Tha's the way to do it, Gary. Having said that, although I did three weeks of research, and drew up a list, I actually bought the first one we saw as it met every single one of the requirements. We needed a car quickly as my x type had been stolen! Regards, Peter.

You may PM any of the Moderators. Simple. Personally, though, when you say you do not post to raise your post count, I just wonder why you post so much on the JOC Forums and the Foum that you run you don't appear to bother with at all? Peter.
-
The point is quite clear, The JOC rules can easily be found, and the moderators apply them when necessary. We have not found that we need to use them very often. You are reminded that the rules say that "Any members opposing a moderators decision should do so with the Moderator directly using PM or email in a professional manner" The rules also say that a member should not post for the sake of posting or to increase you post count. The moderators have indicated this to you. Peter.

Hi Gareth, There are a few members who have blanked off the EGR valve, and apparently it makes little difference and does not cause a problem with the MOT. It can only be partially blanked off on the S Type, but personally I wouldn't bother. Just make sure the car has a good blast now and then, and if that doesn't work, use one of the many EGR cleaners on the market. I use Wynns on the odd occasions the EML comes on and when a good blast doesn't work. Regards, Peter.

Earlier this month an event open to all Jaguar Owners irrespective of club held its inaugural meet at the Heritage Car Museum, at Gaydon. From what I have read and the information from the website, it was a most successful day. It starts at 9.30 am and there are bacon butties etc available. There were 150 Jaguars present, and some of the most iconic Jaguars ever built were brought out to join the others there. If any members are interested, just get along there, and put a notice on your car so other club members can recognise you. If you are going just say you will and prepare a notice for your car. DATES FOR 2016: 7TH MAY: 4TH JUNE 2ND JULY and first Saturdays on every month. Peter. Just Like This; OLD PETER. JOC

Hi David, Actually I can. Another member, Tigger, wanted to do the same thing and came up with little widget via Amazon call the V1 Car - a company called Anglink. It is tested both by Tigger and my son whose X type now has one cost £16.99. There are others around at various prices but this one is tried and proven, and works with his iPhone 6 just by plugging it into the power socket. Thanks to Tigger I know it works, and by next weekend you can be enjoying your music. Regards, Peter.

Very nice car, David, A great colour for the XK. I hope you enjoy the club as much as you enjoy your car. Regards, Peter.

This topic has been aired before, but as the SERVICE REQUIRED IN 1650 MILES came on this morning, I thought it might be useful to repeat it. 1. With ignition key in the OFF position, press down the CLEAR/RESET button. [Trip Computer] 2. Turn on ignition and release the CLEAR/RESET button. 3. Press down and hold down Trip button on left stalk and press down CLEAR/RESET button. 4 . Continue to hold down both buttons and the message SERVICE MODE RESET should appear after about 10 seconds when the reset is complete. If you have been fast enough -- 3 seconds to do 1, 2, and 3. that is job done. If it doesn't, try again. I do it every year or more and Have only got it done once first time. If you go to a dealer and ask him to clear it, he might do it for nothing, or he might blind you with science about needing to plug it in to the Jaguar Diagnostic system, get you a free cup of coffee, keep the car for 25 minutes and charge you £70.

Hi Frank, Neatly done, and may you never need to use it. Regards, Peter.

Hi Dave, I am a bit mystified, but when the car is serviced that should sort it out. Sometimes the solution to an issue seems to bear no relation to the issue. But a good tour will serve the car well, and I hope you enjoy it. Regards, Peter.

Hi Gary, Like other S type drivers I bought my car because I recognised what is, in my opinion, a future classic. When Sir William Lyons designed its predecessors his comment on it's launch was a simple one "Grace, Space and Pace". I have a late model S Type, which has the 2.7 Litre diesel engine, which is a fine engine and was designed as a joint venture between Ford and Peugeot and the main reason I chose a diesel was that the running costs were within the budget of a pensioner. The car is our only car nowadays and we do enjoy it both as a workhorse and a car to take us out for pleasurable days out and holidays. Other members are who drive the 3.0 litre V6 petrol find that this engine is one of the best they have driven. A lot comes down to personal choice. I also had an x type 2.5 litre V6 which, with it's all wheel drive, was both a good road holder as well as being quite fast. Like Paul [Raislin] and yourself I was a Rover Driver with my last car being a Rover Sterling with all the bess and whistles which I kept for 11 years and 122k. A little bit of homework I did before buying my S Type was in the specifications. I have the SE model but I found that the optional extras that were factory fitted to my car were quite high and that is something you should look out for, and if you make a list of what you want when you start the search. That might sound a bit like teaching grandmother to suck eggs, but it is worth doing. I hope this post is helpful, and I will also add that should you see a car advertised in an area far away, there might be a member in that area who will have a look at it and tell you what he/she thinks. Travelling 200 miles to look at a car that the previous owners glowingly described only find that it is poor condition is very disconcerting. Regards, Peter.

