  1. Welcome to the club, Julian. Your post will be very useful in the event of others having the same problem. Main dealers do charge quite a lot, even for just a diagnostic test. About 4 years ago I was charged £69 for 25 minutes work in solving a diagnostic scan and a deleting of the EML. I then spent £20 on an OBD2 scanner which I have used a dozen times since to find the issue, saving me a few shillings! Regards, Peter.
  2. Hi Rick and welcome to the club, The x type is a great car -- I had a 2005 2.5 AWD --- and thoroughly enjoyed it. There is a means to get a connection to an iPod ,but we have a few electric experts who will give you the details. Regards, Peter.
  3. Hi Elvis, I get the same on mine also fitted by Autoglass to replace a cracked one, which also was the same. When defrosting, I switch on the "demist" button which does the job very quickly, as it uses both the electric element and the blower. Regards, Peter.
  4. Welcome to the Club, Martyn. I hope you enjoy your XF - very good car - and I hope you enjoy the Club. Regards Peter.
  5. Hi Graham, Terraclean is more beneficial for diesel engines, and if you are getting a good mpg with your XK, I would personally not bother. I was advised to use "Forecourt" fuel and I always use Shell V Power in my S Type Diesel. The fact that the local Petrol station is Shell and I get bonus points makes the use of premium fuel cheaper that the pump price! Peter.
  6. Try Evans Halshaw, Luke. They will bring the car to one of their premises near you, and I am certain there will be one to suit. Regards, Peter.
  7. Hi Paul, I think you can buy them separately for under £40. There is website called "Reluctor rings" that appears to be quite good. You can also try The David Manners Group, who specialise in Jaguars and look at their catalogue. Regards, Peter.
  8. This is not a problem, Paul. You will find it now in the S Type Club Regards. Peter.
  9. Hi Luke, The advertised price seems about OK for an X type with that mileage. The question I would ask is about the service history and previous owners. Is the car clean and the bodywork nice and straight would be the next question. Whether you could walk away from the car without losing your deposit could be an issue. I checked out Lion Motors and it appears that they are quite a recently formed company, about a year, with only 1 Director. Let us know the result of the specialist's report, and if you could make a decision then. Regards, Peter.
  10. Welcome to the Club, Paul. You find that we have a very friendly and helpful members with a wide range of knowledge and a wide range of Jaguars. Feel free to ask any question, and I hope you will also share your experiences. Regard, Peter.
  11. Hi Niall, Andy is quite right. I do a visual check every week, and my coolant was close to minimum las week, but no message comes up. Peter.
  12. Hi Tony, I found the Sterling a great car and wanted to give it a respray plus some mechanical work, but was persuaded not to spend 2 grand to make it worth a grand! Peter.
  13. It's great being middle aged, Stan. I am told that once you get past 80 you will live to be 100. --- At least so the pension actuaries say! And just an aside - Saga Pearl ll is sold out on May 21st, and almost sold out on the next trip to Norway! I will give you a report in June. Peter.
  14. Wages are a very important issue. Company cars are another one. I had company cars for 30 years. I had a Rover 420 - the boss had a Rover sterling. When I retired I bought a Rover 825 sterling which I kept for 11 years. Jaguars were not in the ascent in 1999 when I retired, but when the Rover Sterling wore out I went for the Jaguar. I would have loved one 50 years ago! Peter.
  15. Hi Martin, After all the hard work, you can start enjoying you s type. The s type is quite a low car and speed bumps have to be carefully negotiated, as some are quite vicious. Regards, Peter.
  16. Welcome to the Club, Mark. Glad you like the club, and its success is only because of the members who share their experiences. You have done a great job on your car, and hope that you tell us of your experiences and share your knowledge. Regards, Peter.
  17. Correct, Tony --- there were several other Peters in the club so being as both my Grandfathers, my father, one son and two grandchildren are all Peters, and there has always been an Old Peter in the family, it seemed appropriate. Peter.
  18. They do look good, Simon & the 18" wheels suit the S Type very well. Peter.
  19. Hi Tony and welcome to the club. My s type is a 07 model and i was able to get an up to date [2012] disc quite easily from SatNav updates. I don't know about the pre facelift software, though. There are several members with press facelift models who should be able to help. Regards, Peter.
  20. Hi Daniel, and welcome to the club. The x type is a very good car [I had an X type SE] and the 2.0 litre Diesel is well tried and tested, and is very economical. i hope you enjoy the club as much as you will enjoy your Jaguar. Regards, Peter.
  21. Hi Michael, I used to have a 2.5 AWD of a similar year, with a manual gearbox. It used to idle just under 900 rpm - so that's OK. On the acceleration, I sometime had a small check, as it were, if I floored it in 2nd or 3rd. I adjusted my driving to accommodate it and if I wanted to accelerated very quickly I would keep the revs high and change gears quite gently taking it into neutral rather than in one sharp movement. I never used to accelerate hard from 3rd - as I thought the same as your wife. Regards, Peter.
  22. Hi Mel and welcome to the Club. You have made a good choice in the S Type -- I fell in love with the style of the car when the mechanic I used to repair my bikes was restoring a Mk 1 in 1963. I think you will find that the members are a very friendly bunch of people from all walks of life who enjoy their cars, and will assist others to do so too. Regards, Peter.
  23. Hi Steve, Andrew is quite correct, as I also tested my s type mirrors [accidentally] the same way. My son has an x type Sport which appears to have the electric fold back. Regards, Peter.
  24. Hi Steve, The Moderators have no problem with an issue being mentioned in the "New Members Introductions" Forum, and if they feel that it is in the wrong place they will move it to the correct spot. Most active members do tend to read new posts, and certainly all the Moderatorr read every post to keep au fait with the mise en scene, as they say! Regards, Peter.
  25. Hi Mark, That is hard to guess, Mark. Cars are a bit like women --- totally unpredictable, but us males still can't do without them! Regards, Peter.
