  1. Welcome to the Club, Ben. You certainly like Jaguars --- and rightly so! Your experience will be valued. Regards, Peter.
  2. Welcome to the club, Daniel. I don't know about the vagaries of the XF SatNav, but the disc in my s type covers Western Europe, and there is the facility to change countries. When I went to Ireland last year, I changed the map before getting off the ferry and had no problem, but then only one country. But if you have a separate disc for each country, the logic is to plan a route to the best through road to your destination. XF owners could assist here. Regards, Peter. P.S. I used to cycle around Europe before the SavNav was invented and managed to get there and back!
  3. Hi Martin, Generally they don't, but I guess that if you ask nicely, or even telephone them and explain what you want, it is possible that they will contact the person and maybe even pass on your telephone number. If you don't ask you will never get an answer. It is always worth trying. Regards, Peter.
  4. Welcome to the club, Martin. A letter to the DVLA might help. Good Luck Peter.
  5. Welcome to the club, Richard. Like Joe, I first thought the battery was on the way out, and if the car won't turn over but the starter motor just clicks, it is certainly the motor not responding. Joe has given you the answer. The Austin/Morris mini had the same problem, and the starter motor usually needed a little tap with a hammer to make it work. Regards, Peter.
  6. Welcome to the club, Tim. The value of a warranty is more than just some peace of mind. The 2.0 litre D in the X type is a rather good engine and has stood the test of time. You will enjoy the comfort and the fact that your visits to fill up the tank will be fewer. Regards, Peter.
  7. Hi Gary, "Grace, Pace and Space" - Sir William Lyons - fits the bill perfectly. Regards, Peter. P.S. -- I have done a little bit of editing.
  8. Welcome to the Club, Andy. Some lousy drivers in Walsall! Stories like that are unique, but you were right in getting the car repaired to your satisfaction, as you don't get bargains like that too often. Regards, Peter
  9. Hi Jim, Some people do not follow the obvious route -- Scissors generally do not need brains. It could be worth ringing the David Manners Group who could assist you. Just check out their Website, and they have a good catalogue. They are based in Halesowen just off the M5 - exit 2/3. Regards, Peter.
  10. Hi Ann and welcome to the club. I have not come across that in my s type [fingers crossed]. As far as I can gather you appear to have done some of the homework yourself, and you could possibly look at getting a second hand unit --- there was a member who is breaking an s type who might be worth contacting. I will check and put the post on when I find it. Regards, Peter. P.S.. Found it. Contact gavinparker1983 who is breaking a 2003 S type.
  11. Hi Iain, and welcome to the club. Is the EGR valve clogged up? Or even sticky? That can be cured by using a can of Wynns EGR Cleaner at under a tenner. If the valve is totally broken, perhaps and XF owner wth the same model, or indeed, an X type owner with the 2.2 diesel could assist. Let us know how you go. Regards, Peter.
  12. In 1963 I used to put 100 Octane petrol into My 250cc Honda Dream, which at 5/8 a gallon was 8d dearer than ordinary 4 star. It went very nicely, and no speed limit in those days -- the Preston by pass [now M6] was a great testing area! Peter.
  13. Hi Chris, While diesel engines are designed to operate on more or less any diesel fuel that is available at petrol stations, the premium diesel fuel has certain additives that the fuel suppliers put in to improve performance. I always use Shell V power as there is a Shell petrol station 500 yards away but there are other premium brands available. The s type 2.7 diesel is a well designed performance engine and is faster than a 1950's Ferrari which took 8.2 seconds to reach 60 mph, and it should have performance fuel. Regards, Peter.
  14. Hi Chris, I had my s type terra cleaned two years ago and it really did make a difference both in performance and economy. The process is shown on a Video from Wheeler Deelers, and it is very beneficial for diesel engines. There are certain other products that are good for preventative maintenance, such as Diesel Magic, and Wynns DPF cleaner inter alia. Regards, Peter.
  15. Hi Chris, I would guess that the miles you do on the A38 are generally not at a steady speed -- at peak times the A38 can be a tad frustrating in that you can't really use cruise control. I get slightly less from trips round the town and to Lichfield and back in the week. To get a good mpg you need a long steady run. I would be happy with an mpg between 30 and 35 on your journeys in the week. Regards, Peter.
  16. Hi Adam, Your car is the pre facelift model, so it is hard to compare with my 07 SE model. But your car has certain tell tale extras fitted - folding mirrors, headlamp screen wash, and full leather seats, plus electric seat adjustment, and the wood/leather steering wheel. While some of these are factory fitted options, I would suggest that together they are all pointing toward the fact that your car is an SE. Regards, Peter.
  17. Welcome to the Club, Steve. You have a nice and very useful car -- I was picked up in one whenI was collecting my s type. Enjoy Regards, Peter.
  18. I am inclined to agree with you Gavin. That is severe rust. I had a Triumph Herald with similar severe problems and though I loved the car I took off every bit I could including windscreens and it finished up on the local tip [with permission from the council]. The bits sold very well! Peter.
  19. I usually try to do a longish journey every month or less -- National Trust property visits etc -- which kicks up the average somewhat and I normally get about 35 mpg around the town + a few longer journeys. What I am pleased with is the MPG on the very long drives - Lake district etc, and with the A38 and M6/M5 only 15 minutes away I do not get many hold ups in town traffic.
  20. Hi Gary, I used the trip computer, but several years ago I did a brim to brim check to confirm the MPG and found it quite accurate. Regards, Peter.
  21. We had a great time in Dorset, Malc. I only use Shell V Power, other than times there is no Shell Station about. I am not known for hanging about either, and so I was rather pleased with the MPG. With the extra Shell points you can get, it comes in not much different in cost from the standard fuel. A premium engine like premium fuel. Regards, Peter.
  22. We have just got back from a week in Dorset. On the way down, and including some local driving, my s type 2.7 D returned 49.2 miles to the gallon using Shell premium Diesel. On the return. the car returned 40.5 mpg using standard ESSO, but a few more [about 20] local miles. There some roadworks on the M5 in both directions and possibly more on the return journey, but I am rather pleased with the fuel consumption.
  23. Welcome to the Club, Michele. Nice sunny day here and my car looks nice enough to drive to the Dorset seaside. I will look for your other post, and hope you enjoy the club. Regards, Peter.
  24. Welcome to the Club, Jim. The club is composed of members from all parts of the UK, Ireland, mainland Europe, the USA and Australia -- and quite a few other countries, The common interest is their love for Jaguar cars. I hope you enjoy both the Club and your Jaguar. Regards, Peter.
  25. Welcome to the Club, Phil. Jaguars are nice cars, and your model is a great workhorse, as it were, and very economical. I hope you will enjoy the Club, too. Regards, Peter.
