RIP 3.0 petrol and about to look at a 2.7 diesel
Old Peter replied to bdogg's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
Hi Brandon, Car looks great! Wheels are in better nick than mine! Regards, Peter. -
Hi Andy, and Welcome to the club. I think you will enjoy your X Type - nice car - I had a 2005 X Type SE AWD and really enjoyed it. Hope you enjoy the Club, too. Regards, Peter.

Sat-nav update
Old Peter replied to Ralphiespal's topic in Jaguar Audio / Video / Electronics / Security Systems
Hi Steve, I have the factory specification of my S Type with the list of optional extra factory fitted. This con be obtained by getting a main dealer to take your VIN Number into his computer system. There was a site given in a topic some years ago but it worked only occasionally. Peter. -
Sat-nav update
Old Peter replied to Ralphiespal's topic in Jaguar Audio / Video / Electronics / Security Systems
Hi Steve, I have had a good look around, and I cannot find an option for a SatNav. As far as I can gather the satnav is a basic fitting on all XF models, I have even tried to "Build my Car" and there is no option for including a SatNav. Regards, Peter. -
Hi Keith, First make sure the engine is running at normal operating temperature, and then make sure the rpm is stain at circa 1250 - a piece of wood and a brick can do it, or a willing assistant -- To remove the air filter, clink inwards the two retaining clips and life the cover until you can get to the air filter -- 3 minute job. Then remove the air filter and holding the can upright as far as possible, spray in short bursts into air inlet. Keep doing that till can is empty. It will get itself into the EGR valves. The revs should rise from time to time, which is nothing to worry about, but shows that it is working. When the can is empty, replace the air filter and take the car for a short run. There is also a product called Diesel Magic which also does an engine clean. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.

Mine has only been on a couple of times, and both times at about 60,

Welcome to the club, John. The S type is a great car, and you will enjoy the Jaguar experience. Hope your posts are positive and the roads of Lincolnshire see you driving along them quite gracefully! Regards, Peter.

Hi Keith, and welcome to the club. The gentleman may have something right, and if so a cheap solution. Try a can of Wynns EGR Cleaner or if available a Terraclean service. It does sound like one or the the other --- exhaust or fuel. Regards, Peter.

Hi Roger, franandpeter1@gmail.com My contact likes the first chapter, too. Regards, Peter.

RIP 3.0 petrol and about to look at a 2.7 diesel

Hi Adam, I think a Terraclean service - cost about £125 - would do your car a lot of good. I noticed a big difference in performance when I had my car done. Regards, Peter. -
Hi David, It is possible the key fobs need reprogramming -- a good auto locksmith might be a good option. I think that the 100,000 miles [100k] you have done is a bit high in the time you have had it! Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the club, Darren. That is a difficult question. I would see what the 2002 XK8 prices are for those of similar mileage. I would then look at the cost of replacing the headlining professionally, and then the cost of a respray. That should give you an idea of the value of the car. Regards, Peter.

Hi Steve, See my PM, but I have heard that the GGS only publish good reviews. Regards, Peter.

RIP 3.0 petrol and about to look at a 2.7 diesel
Old Peter replied to bdogg's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
Hi Brandon, That sounds rather good. Just ask the dealer to check the sills under the covers for signs of rust. Regards, Peter. -
Hi Robert, and welcome to the Club. I had an X Type 2.5 SE, and found it quite comfortable even after a Rover Sterling -- but then I am not a tall man, who I guess would find it quite size-limiting. The AWD does make it a little thirsty, but on longer runs I used to achieve about 33 mpg [manual gearbox]. I found the X type was quite agile -- once described as "nippy" by a journalist -- and could show a good turn of speed for a 2.5 litre car. But I think that you will get to enjoy it, as the Jaguar experience does grow on you. Regards, Pete.

RIP 3.0 petrol and about to look at a 2.7 diesel
Old Peter replied to bdogg's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
Hi Brandon, I have had a late model s type 2.7D SE for over three years. The 2.7 Gemini Diesel was built as a joint project between Peugeot and Ford and is a fine piece of engineering. It is quite quick with great acceleration and belies the fact that diesels are slow and noisy. The V6 engine has twin turbo chargers, and two EGR valves, the latter needing a clean out now and then. The clean out can be achieved by a good blast on a dual carriageway, or a can of EGR cleaner costing under £10. Easy! The Diesel Particular Filter has some horror stories, but most of them are apocryphal. I have never had a problem with mine even though I don't do a big mileage and mostly short runs. Again a drive of about half an hour when the engine is at normal operating temperature at over 40 mph will regenerate the DPF, and again there are additives that also do the job. The engine has a cam belt which needs changing at 105,000 miles or ten years, so ask that question if the car you are thinking of buying is close to that mileage. I get over 45 mpg on a long run, and have on one occasion returned 50.6 mpg. Driving around the city gives me on average about 35 mpg. I use premium fuel as I think it gives me a better performance, but there are many other drivers whose cars perform well enough with standard fuel/ A good test drive will surprise you. It certainly did surprise me, even though I had has two diesels as company cars previously. Regards, Peter. -
Thanks, Frank.

Thanks, Trevor. Birthdays mean resolutions to make sure you have another one! Peter.

It was a great day, Steve. We didn't go out for a meal, but sat in the sun in the garden with some bubbly wine, Sea Bass, and Ribeye Steaks. I never drink and drive -- it is drink OR drive. I didn't drive yesterday! Regards, Peter.

Hi Carl, and welcome to the club. I take it that there should be another 0 on the mileages. The 2.7 Gemini Diesel was designed as a joint venture between Ford and Peugeot and the 3.0 Diesel is an uprated version to meet the Euro 6 requirements and is naturally a little quicker than its predecessor -- which is no slouch either, and is the engine that powers the S Type Diesel. The 2.7 litre Diesel your are looking at is a very low mileage for its year, and I guess that it is in very good condition, too. The 3.0 litre diesel looks to have done a fairly average mileage and should be in a similar condition. A lot could depend on the mileage you will be doing, as both engines are quite good, but if you are going to do a big mileage you should note that a cam belt change will be needed at 105,000 or 10 years. If you are going to do a low mileage, I would probably go with the later model. Regards, Peter.

Thanks to all for the Good Wishes on my Birthday yesterday. Appreciated! Regards, Peter.

Hi David, and Welcome to the club. We lived on the doorstep of the Peak District for 12 years, and are still request visitors. I also have the 2.7 Diesel S Type on an 07 plate and find it a great car - I was also an admirer of the Mk2. "Grace, Space and Pace" - Sir William Lyons. I hope you enjoy the Club as much as you will enjoy your car. Regards, Peter.
-
Welcome to the Club, Chris. I think your expectations might well be exceeded -- The Jaguar experience is a great one. And I hope you enjoy the Club as much! Regards, Peter
-
Thanks, Stan and Bett. Fran and I will relax in the garden with something bubbly! I will send you a PM about our experience. Regards, Peter.

Hi Mark, The interior on mine only differs from the Maple dashboard and the wooden steering wheel. Peter.
