I bought one last week for my son who has an X type Sport which has bluetooth but he could not play his music through to the car speakers. It cost £16.99 plus P&P, and he rang me yesterday to say it was really good. Peter.

Hope Morgana sees as many as me, Paul.

My S type came off the Production line ar the Castle Bromwich Factory 9 years ago today. I have given it a great polish, being as it cannot eat cake to blow candles out. Peter.

Hi Adam, No experience of the XJR, but when you car goes into limp mode you will need to get a diagnostic tool plugged into it, and see what it throws up. Peter.

I hope everything is OK tomorrow, Paul.

And that picture was taken the day after a trip on a P&O freighter's deck and a 140 miles drive across Ireland! And with the wind blowing a lot! Peter.

Hi John, My first Jaguar was an X type 2.5 AWD and it was a great car. I really wanted an S Type when my old Rover Sterling was getting tatty, but when we saw the X type SWMBO like it so much we caught it and no regrets. When it was stolen, SWMBO said we should turn a disaster into an opportunity, and needing a car quickly I did an intensive search, and found one within out budget in Dumfries at Stratstone Jaguar, who said they would bring it down for me to look at. But within an hour Stratstone Solihull rang and said that had one there - just 18 miles away. We saw it and bought it. Nearly three years later and hardly a problem Great Car. With SWMBO in Galway looking out over the Bay. Peter.

You are probably right, Paul. I thought about having the Front fog lights fitted, but I do little night driving and the headlights are pretty good on the S type. Regards, Peter. P.S. Have you seen the post about the Jaguar Spares event at Stoneleigh? I might go unless SWMBO has something else less interesting planned.
-
I wonder if if that was the reason why Front Fog lights were not fitted to the S Type 2007 Model?

Hi Geoff, Too many short journeys when DPF not full regenerated dumps the oil that the ECU shoves in to help the DPF to get clean gets into the engine oil. Peter.
-
Got rid of the sand from the engine bay --- cause-- a gritting lorry gritting the M6Toll on a dry and windy afternoon. And then took out a litre of oil from the sump by pump, Peter.

Hi John, Quite a simple answer, as an S type Owner, with a son who has an X type diesel. First, the x type diesel is a front wheel drive car, with a smaller engine than the S Type, and the front wheels drive the car as well as steer the car The s type is a rear wheel drive car with a much bigger and heavier engine sitting at the front, and does not have to cope wth drive as well as steering. I find the difference when I drive my son's car. Regards, Peter.

Hi Steve, When my wife was made redundant [and it was unfair] my elder son who is an archaeologist needed a car so he "borrowed" his Mum's car. and it was the big mileage it did in two years he had it cause it to die. But it worked well for a little car wth a 1.18 litre engine. The next car she had was this one.
-
And actually it was great car Peugeot 205 that did 100k before it died. Peter.
-
There you are, Steve. SWMBO once bought a a brand new car because she liked the green seatbelts. Peter.

Hi Bill, Like Steve AC issues are in a different world than the one in which I live. I had a lot of heat coming from my AC when I first got my s type, but It would settle down after a while. Regassing cured it, and now it behaves. Regards, Peter.

That sounds good, Joe, and I think I will go. I will check with SWMBO to make sure no other occasion will be getting into my diary. Regards, Peter.

Hi Liam, The mechanic who has serviced my cars since 2002 has a diagnostic tool that he bought for £2500. I have one that cost me £20 off Ebay. There is a wide difference. The mongoose is a great system but I would not be brave enough to use it as Joe puts it. I just keep my little one in the boot, and the only times I have used it is when the EML comes on and it has told me P0402 -- Google tells me that there is too much exhaust gas not getting into the EGR valves. Cure -- a good blast. The first time it happened Jaguar charged me £65! Luckily, I have had no other issue in almost three years. A code reader that reads all the modules will definitely finds its way into my boot eventually. Regards Peter.

Hi Nathan, Tom has given you some sound advice. Now and then I press the S button on the Auto gearbox, and sometime I put the gearbox into 4th gear to give the engine a good blast. Add to that, as Tom has said, use the best oils and Jaguar filters cost about a penny more than others -- and you can buy them cheaply from many sources. I always use Shell V power rather than the cheaper version, as I get a better mpg. Engines are quite varied on the x type. The two diesel engines used are the 2.0 litre Diesel, which is the Ford Duratorq and a good workhorse, and the 2.2 Litre Diesel is still being used by Jaguar in the XF. I am afraid I don't know much about the exhausts on the X Type. I used to work with a chap who used to change his car every three years, and he always used to get one either at the end of its production run, and sometimes after a new model came out. So get as late a model as you can with best spec, and try for the SE model. Keep on looking and you will get the car you want. Regards, Peter.

Hi Adam, There are some wheel refurbishes who are Mobile and will come to you. It sound a bit like a one day job. Regards, Peter.

Hi David, That looks OK. It is just a pity they are based in Digbeth, which is a pain to get to and get out of. Apparently there is also a guy in Lichfield who my son tells me charges £100 a car. I would save a tenner on fuel! Peter.
-
The system does look rather interesting. It might be worth investing in! Peter.

Hi Paul and welcome to the Club. Tony has pointed you in the right direction. I think that if you wrote to the DVLA they might well give you the information they need. When I got my car the service history plus previous MOTs were there and I was able, luckily, to establish who had owned the car before me. Regards, Peter.

Rather nice!

Jim, I said disregard the stories, not disregard the DPF. Much advice has already been given about how to treat the diesel engine, and I do not propose to repeat it. Peter.
