  1. Did it work, Paul?
  2. Never give up, Paul. Try it tomorrow early and catch it when it is still sleepy. That is how to deal with computers. Peter.
  3. Hi Steve, and welcome to the club. The s type is a rather good car, and the 2.7 diesel is quicker than many people think. When I got mine two and half years ago SWMBO said it was outside our budget till she sat in the drivers seat. We bought it less than 5 minutes later! Treat the engine well -use good fuel, and a good blast on the motorway [which you will enjoy] keeps the EGR valves clean and the engine happy. Regards, Peter.
  4. And an excellent document it is, Paul and well worth keeping with your owner's manual. Peter.
  5. Good idea, Paul.
  6. Hi Dave, and welcome to the club. You won't have a problem asking for help here, as there are many knowledgeable members ready to assist. A couple of photographs of your XJS in the sun would be nice. Regards, Peter.
  7. Welcome to the Club, Steve. I hope you enjoy the Jaguar experience as well as the club. The club is about sharing experiences good and bad, as well as enjoying our cars. Regards, Peter
  8. Welcome to the club, Richard. You have a great car in the S Type which I think is a future classic, and you are doing everything to ensure that. I have Dove Grey and Maple interior too --- and it looks great. Tips -- I think you know more than me! I would set off at the end of March with a nice shiny car and show the French, and Italians that we make better cars than they do! Regards, Peter.
  9. Hi Nicholas, I towed a caravan for over 20 years with various cars until my wife said I was too old. There is a website that will assist. uktow.com You car's kerb weight is 1678 kg and using the 85% rule, will to a caravan weighing 1426.3 kg. Remembering that your caravan will carry a load - bedding, pots and pans, tins of food etc, and caravan weighing about 1350 kg will be idea. The 3.0 litre petrol will drag along a weight of 1850 kg, so pulling power will be OK. I hope this assists, but feel free to ask any questions you need to. Regards, Peter. P.S. The nose weight is OK BUT do make sure that is not exceeded and spend about £15 on a nose weight gauge to check before you set off.
  10. Hi Paul, That s not a bad price. If ever mine need doing and my mechanic cannot do it, I will be in touch. I come to Burton-on-Trent frequently. Regards, Peter.
  11. That would be my concern, too, Steve. Giving the wrong advice can do very funny things with electrics in modern cars. Some years ago my sons mini wouldn't start although the battery was quite good. Simple operation in those days, a good clout with a lump hammer was threatening enough. Peter.
  12. Welcome to the club, David. You will be able to tell us about the Jaguar experience! Some pictures of your car when you have a moment would be great. Regards, Peter.
  13. Hi Steve, You car is the 2.5 litre [is it?] - and so the engine will be the same as on the X Type 2.5 litre. I would guess that if the key fobs look the same then the process would be. As an aside, SWMBO said on the way back from Lichfield this morning, "Isn't the car running beautifully?" Regards Peter.
  14. Engine oil is a very competitive market. My mechanic, who has serviced my cars for about 14 years can buy top grade oil, Castrol Magnatec, for instance at a third of the price that Halfords sell for. I think that what you have to look for is Gearbox Fluid. Peter.
  15. Hi Steve, I am not an electrical expert but I do know that when I have Handbrake Fault coming up on the message centre I do have to disconnect the battery for a very short time to allow the ECU to reset. This is usually done when it is raining and blowing a gale so I am very quick at doing it while SWMBO is telling me that we have to get rid of "This pile of Junk", which, when the car is running beautifully translates into "the best car we have ever had". I think you might need an auto locksmith to reprogram, which is the exist option. Regards, Peter.
  16. Hi Jordan, There is one thing about being old is that you were once young and probably drove old bangers in the days without the MOT and had a top speed of around 60mph. The young then had problems with cars that usually kept them fixing them on Saturdays so that they could get out on Sundays. Regards, Peter.
  17. Welcome to the club, Jordan. You will enjoy the Jaguar experience and hope you keep us posted of your progression with your car. Regards, Peter.
  18. Hi Gordon, We were discussing the price of Transmission Fluid for the Automatic gearbox, and their prices are rather good. Peter.
  19. Hi Charlie, I wonder if 5/30 semi synthetic was available 18b years ago? I use 5/30 as recommended by Jaguar on my 2007 plate s type. Peter.
  20. Hi Paul, I have just checked out the website and all car fluids are there at what looks like very good discounted prices. It is a tricky site to get around but I looked at fluids rather than oil and eventually found it. I didn't use the selector, as I sometimes find myself trying to argue with it! Regards, Peter.
  21. Hi Keith, I would also give your car a Terraclean service. It cleans out the fuel system and is well worth the £114 I paid for it two years ago. Better performance and better mpg, I was also told that if you have a performance engine us the best fuel. Having said that, many members have had no problems with standard fuel from Sainsbury's etc. I use Shell V power and it is noticeable when I fill up with standard fuel, Regards, Peter.
  22. Hi Keith, and welcome to the Club. Opie Oils will tell you exactly what you need. They are also trade members of the club. They are a very good oil supplier, amongst other things, and if you check their website all you will need to do is to put in your Reg Number. Regards, Peter.
  23. Correct, Stan. I checked out blanking the EGR valves last year, and found out that they could only be partially blanked. Rather than doing that I preferred to regularly clean them using either a good blast on the A38 or Wynns EGR Cleaner. I think it could be the electrical sensor that activates the valves could be at fault in Colin's case. Peter.
  24. That is one of the issues that come with air fresheners, too, Paul. I also use a spray to clean & polish the interior trim, which is great for a couple of days, and then fades. When I was looking to buy a Jaguar after we decided to let our Rover go [just getting a bit tatty through wear] we found an S type Jaguar in Cannock. Lowish mileage, bodywork in very good condition with a pretty good list of extra bits fitted, and when I opened the door the smell of cigarette smoke hit me. I closed the door and walked away. Regards, Peter.
  25. Hi Brandon, and welcome to the club. Sunday is a quiet day on the Forum! I think you are right concerning the immobiliser -- it is certainly a key fob fault. It might be worth disconnecting the battery for a minute or so. It might need the key fob getting reprogrammed. Regards, Peter.
