  1. Hi Gary, I sometimes used to get P0402 and the amber engine light coming up. I use an additive - currently a Millers Product which Opie Oils sell and it seems to work. Opie Oils are trading members of the JOC. Regards, Peter.
  2. Welcome to the club, Garry. The s type is a great car, a real driver's car that will also take passengers in style. Look for one with a good service history and the highest spec possible and I am certain you will enjoy it. Regards, Peter.
  3. Welcome to the club, Peter. I am not a mechanic and those with more skills than I will be able to help. But I have had a bit of experience of wheel wobble, and also not putting wheels back on properly. It could be simply that the tyres might have been damaged when the whees were not put on correctly. It could be a cheap fix and worth checking. Regards, Peter.
  4. Hi Alan, The colour of exhaust smoke does indicate a particular problem. Black smoke is most likely to be burning more fuel than you should, and white smoke is usually a coolant problem, as David has quite rightly said. Regards, Peter.
  5. Welcome to the Club, Dean. Your experience will be invaluable, and I hope the experience of many of our members will also be helpful to you. I hope you enjoy the club. Regards, Peter.
  6. Hi Tony, and Welcome to the club. My s type Sat Nav has the facility to put in a full address or part address even without the post code. I think an XF owner will be able to advise. I do think it strange that Jaguar have moved backwards. In Ireland there are precious few post codes - in most areas none at all, and because of that it is possible that there could be a fault with yours. Regards, Peter,
  7. I soften see an S Type in my locality, and it is noticeable for have its headlight cover completely badly in need of a clean. The fact that the state of them is noticeable made me have a good look at mine, which although they looked OK, still got a good clean. It is possibly the headlamp covers that nee attention. Peter.
  8. I don't do much night driving, and for what I do I find the headlamps quite adequate. I do miss the front foglamps, though. They were discontinued on the 07 model
  9. Hi Robin, I too had company cars for 30 years, the last one being a Toyota Avensis which I hated. SWMBO who also worked for a few years also had various cars used to get to work and as shopping trolleys preferred the Rover Sterling I bought after I retired, which was why her XR3i went --- I found it a great little car. I bought the Rover when it was 8 months old for £12,500 - as new but which had cost £27k when new. You will find the S Type you want if you are patiently looking around. Regards, Peter.
  10. Hi Robin, and welcome to the club. Like you, I have admired the s type for some years, and although I don't do more than 7,000 miles a year I went for the 2.7 diesel, which in 3 and half years has been very reliable. It is our only car, as SWMBO parted with her Red XR3i convertible 10 years ago saying that we no longer needed 2 cars. I don't do many long journeys, and although I was told that the DPF and the EGR valves could cause a problem, neither have ever bothered me. The Petrol engined cars have very good engines, and are most reliable. The s type can suffer with rust in the sills, so a check behind the plastic covers is worthwhile. Regards, Peter.
  11. Hi Chris, I used to have a 2.5 X type SE and the parts that you need are quite common across the range. David has pointed you in the right direction. I have used BreakerYard, but there are lots of other yards if you google around. Regards, Peter.
  12. Hi Richard and welcome to the club. That mpg you have been told seems quite reasonable, although it is possible you could get better on a long run. I use Shell V Power in my s type, which has the 2.7 litre V6 twin turbo diesel and couple of weeks ago got 49.2 mpg driving down to Lyme Regis, with 42 mpg for the round trip including some driving found the lanes in Dorset. I hope you enjoy your car as well as the club. Regards, Peter.
  13. Welcome to the Club, Jack. The s type makes a very good wedding car -- my niece used mine for her wedding three years ago. I hope you enjoy the club and also get your XJ Regards, Peter.
  14. Welcome to the club, Chris. I fell in love with Jaguars in 1964 when a friend was restoring a Mk1. Sadly, empty pockets and 30 years of company cars saw me not getting my first Jaguar till 5 years ago. Great cars and a dream to drive. Regards, Peter.
  15. Hi Dave, I might be worth putting son insulation tape in different colours to strengthen and stop any chafing, Peter.
  16. Hi Peter, Unfortunately no update. Pity! Peter.
  17. Hi Quentin, I would check out a suitable additive for your car until you find out for certain. Peter.
  18. Welcome to the club, Rowland. The club is a nice place to be, and your experience with the X Type will be much valued. Jaguars are nice cars and your wife must enjoy the experience -- mine does and thinks my S Type is the best car we have ever had in the nearly 50 years we have been married! Regards, Peter.
  19. Welcome to the club, Jonathan. My son has a similar car to yours, on a 06 plate but only just run in with 100,000 miles on the clock. My s type allows me to get into and out of the car quite easily and that was one of the criteria when buying it. Regards, Peter.
  20. Hi Quentin, and welcome to the club. Both my son and my late brother-in-law had problems with older cars which were built in the days when leaded petrol was the common anti-knock reason for existence. However, some older cars were converted to used what is now standard fuel. I would be inclined to check whether the carburettor has been converted to use unleaded fuel. Regards, Peter.
  21. My x type 2.5AWD had 17" wheels and a nice comfortable ride they gave.
  22. Hi Alan and well one to the club. Th S type is great car to drive, and looked after well can be a real head turner. I think you will enjoy your Jaguar, and feel free to ask any questions. Regards, Peter.
  23. Hi William, I think that the EML is indicating that it is something to do with the battery. I wonder if the jump start took too much out of the battery? Maybe a spell on a battery charger for an hour would so the trick? Regards, Peter.
  24. Welcome to the club, Neil. Nice car, economical and comfortable. I hope you enjoy the club, too! Regards, Peter.
  25. RESULT! Well done, Richard.
