Hi Ian, Give the hinges a spot of WD40 or light oil. It works with my kitchen door! It's worth a try. Peter.

Hi Phil, That is a good idea from David. You can also try "rejuvenating" the rubber seals with WD40 or something similar. I had water ingress in my boot and giving the rubber seals a good clean has solved the problem Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.

Hi Mark, and welcome to the club. The XKR is a very nice car, and there are quite a few owners in the club who will share their experiences with you. I don't know about maintenance costs in the USA but in the UK there is quite a bit of competition in that market - plus a lot of expertise here in the Club. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.

Most Curious, Paul. I will have a mess around tomorrow with various settings. Peter.

Hi Liam, Sometimes the headlamp covers on the x type need a good clean. Halford do sell a kit, but there have been successes with toothpaste and elbow grease. Regards, Peter.

Hi Paul, I use the split screen option and the street is at the bottom of the screen. I have tried the other screen choices and the street name is still there. Is it possible that the discs are slightly different or the Satnav unit is different? Curious! Regards, Peter

Hi Nathan, The SE is the top of the range for standard fittings and trim, but the number of optional extras that can be factory fitted is quite a lot. While the standard fittings are still rather good on the SE [I used to have a 2.5 SE AWD as Andrew's car] the optional extras did not include SatNav/touchscreen or blue tooth, though it did include headlamp washers, and leather/wood steering wheel. My s type is an SE with over £11,100 worth of optional extras. It is well worth looking out for the list of extras fitted to the car you are getting. All the x types do drive well, and as Andrew says, the AWD petrol versions hold the road very well. Regards, Peter.

Hi Cbers, Short journeys do take it out of the battery especially if you have lights and heater on. I put my battery on charge once every couple of week, and, as Steve says, it takes about 45 minutes to give it a full charge. It used to be said that just to start the car took so much out of the battery that it took 7 miles to replace the power used. You can buy these battery charge packs quite cheaply, but a good solution is get one of these solar chargers that sit on the dashboard and charge the battery in your absence. Regards, Peter.

Hi Dave, You will be able to get the Rubber Boot mat from Poundland and cut to size required. Peter.

Hi Nathan, and welcome to the club. My son has just bought an X Type Sport 2.0 litre diesel with a manual gearbox and with 91k on the clock on an 06 plate. He has no problem at all with the gearbox and gets a very good mpg. This engine is the well tested and very economical Ford Duratorq engine. The only mark on the bodywork was a stone chip on the bonnet which will take me an hour to repair to a good standard. The car was immaculate in all other respects. Price - £3350. Apparently the 2.0 litre diesel does not require a DPF as it meets Euro4 emissions without one. Many people think a Jaguar is expensive to run, but there are many good garages who will do the same job as a main dealer at half the cost. You will be able to buy a good X Type SE saloon for under £5000. Regards, Peter.

Jaguar s type r expansion tank
Old Peter replied to Paul.doberman's topic in New Members Introductions
Hi Paul, My first really long trip in my S Type was roughly the same distance - a week in Dorset. Being half way to everywhere is the advantage of living in the West Midlands. I have used a local mobile mechanic for repairs and servicing since 2002 and he is a half the price of main dealers. A Diagnostic check at Colliers in Tamworth cast me £69. I bought an OBD2 code reader for £20 and saved a fortune! Have a nice trip. Peter. -
Hi John and welcome to the club. First, the park brake. This sometimes also happens to me, particularly when it is cold. You will need to have the Radio code on hand before you start. Disconnect the battery for a short time with the ignition switched off. Reconnect the battery and start the engine. The alarm will possible go off and you will also get the message APPLY FOOT AND PARK BRAKES. Apply the park brake a few times and allow the engine to idle a short time. You will need to reset the windows and possibly the SatNav if you have the touch screen fitted. Raistlin [Paul] has written a full set of directions which he will send you if required. If fold in windows are fitted , there are instructions in the handbook on page 95, but if you do not have a handbook, put the set mirror switch in the centre and the press the bottom of the button above which will fold them in. To fold them back just the button again. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.

Jaguar s type r expansion tank

Welcome to the club, Paul. The S Type is a very nice car and in my opinion, a future classic. Many people think that Jaguars are expensive to maintain --- you have just proved they are not. The aim of main dealers is not to make sales of cars - it is to make money! Regards, Peter. -
Welcome to the club, Kevin. You will find a lot of friendly and helpful people in the club, and quite a lot in your area of the country. Regards, Peter.

We also made a mark on the door as an indication of the height they needed to be before they did not need the booster seats than come after the posher seats. I also put a piece of that rubber stuff that stops the seats sliding around under the seats. They will grow up quicker than you think. Regards, Peter.

When I am asked about my car I just say "Just an old Jaguar, and they when they see it they say "I thought you said it was old" or 'You must have a good pension!' Peter.
-
My son said he was too young at 45 to have a Jaguar. I showed him the photograph of your sons' X Types. He now has an X Type estate with the 2.0 litre Diesel! Peter.
-
Coincidence, Gary. I think the trip computer is looking at what mpg you got on your last trip. Peter.

Vibration from what feels like the drive shaft?
Old Peter replied to DaftMule's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
Hi Adam, Looking at the cheapest option it is worth checking your tyres first. I had this problem on a Rover and checked the tyres by feeling round the tyre walls and found a bulge on one front tyre, probably from a pothole. Regards, Peter. -
Hi Dave, My grandchildren had car seats in my car when they were young, I forget what make they were but they didn't mark the leather seats in my Rover. They were the seat belt style of fastening. Regards, Peter.

Hi Phil, I have never seen a bigger cap on an S type. My centre caps need renewing when I get round to it! If you come across a bigger cap let me know and I will see if it suits my s type wheels. Peter

Welcome to the club, Dominic. Was the warning light red? Or was it the ABS warning? If it was Red, my handbook indicates that you will need a bit of expertise. If it was amber, you could look at the brake fluid level. If was ABS the brakes will operate OK but will not have the ABS assistance. Other members with more expert knowledge than me will assist. Regards, Peter.

Hi Brian, and welcome to the Club. Is your battery OK? That is usually the first port of call. I would also check out the fuses, and for the sound on the SatNav turn on the radio and then look at the volume settings on the touchscreen. Lets us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Henry. Good body shop experts are hard to find. Have you got a website that you can let members have? Regards, Peter.
