  1. Hi Steve, Your assumption is correct. I used warm soapy water to get rid of any accumulated dirt, and then some WD40, which seems to do the job. No problems at all this wet winter. I would also check the spare wheel well [I have a proper care wheel on a matching alloy rim] and see if there is a drain hole that could be blocked as an inch of water not good. I used to have a Ford Escort in which the drivers footwell would fill up with water every time it rained. I drilled a hole to let it drain out and only discovered a month or so later that it was a missing rubber grommet in the wheel arch which allowed water in. Let us know what you find. Regards, Peter.
  2. Hi George, I have an S Type SE 2.7 diesel the same year as yours and agree that it is a great car. The position of the sensor module is a little bit way from where water ingress can occur. It is worth giving the seals round the boot some cleaning as if the car has not been used for some time they could have got less pliable. I had some water ingress and as my car is parked on a slope the water was running down towards the battery.. Just putting some kitchen tissue at the left side of the battery stopped water getting any further and also enable me to see where it came from, which was the left side of the car. It is now completely cured by cleaning the rubber seals. Also look for the cheapest fix on the parking module -- it could be switched off! The battery on a 2007 s type usually lasts about 5 or 6 years and I guess would have been replaced. Mine was replaced in February 2012. You should check that it is the correct battery for the car, as I have come across one on an s type that would have struggled with a Mini. I would not worry about the transmission. The ZF gearbox is a good one, and is indeed used by Rolls Royce, although some members have changed the fluid at 70k miles of so with beneficial effects. But if I have no problems with my gearbox I won't be changing the fluid until I have to. An 07 model is one of the last to be manufactured and all of the smaller issues have been sorted out, and I have not had a problem with my car since I bought it nearly three years ago. Regards Peter.
  3. Hi David and Welcome to the club. I am not an electrical expert, but I am guessing that it is a faulty connection. It should not be the bulbs as a message should come on telling you about a bulb failure. A member might have a wiring diagram which could be useful if you can follow one --- there are some members who are very good at electrics who will assist. Regards, Peter.
  4. Hi Rob, Sometimes there is a little room via the window rubbers at either side of the glass - just squirt a little WD40 and see how it goes. Other than that, you can take part of the door card off. Not having an XF I couldn't be exact as to exactly where is the easiest. Regards, Peter.
  5. Hi Rob, It has me puzzled a bit too. I wonder if LED lights are suitable for the map lights? Regards, Peter.
  6. Welcome to the Club, Rob. Could I suggest that a squirt of the old faithful -- WD40 -- might assist. A cheap fix and worth a shot. Regards, Peter.
  7. Hi Mark, and Welcome to the Club. I assume you have had the oil changed when you had the other gearbox work done --- it is supposed to be set for life but many owners have it replaced at around 70k miles. The other thing I would try is to use the manual operation of the gears using the left side of the "J" gate by starting off in 1st gear and working up through the gears and then vice versa. That might give you a clue as to whether it is mechanical, electrical or hydraulic. The engine warning light coming on and going off suggests something quite minor -- but it still needs checking out. Your local indie will probably do it for you, unless you know someone with an OBD2 code scanner. Jaguar charge about £70 to plug you into diagnostics ---- my mechanic either does it for nothing, unless it is a complicated set of codes it needs to read. Let us know you get on. Regards, Peter.
  8. Welcome to the Club, Sean The X Type is a great car and I think you will enjoy it. I used to have the 2.5 litre All Wheel Drive X Type and it was a really good car to drive. You will find that the Club has many friendly and helpful members. Regards, Peter.
  9. Hi Nathan, I wish I was nearer but like Andrew, I am also a long way away. Andre has given you a good pointer, though --- good low mileage cars are hard to come by. Hopefully members in the Blackburn area might pop up. Regards, Peter.
  10. Welcome to the club, David, There are a good bunch of guys here and quite a few XKR owners of what is a future classic. I hope you enjoy the club, and share your experiences. Regards, Peter.
  11. Welcome to the Club, Dave. I would have loved an XKR -- a future classic, -- but taking around a few grandchildren dictated the need for more room in the rear. There are quite a few XKR owners in the club who will help with any issues that you might have. If you look around on the forums you will see that Steve Sheldon has organised a really good event with a convoy of Jaguars into Brighton and some reserved parking there --- and that event is coming up soon. There is a great variation in owners' cars in the Club --- from the E Type to the F type and a great deal of knowledge to be shared. Regards, Peter.
