  1. Welcome to the Club, Julian. Sharing experiences is what the club is about. And thanks for the photographs -- very helpful. Regards, Peter.
  2. Hi Mally, Just a quickie -- if you can get the car up on a ramp you could possibly be able to fit lights without taking off the bumper. Will post tomorrow. Regards, Peter.
  3. Hi Craig, The car seems to have been used sparingly and the SE is a well appointed car. I paid £7500 for a 2.5AWD SE 5 years ago on an 05 plate and my son paid £3,300 6 months ago for an 06 2.0D spore with 90k on the clock. While the price is on the higher side, the spec and the mileage make up for it. If the car is in good condition and the dealer gives a good warranty I would be inclined to go with it. Regards, Peter.
  4. On a hot day, Budweiser, but otherwise Doombar! But only late in the day when the car will no longer be used! Peter.
  5. I saw that James, and now that you have indicated the year, I am sure there will be members who will come up with some advice. Personally, I am an S type fan, and they are also worth looking at for a daily drive. Regards, Peter.
  6. I got into my car earlier this evening at Birmingham International Railway Station car park, switched on the 'phone button and was informed that a phone was not fitted on this car. Now I have used the phone for 3 years [judiciously when static or when a passenger has been there to use it] without any problems. While thinking how to solve the issue, I remembered something I read a few years ago. Some one had the same problem and what he did was switch off the ignition when he got home, go inside, have a can of beer, then go back out, switch on the ignition and lo and behold, it worked again! I have not lost any of my memory, but it can still be done without the beer! This may be useful to someone! Regards Peter.
  7. Hi Paul, You have had some good answers from some very knowledgeable members. It does look as if you have got a good deal and a fair price for as Sovereign with all the bells and whistles. My son bought a Jaguar Sport 2.0D estate on an 06 plate last year with 90k on the clock. The car is fairly basic and was not a bad buy at £3500 but a 2.2 engine with Sovereign spec and a low mileage is certainly worth the extra money.. I hope you enjoy both the Club and your Jaguar. Regards, Peter.
  8. Welcome to the club, James. Are you after a project, or are you looking for a very nice car that you can cherish? There are some good XJs out there that just need some TLC. Meanwhile enjoy the search and feel free to ask any questions at all. Regards, Peter.
  9. Hi Jonathan, and welcome to the club. I think the tail pipes can be replaced. I used to have a Rover Sterling and they could on that. I have never need to replace them on Jaguars, though. Try a company called Adamesh. In the meantime, enjoy your XKR and I hope the sun shines for you. Regards, Peter.
  10. Hi Steve, I think there are dash cams that do record sound. You will need to hard wire it in so that it works all the time, though. Regards, Peter.
  11. HI Jason, Frank and Steve are absolutely correct. And a cheap battery is no good on Jaguars at all. We had a member some years ago who had bought a 3 litre s type and the electrics stopped working, even though the car would start. The battery that was new would not have powered a 1960 mini. The battery on my V6 s type 2.7D is a Varta 95ah fitted by Jaguar. You will need a battery with at least 95ah for a V8. Regards, Peter.
  12. Hi Steve, I think that there is some element of possible jealousy or that there is a professional complainer around. It is very hard to locate an alarm when there are several places it could come from. Regards, Peter.
  13. Yes, David. Some members do come back and thank you for the advice, but some forget that when a solution/s is put forward, there are a lot of interested members who would like to see if it worked. Sharing experiences is what the club is about. Regards, Peter.
  14. Welcome to the Club, Adam. Assuming that all the other windows as OK, it could be worth checking the switch on the passenger door. It will probably be worth taking the door card off and seeing if any of the mechanism is faulty. Regards, Peter.
  15. Checked Steve, The second press activates the alarm. Now for a cold Bud in the garden. Peter.
  16. Why is it going off, Steve? I had the same problem with a Montego ages ago. If it was parked in the road and a 'bus went past the alarm went off. I think the first press locks the car and the second press activated the alarm -- I will check that though, and if you don't hear from me I am either on my second cold Bud in the garden or I am right! Peter.
  17. Result, Iain. That is what I do, and the diesel engine does respond. I keep a fuel cleansing additive in the boot to save going to Halfords every few months. Peter.
  18. Hi Mally, All well with you? Fog lights were not fitted on the 2007 SE although there is a member with a 2007 XS which does have them and there are some recent posts about them. Being as they are on the XS I would give a strong guess that the other models will have the wiring. You will have to take the bumper off to find out, though. Regards, Peter.
  19. HI Darren, and Welcome to the Club. I have come across diesel engines with around 200k on the clock and still going. A lot depends on the treatment the engine has had, and a good service history is a pointer. The 2.2 diesel is still being used by Jaguar in the XF so it shows the respect which exists for the engine. Those X Type owners who have that particular model will be along to give you their experiences. Regards, Peter.
  20. Welcome to the Club, David. The X type was once described by a motoring journalist as "quite nippy" which is not how I would describe a Jaguar. But having said that, when I first drove my X type [my first Jaguar] a 2.5 AWD SE I was quite surprised at its roadholding and its acceleration. You have a nice car there, and not an old man's car --- driving my 2.7D s type keeps me young! Meanwhile, enjoy your Jaguar and the club. Here is a picture of my big cat and the smaller one from across the road. Regards, Peter.
  21. Hi David, I found a way to repair it but it involves dismantling it. The problem is that it looks impossible to get the ends off --- I tried yesterday and neither will budge. I found one in a breakers yard online, but the reviews of that particular yard were not very promising. There are a couple I know locally and I will pay them a visit to se what they have. With thanks, Peter.
  22. Welcome to the Club, Darren. I do believe that the S Type is a future classic and owners like yourself are doing a great job in keeping these great cars on the road. Please share your experiences with the members and carry on enjoying your Jaguar. Regards, Peter.
  23. Welcome to the club, Don. If you see a good car old or new you just have to go for it if you like cars. Looking forward to your experiences. Regards, Peter.
  24. No Ideas or suggestions? Peter
  25. I bought my car in Solihull just 18 miles away from Stratstone [now Listers]. I have my car serviced by a mobile mechanic who knows about cars and the sound of the engine tells him as much as the diagnostic tools! Regards, Peter.
