  1. Hi Nathan, My son has has a 2.0 litre diesel X Type not it has not got a DPF. [06 plate] My S type [07 plate] has a DPF and I have never had a jot of trouble in spite of I do mostly short journeys. I have had the car for almost three years. Most of the stories you hear about the DPF are apocryphal and could be better disregarded. Buy a car with theist specification you can get and if it is nice and clean, no dents, and a good service history, you are likely to get a good car. Regards Peter.
  2. Hi Steve, As you have a fully optioned XFR I would certainly not bother with any modifications. Jaguar cars do have a long list of optional extras, and when they have been factory fitted as well as being designed by experts, I would be inclined to enjoy what I have bought. Regards Peter.
  3. Welcome to the Club, David. The XK is a future classic and I often see one over 10 years old in the Supermarket car park belonging to a lady who has had it from new and who can't bear to part with it. Regards, Peter.
  4. Welcome to the Club, Steve. You will find that the members are a friendly bunch of people who are very helpful. The Jaguar you have is a real head turner and I see one occasionally in the local car park - also in black. The Jaguar factory in Castle Bromwich is only six miles away from where I live in Sutton Coldfield and I sometimes see new models on the road. We make very good cars in Birmingham [and Coventry] Regards, Peter.
  5. Hi Adam, Road fund license is a big difference after they changed it. I noticed that all cars were the 2.5 litre AWD, one of which I had. Great Car! The two latter ones did catch my eye and the low mileage and probably a good service history would be a plus. However, the last one does look rather good, and the automatic gearbox can also be advantageous. The low mileage on Number 4 does attract me, though! The dove grey leather is also rather nice - I have it on my S type. Let us know what you go for. Regards, Peter.
  6. Welcome to the Club, Philip. You might see another member in North London with a similar car. Nice car in both looks and drive. Regards, Peter.
  7. Hi Adam, and welcome to the club Paul has given you some very sound advice which you should follow. Where you live, your age, and your occupation are big factors in the cost of insurance. I currently pay about £520 per annum with Swift Cover, but if I lived in a quiet village in Dorset it would be half as much. I do about 6500 miles a year, but if I did about 10k it would go up by £50, and where it is kept his also a criterion. Swift Cover give me a 12.5% discount for using a Nextbase Dash cam, so that is also worth thinking about. Regards, Peter.
  8. Welcome to the Club, Carl. Two weeks is long time to wait. I would be inclined to pester them a bit, find out who their supplier is, and also do an internet check --- eBay or something similar to see what their delivery times are. If you can get the telephone number of their supplier, a bit of pestering him could do no harm. Regards, Peter.
  9. Nice cars, Bernard. I will look out for them when I pass through God's County at Easter! Peter.
  10. The BBC did not have a choice about sacking Clarkson, and if the matter had gone to an Employment Tribunal the decision would have gone in favour of the BBC. Why they coughed up a large amount of money I don't know. The BBC Personnel Department must have been totally inept. Peter.
  11. HI Robert, My car sits outside while my daughter's Boxes of vinyl sits in the garage, so I also get a touch of condensation. Peter.
  12. Hi Steve, The David Manners Group has a good online catalogue. They do supply genuine Jaguar parts, and I have used them several times. They are based about 15 miles away from me and I have been round to their premises to pick up a few odd things - Mudflaps etc. It is worth having a look at their website. Regards, Peter.
  13. Hi Rowley, Joe has given you some very good information. There had been some garages advertising DPF removal and as the MOT test is visual [at the moment] they are encouraging drivers to have the DPF removed and the "box" in which it fits welded back to fool the MOT tester. My neighbour has had this done to his Mazda 6 and it has got through the MOT, but he now realises that the EU might well decide that the MOT test should be more than visual -- cost to refit an new DPF could be very expensive. I have not had a problem with mine even though I do mostly short runs -- but give it a good run at least once a month. Regards, Peter.
