  1. Hi All, The Luggage Cover in my son's 2006 X Type estate is refusing to retract, which looks like the spring mechanism has failed. Has any one tried to repair this expensive item with success? Any answers or suggestion for a replacement would be welcome. Regards, Peter.
  2. Welcome to the club, John. The 2.7 diesel is a very deceptive engine with tremendous acceleration when required. I have had mine for just over three years and still amazed by it quietness as well as its performance. Regards, Peter.
  3. Hi Keith, I have had a good look at the XS models and from what I could see on the pictures it does seem that the XS has fitted fog lamps on those that I could see clearly, and also with the appropriate switch. Not all had the fog lights though, so it looks to me that they were an optional extra. Regards Peter.
  4. More and more curious, Keith. I used VINDecoderZ.com to get my details and the service booklet tallies with what I got. However, on the first page of the printout it did have XJ6 4.0L compressor R6. The second page got it right. Some car manufacturers have been known to put cars on one side. But I think the most likely thing is that the fog lights could have been fitted by the dealer. Fog lights are not listed in what can be factory fitted as optional extras. The photo shows that there is no fog light switch. Regards, Peter.
  5. It is always worth checking out the seller of any item. I did so. I was told by the salesman when I bought my car that the discs supplied by Jaguar cost over £160, and it would be worth seeing what you could get on the open market. I got a genuine Denso disc for £29 and I have never had a problem Peter..
  6. HI Ian, It does count -- we have members as far away as Australia, and the USA, as well as locals in France, Portugal, Spain and both sides of the border in Ireland. Regards, Peter.
  7. Hi All, My S Type has done 68k miles, and is coming up to 10 years old, at which time the Cam belts will need chaining. However, when it was just two years old and had done 28k and in the ownership of Jaguar Dealer Stratsone of Exeter, is had a brand new engine fitted. The question is would the new engine come with cam belts already fitted, because if it did I would not need to change them for another 2 years. I think the reason for the first engine failure was the failure of the oil pump. The car runs beautifully and the only bit of work other than servicing has been a new water pump a few weeks ago. Regards, Peter.
  8. Hi Keith, Just open the passenger door and look at the pillar to the left and you will see a little plate with all the trim details. The paint code is three letters - mine is JJX which is Indigo. Then just google the code. Regards, Peter.
  9. Welcome to the cub, Stephen. Was there any warranty with the car when you bought it? If so, it might be worth ringing the dealer you got it from and see what he says. It could also be worth checking the gearbox oil. Several members have found that changing the oil at around 70k has mad a difference to the gearbox performance. Regards, Peter.
  10. That is peculiar, Keith. Do you know the date when you car left the production line? Mine came off the Production line on the 13 March 2007, and left the factory for the Dealer on the 20th March to Stratstone in London [Woodford] and was sold on the 31st March 2007. The Model year of the car is given from a ViIN check as 2008. It could be that your car came off the production line prior to mine. Regards Peter.
  11. Welcome to the Club, Paul. I too had company cars for 29 years -- Ford Escorts for 10 of them! The Jaguar experience is rather unique and I think you will enjoy it, and I hope you will enjoy the club just as much. Regards, Peter.
  12. Welcome to the Club. Jaguars are cars and a good mechanic will soon get to understand what they are! A bit of detail on your profile would be good. Regards Peter.
  13. Welcome to the Club, Mike. There are a few Club members in Australia --- you might come across them one day. The XKR is a great car and Pearl Grey really suits it. Enjoy! Regards, Peter.
  14. Hi Paul, I don't think it is the handbrake. It would have a message if it is sticking -- It will say "Parkbrake fault" and the engine amber light will come on and the car will not move. I am no engineer but if my car was feeling sluggish i would hazard a guess and start to think about fuel getting to the injectors, and get a bottle of Wynn's injector cleaner and out into at least half a tank of fuel. If it works it is a cheap fix. Regards, Peter.
  15. Enjoy the drive back, Jon.
  16. Welcome to the Club, Steve. As you say, age is just a number. I enjoy my S Type and son't consider myself old, as I am only just 82. Regards, Peter.
  17. Hi Keith, I also have the 2007 s type and replaced the 2006 disc with the last one for the s type -- 2011/12 version. I just googled "Sat Nav Disc" and found several places where you can get them with the cost around £25. You could try "The SatNavshop" also. Regards, Peter.
  18. Welcome to the club, Lou. The s type is a great car and a head turner. It is great to see that there are owners prepare to take on the job of keeping older/high mileage cars on the road. A couple of photos will be appreciated by the members. Regards, Peter.
  19. Hi Iain, and welcome to the club. My son has a x type 2.0D diesel, and he had some black smoke too. I went to Halfords and got a can of Diesel Magic to clean the injectors, as back smoke is a fuel problem. That should do it. If you are feeling generous, you could get the Terraclean service for his Birthday present which is well worth the £120 it will cost. Just google "Terraclean" and it will come up with the nearest garage that does the service. Regards, Peter.
  20. HI Ian,

It was referring to a post you made in January in which you asked a question about as Bluefin remap.

It also referred to an exchange you had with "Superchips".

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Peter.

  21. Welcome to the Club, Chris. I think your system must be quite different to mine as I can get three choices of routes - and the shorter and quicker are included, the quicker being the one I usually choose. We will be trying the Dorset roads in the Autumn and hopefully will avoid farm tracks! Regards, Peter.
  22. Hi Ian, and welcome to the club. I hope you enjoy the club as much as you enjoy your Jaguar. Combining your other post with this one, I have the 2.7 D engine in my s type which is basically the earlier version of the 3.0 D engine, and the cam belt change on my car is 105k or 10 years. I guess that your car must be similar. Jaguar were doing a deal for cam belt changes on the s type a year or so ago at a cost of £350, so I think that would be the minimum price. If you know a good independent garage you will find it probably a bit less expensive than a main dealer. Regards Peter.
  23. Welcome to the Club, Michael, I am sure other XF2.2 owners will be back to you, and when Ian sees this he will also put a post on the forum. Meanwhile, enjoy your Jaguar! Regards, Peter.
  24. That's a thought, Steve. Jon on the train to Birmingham International. I will pickup Jon at B Int and take 80 miles to location near Steve. Steve take Jon to car. That is what the club us about. Any thoughts? Regards, Peter.
  25. Hi Gerrad, and welcome to the the Club. Sad story -- these engines go on for ever [normally]. It might be worth contacting Jaguar just to see what they could do. I don't think £5k is too much out of the way for a new engine. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