  12. Hi Steve, Glad you like the Forums. Paul is a wizard with electrics and is always ready to help. I do know that there are a lot of members in Yorkshire and all it needs is for someone to think of a good venue and organise the meet. I would come up to Yorkshire for a meet as I worked in Yorkshire for 12 years in the Steel Industry. Haydn [Glyn] is hoping to get a meet going at Mallory Park at the end of May. Meanwhile, enjoy your Jaguar. Regards, Peter.
  13. Hi Joe, I was thinking of going but SWMBO has decided that as the Grandchildren are staying over tonight, son and daughter in law will be coming over tomorrow and I am required to deal with a Goose for Lunch! I will mark down the other one in September/ October though. Regards, Peter.
  14. Hi Len, and welcome to the club. The x type is a great car and the 2.0 litre diesel is a well tried and tested engine, and very economical. And your wife has just proved the point that the Jaguar experience is a very good one. The is a meet at Mallory Park being organised by Glyn [Haydn] for the 29 of May that looks like a good day out where you will be able to meet some members. Regards, Peter.
  15. Hi Andrew, How about hiring a Jaguar -- try Enterprise Car Rental -- and taking you Dad to the Classic Car Museum at Gaydon, right next door to to the new Jaguar factory. It is near Coventry and just a couple of miles off the M40. The Museum has some very nice classic cars to look at. The Green S Type is one that Jaguar raced, and it is a 2.7 Diesel. The other car I saw in a local car park! Regards, Peter.
  16. Hi Gary, and welcome to the Club. I am afraid that I don't know where to buy replacement for Jaguar E Types the than Jaguar Classic parts. I would recommend, though, looking at softening the rubber that you have already bought. There are various products that will do that, but I would start by using some WD40 on a short length of rubber, and see how it goes, Regards, Peter.
  17. Hi Haydn, Not the best date for me, as I will have just got back from getting off a boat in Dover the day before. SWMBO might be a bit dischuffed if I go off doing cars thing if she is operating the washing machine ----- unless I exercise my persuasive power and Stan from Hinckley is there wanting to know what our Norwegian experience was like. Regards, Peter.
  18. Hi Mike, I think the gauge needs replacing. We had a Ford Escort years ago which registered practically nothing even when the engine had been on for an hour, and we knew that the temperature must have been normal. A replacement was easy in those days, and we had normality in the instrumentation. See what you can find in Ebay or somewhere similar. Peter.
  19. Hi Russ, I worked in the Steel industry for the whole of my working life, and worked in Sheffield at the time when Powder coating was developed, but the process was sold off as it was really too expensive to use on a large scale. It is said to be better than paint for things like alloy wheels. I believe that there are some companies in the Birmingham area who do a wheel restoration in which you send the the wheels and they refurbish them and send them back. It is a bit costly, though. I will look around and see if I can give you a website to look at. See below. Regards Peter. ALLOY WHEEL REFURBISHERS LTD --- FENTON, STOKE-ON-TRENT They use a courier service.
  20. Dependent on date, Haydn count me in. Peter.
  21. Hi William, Steve has made a good suggestion. There simplest things are the ones that you can forget about! Regards, Peter.
  22. Hi Andy, Jaguar do fit a few different brands but Europarts told you that Jaguar would have fitted Lucas or Teves on an s type of your year of manufacture. I do now that Pagid are a good make and Jaguar sometimes fitted the on to the S Type 4.2R. But to find what you have on your car, you will still have to take a wheel off. Regards, Peter.
  23. Hi Andy, They are usually pretty good. I think that a wheel needs taking off to check which discs and pads you have on your particular car. Regards, Peter.
  24. Hi Andy, I have looked around, and can't find anything definite. There are several companies who could help and it might be worth ringing them, -- Euro Car parts, Rimmer Bros, and the David manners group, with the latter having an online catalogue. It might be worth trying a good independent Jaguar specialist -- just a chat over the 'phone to see if there is a good method of finding out. Regards, Peter.
  25. Hi Neal, and welcome to the club. I think that the radio problem could be something to do with the settings, and you may need to disconnect the battery for a few minutes, but make sure you have the radio code ready, then after reconnecting, the touch screen will require the code to be entered and then look to redo all the settings and the volume controls etc. You should have an enjoyable ride down to London --- it is much nicer even in a traffic jam to be sitting in a Jaguar than other makes of car! Regards, Peter.