  14. Hi Adam, I have just checked and the DPF was not fitted on the s type till 2005 inn order to meet the Euro emissions test. The seller was quite right. Regards, Peter.
  15. Hi Bill, and welcome to the club. I have the s type 2.7 Diesel and a very good engine it is. I have never had a problem with the DPF, and all it needs is about 1 longish drive a month --- about no longer a the 40 minutes at around 45 mph or over. I do mostly short runs and less than about 6500 miles a year. The stories you hear are mostly apocryphal. However I do believe that your model does not have a DPF fitted. You can usually check this by looking at the exhausts. If the exhaust gases are directed downwards there is no DPF filter fitted. One little tip is to always make sure your battery is regularly charged as the S Type does not tolerate a battery in bad condition. And if you have the Message "Parkbrake Fault" just disconnect the battery [make sure you have the radio code] and then after a minute or so connect it, apply the footbrake and parkbrake, and then reset your clock, volumes, radio, windows etc. [There is a post with full instructions]. Meanwhile, enjoy the Club and your Jaguar. Regards, Peter.
  16. Hi Steve, I wouldn't worry about the DPF regeneration if you do a good 40 minute run once a month at a good speed. But DO check you oil, as what Jim says is correct, but note that the dipstick on the S Type 2.7D is of curious design and can sometimes give you a false reading if the second dip is used and the car is not level. I only do about 6500 miles a year with mostly short runs and I have never had a DPF problem. Regards, Peter.
  17. Hi Paul, I saw on TV suspension being raised by changing the suspension springs. Unless you could do that job yourself I guess you would need a garage with the tools to do it. Not being a engineer [I trained as an accountant] I can usually find out what needs doing to solve a problem, but my training also taught me to get someone else to do it! A good bet would be to talk to your local garage and see it a deal could be done. Regards, Peter.
  18. Hi Paul, I used to tow a caravan and know this problem about "grounding". There are other members of the club who do two with s types without grounding problems. The s type is quite a low car, and even so, some owners have lowered it further, which could be the case in your car. I would be inclined to get the suspension lifted a couple of inches, and when this light drizzle has stopped, I will check how high off the ground my S Type SE is. Regards, Peter. P.S. Drizzle stopped and a quick measurement from the bottom of the sills feeling for the lowest point is 15cm front and rear. I have 18" wheels on my cars with ordinary tyres.
  19. Hi Alan, and Welcome to the club. Electric seat - first check the fuses and then check if the seat has just got stuck -- if so, WD40 on the runners. Peter.
  20. Hi Steve and welcome to the club. There are a lot of members in Yorkshire, and any member wishing to organise a meet would be doing a great service. The S Type is great car and the 2.7 diesel is a very good engine --- mine is great to drive. Hope you enjoy the club as well as your Jaguar. Regards, Peter,
  21. Jim, Can you put the instructions [and in your other post similarly] on the site in a PDF format as that would be printable. Peter.
  22. Hi Lisa, Have a look on the internet and see if you can find either an Auto Locksmith or an Auto Electrician. You could be lucky and find a mobile one --- there is one round here! Good Luck Peter,
  23. Hi Kevin and welcome to the club. Buying from a main dealer, and having it serviced by an Independent garage is the best way to go, in my opinion. Main dealer always give a warranty but other dealers often only give a limited one. The XF is a nice car and when you are sitting behind a line of Caravans on Summer weekends you will find the Jaguar far more comfortable doing the same in a German Car! Regards, Peter.
  24. Hi Neil, and welcome to the club. I am no mechanical expert and currently drive an S Type, which I think is a future classic. There are quite a few members who own the XJ Model who will give advice from their experience. Regards, Peter.
  25. Hi Michael, and welcome to the club. Regarding vendor options I think you should contact the Club Administrator Steve Barnes -- for information, steve@jaguarownersclub.com You will find a friendly group of people who have one thing in common -- they are also great fans of Jaguar cars. Regards, Peter.
