  1. Hi Karl, I would check for water ingress in the boot - commonly happens but is easy to rectify. Also check out the sills which have been known to rust. Other owners might share their experience too. Regards, Peter.
  2. Hi Liviu, The Jaguar experience is a fairly unique one. I hope you enjoy the club as well as you enjoy your Jaguar. Regards, Peter.
  3. I was a mere youngster when I first saw the first Jaguar I wanted - a Mark 1 being restored. I was 77 when I bought my first, a rather nice X Type which was stolen the day after my 79th birthday. SWMBO said that I should turn a disaster into an opportunity, and bought me a beautiful S Type [Morgana the Witch]. Great Cars and the Owners Club Members are great people. Pictures of SWMBO and Morgana. Peter.
  4. Hi Karl, and welcome to the club. The S Type is a great car -- the best I have driven in 60 years behind the wheel. Grace, Pace and Space, according to Sir William Lyons. I rather think you will enjoy it. Regards, Peter.
  5. Hi Mick, First let me get rid of the idea that the X Type Jaguar is a Mondeo in disguise. This appears to come from the fact that the very first [and a very few were sold] were actually rebadged Mondoe Ghia's. I think you could count on a couple of hands and maybe a foot the number that went onto the road. Sure, the floor pan of the X Type is Mondeo based, and the engines used are Ford engines, but the rest go the car is Jaguar. It is not uncommon in the Automotive world for cars to share parts. Even Rolls Royce from 1946 till taken over by the Germans had a Buick 5.0 litre engine. The engines in the X type are tried and tested [I had a 2.5 Litre AWD petrol with a manual gearbox on an 05 plate] and the 3.0 litre petrol, although a bit thirsty, was the one that was bought in great numbers in America and Canada. They did like the All Wheel Drive! The manual gearbox is on most X types, and is a pretty good one, and in fact seems to be standard on X type Sport models.[My son has one] I have not done it, but apparently the sill covers are easy to remove, Don't let people put you off. The Jaguar is the best car I have ever driven and I have been driving for 60 years. Regards, Peter.
  6. Looks good, Phil.
  7. Welcome to the Club, Sue. Personally, I would be inclined to keep it. You know the car, and its record, and it is only 10 years old. And also I believe that the XK8 is a future classic. I am going to keep my S Type [9 years old in March] for quite a few more years. Regards, Peter.
  8. Hi Gordy, You have seen some very useful answers. My car already had the heated front screen fitted prior to it getting damaged quite badly, and so it had all the wiring and switch already there. But having watched the windscreen fitter from Autoglass do the job I would not attempt to do such a job myself. Apart from the weight of the screen, it did look like a very complicated exercise. I would not recommend, though, following a lorry through roadworks! Peter.
  9. Hi Gordon, My windscreen had a severe crack and gad to be replaced. The original one was a heated one and it was replaced by a similar one. The conclusion is that it can be done.. It will probably be expensive though, unless you have the misfortune of a large stone from a lorry hitting you. Regards Peter.
  10. Welcome to the club, Shannon. The XF Owners in the club will share their knowledge. Does the touchscreen work in other respects? The XF is different from the S Type in respect of the touchscreen, and on the s type, and other models of a similar age, lets you put in the setting and then operated from the controls of the dashboard. Regards, Peter.
  11. Welcome to the Club, Garry. We have a friendly group of members here who have one thing in common -- Jaguar cars. I hope you will enjoy the club, as well as you enjoy these great cars, Regards, Peter.
  12. Welcome to the Club, Gary. Having a quick look around the s type handbook there is a bit about the inertia switch tripping. The switch would have to be reset. The problem must be electrical, and there are quite a few with electrical expertise will be able to assist. Regards, Peter.
  13. Hi Beaves, and welcome to the club. The x type is a great car and much underrated, and the 2.0 litre Diesel engine [Ford Duratorq] is very frugal and reliable. The club is a friendly and helpful club and to get the most from the members it is helpful to fill up the details on your profile. Regards, Peter.
  14. Welcome to the club, Phil. I have heard of this and I am sure that there was a topic raised some years ago. It could be worth checking if your car had a recall notice. Regards, Peter.
  15. Hi Paul, Our best wishes, and hopes that all will be fine -- Our best regards, Peter. [Just dashing off to London after being out "up North" yesterday.]
  16. Hi Joe, I saw the Metro engine being built by a computer - interesting. The Jaguar engine plant in Wolverhampton would be a good visit, but I don't think they have visits yet. I enjoyed the classic car when I went a few years ago. Peter.
  17. Hi Joe, I am unsure about Castle Bromwich. I have been round quite a few car factories --- Longbridge, when it was "The Austin" and Longbridge at the start of automation --- Toyota factory near Derby - Boring ---- Nissan, Sunderland -- taking to the workforce was interesting. The old fashioned factories wee the most interesting to me. I didn't think that the robots operating were that interesting. Regards, Peter.
  18. Welcome to the club, Barrie. Company cars can be a pain. My employer [when I was still working] gave the option to have a Toyota Prius about 4 years after I retired. I think you will enjoy the Jaguar experience. Regards, Peter.
  19. Welcome to the club, Murray. The x type is a most underrated car and the 2.0 litre Diesel engine [Ford Duratorq] is a great workhorse. [My younger son has one - the estate version]. I hope you enjoy both the club and your Jaguar. Regards, Peter.
  20. Welcome to the club, John. I hope that you will enjoy the club as much as you enjoy your Jaguars! You will find a lot of like mended and friendly people here, who will value your experience. Regards, Peter.
  21. It does look good, Joe.
  22. With all waxes and polishes you also need a large pot of grease --- elbow grease! Peter.
  23. Hi Joe, I had a paint protection process done on my S Type, so I haven't needed polish since June 2013. I used to use AutoGlym products and use their shampoo. I have heard good things spoken about Megulars and also Showroom Bright. I also us the three bucket system -- although the heavens are doing the rinse for me these last few weeks. Peter.
  24. Welcome to the Club, Niall. You have one very quick car -- in my opinion the S Type is a future classic. Enjoy! Regards, Peter.
  25. Welcome to the Club, Reg. I have a stick on leaper on my S Type. Very sturdy, and will come of if necessary. And it saves drilling. Regards, Peter.
