  1. Hi Wat, If you read the news you will only hear about aeroplane crashes rather than the number of successful flights --- a very small percentage. Many owners come on to this Forum to ask questions and to get assistance with the issues they have. It is the same on all car forums. I have had Jaguars for 5 years, and my S Type has been with me for 3 of them without an issue, there the a new water pump yesterday. I went to Ireland last year - the car was great, although two brake light bulbs failed and local tyre fitting garage supplied and fitted new ones for 5 euros. Regards, Peter.
  2. Hi Peter, and welcome to the club. I have had my S Type for exactly three years, and the only time I have had to put my hand in my pocket, other than tyres, fuel and services, was yesterday when a small coolant leak necessitated a new water pump. £140 is not expensive. My 2.7D is the SE model and is well loaded with optional extras, and the Gemini Engine is not only economical but also rather quick with great acceleration. For a big car the S Type handles very well, and being a rear wheel drive car, the steering is quite light and the car is easy to park I have been driving for over 50 years and this is the best car I have ever driven. Regards Peter.
  3. Hi Gary, My mechanic knows cars -- he works for himself - and he treats your car as it it's his own. What could have been an all day job just to find the leak took him 2 hours. Regards, Peter.
  4. Hi Alan, I also use the premium fuel - Shell V power as there is a Shell Station 500 yards away, and the cheapest fuel in the area - and there is a real difference. I do try for a longish run once a month. I also try not to use additives too much. I think most suggest that no sooner than 3000 miles. I tend to go by the feel of the engine to check whether it seems to be running well or otherwise. Sharing experiences is a valuable thing to do, Alan, and appreciated. Regards Peter.
  5. Hi Kevan, I have an S type SE, and when I bought it exactly three years ago tomorrow I checked up via the VIN number the factory fitted optional extras and then priced the cost of each item and found that the total cost of optional extras came to £10,996. There was even a proper spare wheel on a matching alloy rim. I can turn my car on my drive and the sensors are really useful! Regards, Peter.
  6. Hi Tommy, and welcome to the club. That is one very nice and well looked after car. I hope you enjoy both your Jaguar and the club. Regards, Peter.
  7. Hi Robin, and welcome to the club. My s type has front and rear parking sensors - and a boon they are! If you are electrically savvy there are some members who are good at retro fitting and could give you some assistance. Mobile auto electricians could possibly be found by googling. Regards Peter.
  8. Hi Dan, and welcome to the club. I am guessing your car has the 2.7D engine, which is the same one that is in my S type. I have had not had any problems with the DPF despite only doing short runs in the main. EGR valves getting sticky, yes and easily sorted. Keep us in touch with what the garage says --- with luck they might replace it. Regards, Peter.
  9. The Car passed its MOT without a problem, but a water leak was found by my mechanic. Car was taken away at 7.00 am and brought back at 10.45 am. Finding the source took longer than correcting the cause -- water pump. New pump, refill with coolant, total £140.
  10. Hi Brett, The DPF has caused me no problem at all, in spite of the fact I only do short runs for the most part. There are many additives just to boost up the engine performance. I only use premium fuel which the car likes. Regards, Peter.
  11. Thanks Steve, I am pleased you can help. When I have finished I will send you a draft copy. Regards Peter.
  12. Hi to Everyone, I am currently researching/writing a short book titled "THE CARS THAT SAVED A COMPANY" -- "The story of Jaguar based on the story of its cars. " This is a non commercial enterprise for International Strategic Management, and one of the things I would like to include is what owners think about their cars -- just a small review for each model with some photographs if possible. There is no rush and if I get enough reviews in the next 3 or 4 months I will be very happy. Reviews and queries should be sent to me by email and my address is franandpeter1@gmail.com or telephone me on 07737 969239 or landline -- just ask me for my number. All review will be proof read and any changes agreed with the writer, although I expect the latter will not be necessary. I hope members can assist -- I would really appreciate you help. Regards, Peter.
  13. Hi Alan, I had this once, and found that it was something to do with the mute button, and a look at the handbook gave me the information I needed. It is almost certainly in the settings. Regards, Peter.
  14. Hi Simon, and welcome to the club. I hope you keep the members informed of how this cars performs -- It will be very useful. We make great cars and engines in the West Midlands. Regards, Peter.