Hi Jim, The Forum rules are there for all to see, and I see no reason to put them anywhere else. Other clubs do things in a different way and I have, in several years of being a moderator is this club, only ever had to remind one person to read the rules, from which I feel that there needs to be no alteration on how and where these Rules should be placed. New members do not want to be hit with a vast array of "legislation" when they join a club, and with only the odd exception, have members had a post deleted due to infringements of the rules. Members who join the club do appreciate that it is a friendly club and and appear rather to like the way it works. I would respectful suggest that if you don't agree with how this club operates that you devote more time to to the Jaguar related club that you run rather than the JOC. Regards, Peter.

I never use the word Jag, and to me the pits was the Jeremy Claaaaarkson version of the word. I didn't think the man had any taste at all, Peter.

Hi Tim, The guy at work must not be aware that a lot of advanced technology went into designing the S Type chassis in Detroit - it is a Lincoln chassis. The engine is a Ford. Car manufactures use engines to suit the cars they design, which is why the Rolls Royce used a Buick engine from 1946 until BMW bought them. You can tell what gearbox it is from the "J" gate manual side left. If it has a 4 3 2 1 sequence it ought to be a 5 speed Ford gear box. Regards Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Nick. It is nice to see so many s types around in the West Midlands -- where the car was made. The club are a very friendly group of people and will assist with any issue you may have. I hope you enjoy the Club as much as you enjoy your car. Regards, Peter.

Hi Bill, There have been sone aircon issues and probably those members with that issue will advise. On the question of additives I use Premium fuel all the time which the engine does like. I have used the odd additive, and currently have some Wynns injector cleaner in the boot. I will use it sometime. They suggest some every 3000 miles, but I have not used it yet. I have used Wynns fuel system cleaner just as a preventative measure, which I used in conjunction with some Wynns EGR cleaner when the engine warning light came on and code P0402 came up -- stick EGR Valve. What works best, though is Premium fuel! Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Kenny. Predictive text seems to be a robot interfering with a human being --- or possibly vice versa. I first saw Terracleand on the TV just after I bought my 2.7D S type. It seems like a good process, and when a member local to me bought a 2.0 litre Diesel X type and found that it wouldn't start when it was hot -- which he found a bit of a nuisance -- he had taken it round to a well respected local Jaguar dealer who diagnosed that both the glow plugs and injectors needed replacing at a cost of £1200, he asked me if there was an alternative. We talked about terraclean, and two days lated he told me that he had just spent about £110 to have it done ----- and the car was now running perfectly. There nothing wrong with my s type, but I thought that I would try it out to see if it improved what I thought was rather a good engine. I was getting around 40 mpg on a long run and around 28 mpg round the city. A few days after I had it done I went to a funeral in Sheffield about 90 miles away, half dual carriageway and half on the M1 which was limed to 50 mph because of roadworks. For that half of the journey got 50.3 mpg! A different route using more motorway but less restrictions one I was able to put my foot down a bit over half of the 100 miles return trip the result for the round trip was 46.1 mpg. The car was also much more responsive. I was also advised to us premium fuel, which I have done ever since. Two weeks ago I drove up the Lake District - 215 miles and got 46.7 mpg on the way up and on the way back on a Bank Holiday Monday with holdups, I got 45.6 mpg. This is the third diesel I have had, the first two were both Rovers, the 418 Peugeot engined diesel and the 420 Rover diesel, bot of which returned on average over very big mileages around 38 mpg. My much bigger and heavier S type Jaguar with the 2.7 diesel gives me about 560 miles on a full tank -- over 40 mpg. I have no connection with the Terraclean service, but just tell people my experience, Regards, Peter.

Hi Richard, and welcome to the club. My kids would never get in the back seat on an XK. Mind you, the youngest of the three is over 40! There is a little widget you can get on eBay that costs about £15 that gets your 'phone connected via bluetooth and plays your music. On the radio aerial, there are quite a few members with the necessary expertise who will assist. Thee are XK members all over the country who drive that great Model. Regards, Peter.

I will watch this space, Frank. Sharing experiences is a great learning experience. Peter.

Thanks Damon, all is now clear. Certain wheels suit certain cars --- I liked the 17" wheels on my X type, and I think the 18" wheels on my s type are just the right size, Peter.

Hi Roy, Just a further comment on your outstanding XK8. Steve Sheldon is organising a meet in Brighton. I think is is on the 29th of May. I know it is a bit far from you, but I think your car would be the star of the show. Regards, Peter.

Hi Bob, Someone will snatch your hand off. Very interesting. Peter

Hi John, I think that this should recovered by the warranty. Since I retired I have bough three cars in 17 years and every one 0f them has had two key fobs in full working order. I can't guess at what the difference is between silver and gold holder. My car, being an S type on an 07 plate has a slightly different key fob. Regards Peter.

Hi Ali, My son has an x type sport 2.0D on an 06 plate and has a somewhat similar problem in part. The car runs beautifully, except for the fact that he gets some black smoke when accelerating. Black smoke is usually the sign of unburnt fuel, and Wynns have a product that is supposed to help. They also have a similar product that cleans the fuel injectors which is also worth looking at. There is a process called Terraclean which is rather good for diesel engines as it clears out the fuel system and there is a mobile who covers the Walsall, lLchfield and Sutton Coldfield areas and their peripheries which could be worth investing about £120 in. Regards, Peter.
