switchpack). 3 . NOTE: The reset switch has to be released immediately after the ignition is switched 'ON'. This is critical to enable the rest of the procedure. Turn the key to Ignition position II and at the point of entering Ignition position II (i.e when a click is heard), instantaneously release the Reset switch. 4 . Wait one second. 5 . Press and hold the Trip switch (located on the end of the left-hand side stalk). 6 . Wait one second. 7 . Press and hold the Reset switch (whilst still holding the Trip switch). 8 . The cluster should display (within three seconds) the warning message 'RESETTING SERVICE MODE'. 9 . Keep both buttons pressed until the warning message changes to 'SERVICE MODE RESET' (after ten seconds). 10 . Once the message is displayed the buttons may be released sequence is now complete. 11 . If a Service Required message was displayed prior to the reset sequence, cycle the ignition to 'Off' and then back to Ignition position II and check that the message is no longer displayed. Ken, It must be something to do with Trevors. Mine is in the garage with a differential problem (just what you expect from a £50k car!) . But on the plus side it is under warranty . Have just bought a C63 AMG, hope I have more luck with that . ATB, Trevor (The old one)

James, Well done ! . Now all you need is some decent music, give me a shout if you need any . ATB, Trevor
-
Ken, Just bought a C63 AMG Edition 125 . The Aston's were rubbish, but the Jags have been the only cars i've owned which I've had to call out the breakdown service for , three times in the last year. Really liked the Jags, but Jaguar as a company leave a lot to be desired, hence the change . ATB, Trevor

Charlie, I've always found the safest way is not to bang into things . AB, Trevor
-
Charlie, I would take the Ford Focus over it, I would take anything . Got to use it shortly to go shopping, then it will be stuck outside my house until I take it back. ATB, Trevor
-
Charlie, I can honestly say it is the biggest heap of Junk i've ever driven. It is like travelling inside a Tupperwear container there is so much plastic I've had it since Thursday and have not driven it since. I will use it tomorrow when I do a quick bit of shopping early doors, and the next time I use it , will be to take it back. I wouldn't have one if it was given to me . The only reason I had it was because the breakdown waller didn't phone the stealership to tell them I was coming , so they had to get anything from Enterprise . When the girl turned up with it I was flabbergasted , and it's devil's fuel ! ATB, Trevor
-
Charlie, Made just down the road from me . But I don't drink or smoke since I flat lined . Lost four stone though ! ATB, Trevor
-
Peter, The truth is (apart from the XKR being in the stealership ). Tis the time of year when the wife becomes unwell ( 32nd year on the trot), all the signs are there with unusual behavior, she made me a cup of tea, cleaned the bathroom washbasin, and bought a Mercedes . I kid ye not ! ATB, Trevor
-
Peter, The other Peter will be along shortly, i'm sure he will be able to put you right as he has an S type, but I think it is here . ATBG, Trevor
-
Charlie, I'm still watching the Never Ending Story . ATB, Trevor
-
Peter, The Sat nav on the XKR was excellent, and even gave you a choice of three different routes, never had a problem with it , it must be a Scottish thing. ATB, Trevor
-
Charlie, It used to be great in the 60's . My uncle managed a theatre there,so I got in everywhere for nothing and met all the stars. I think it has gone rather down market now, but i've not been there for years so can't comment . ATB, Trevor
-
Charlie, In all fairness I can't understand why anyone would have trouble using it, unless yours was the Noah's Ark version. What is more worrying is you wanting to go to Blackpool! ( I have relatives there ). If you must venture to civilisation, there are better places, Lancaster being one of them . I have told Cornwall that you might be down later in the year, and they said they would make sure it's open . ATB, Trevor