  15. Hi Brett, and welcome to the club. I think that you will find that out of the 130,000 or so S Type owners 90% never mention that they have had no problems at all. Having problems and looking for assistance is another matter. I bought my s type SE 2.7D on an 07 plate almost exactly 3 years ago, with 48k on the clock and two previous owners. I have had a couple of minor issues which took minutes to rectify, and one small water leak which will be rectified tomorrow. Otherwise no problems whatsoever. The last s types were made at the end of 2007 and you will be buying a car that is at least 9 years old. Obviously there will be some issues -- there are some with brand new cars -- but the 2.7 Diesel Gemini engine is a superb piece of engineering and is the result of a collaboration between Ford and Peugeot. The ZF gearbox is one of the most used automatic gearboxes, and is currently the favoured gearbox is most top car models. If you find a car that has a good service history and has been well looked after you will be rather pleased. X Type owners will also assist you. I used to own a 2.5 petrol X type and found it a great car and I would probably still have it if it had not been taken away by a local gang [3 in number] whose made a living from carjacking and who received an 8 year holiday in one of Her Majesty's Hotels. Regards, Peter.
  16. Hi Gary, I think that price is rather steep for a recon box. Good luck on Monday. Peter.
  17. Welcome to the Club, Ladies. I think you will find the members very helpful, and I hope you do enjoy the club. If you tell the members what parts you need, you will soon find the best places from which to source them. Regards, Peter.
  18. HI Gary and Simon The ZF gearbox -- in most top end cars -- is supposed t be sealed for life. However, there are quite a few members who have had the gearbox fluid changed at circa 75k miles with some improvement in the performance of the gearbox. Regards, Peter.
  19. Hi Tim, I don't know abut diagrams, but when I had a similar issue, I put the fan speed on full blast, and closed all the vents except one, and then went round opening and closing them in turn. Whatever it was went away. It sounds a bit daft, but it was quick and very easy to do. Regards, Peter.
  20. Hi Gary, I would be inclined to have a look on the internet for transmission specialists in your area. There are a few up and down the country and you might be lucky in getting one near you. It is a specialist service, and I guess a recondition gearbox in exchange fr your could be relatively cheaper. Regards, Peter.
  21. Whichever way is a good way it lets you do the job, Steve. It does make a difference, though and well worth doing now and then. Peter.
  22. Hi Steve, It just clicks open, although others have found it quite stiff. These Photos might assist. Regards, Peter.
  23. Hi Steve, It is very easy. I use Wynns EGR Cleaner - Halfords. First you have to get the car up to normal operating temperature. Then take out the air filter which s easy enough. Get the engine running and keep the revs at 1round 1200 rpm. My grandson, who is 9 assisted me with that. You can use a brick and a piece of wood. Prop up the air filter cover and doing you best to hold the can upright, and using the little extension tube, start giving short squirts from the can into the air intake. If the engine increases its revs, don't worry, as that shows that the cleaner is starting to work. Carry on until the can is empty. Replace the air filter, and then take the car for a short run. Job done! Wynns also have an injector cleaner and a DPF cleaner, which also are good additives. Regards, Peter.
  24. Hi Dave, I have learnt a lot about Jaguars from experiences shared on the Club Forums. Parking sensor is a thought. Obviously the sensors do not come into play if the ignition is turned off, but what knows what it will do if it is faulty. Keeps us in touch, as a solution will be useful. Regards, Peter.
  25. Hi Steve/David, I have had several occasions when the engine warning light comes on and plugged in the OBD2 scanner and found P0402 - excess exhaust gas - indicating the EGR valves [there are two] are sticky and not opening properly. The valves are located at either side of the V6 engine I have seen videos about their removal for cleaning, which led me to buy a can of Wynns EGR cleaner, which actually does work. Apparently the EGR removal process is quite tricky and certainly a bit mucky. You can see both valves quite easily, but with my Cost Accountant's mind in action, about 15 minutes with a can of EGR cleaner [about £10] comes out cheaper than 3 hours minimum at £20 an hour with the same result. My mechanic who I have used for 14 years also feels that if you can clean the valves without removing them you should follow that route. Regards, Peter.
