  1. Hi Colin, Expensive but the good news is --- much cheaper than a new kitchen! Regards, Peter.
  2. Welcome to the club, John. I am surprised that the XK does not have an aerial screen mounted, although I have never examined the XK closely. There are quite a few XK owners who might have done that job. Regards, Peter.
  3. Welcome to the club, Paul. Having a s type 2.7 diesel I find that when using the S button it does give an extra boost when accelerating. However, when cruising it makes little difference other than keeping the engine revs a little higher. Have you noticed any difference in the engine revs when you press the button? An increase in revs tells you that it is working. Regards, Peter.
  4. Welcome to the club, Sam. My son has a similar car - Zircon Blue on an 06 plate. He had the same noise combining from the steering rack which was cured by topping up the Fluid. It could be that the fluid is expanding as it gets warmer. It is worth trying as the cheapest option. Clunking from the rear end ? - you are probably on the right track, but x type owners will help. Regards, Peter.
  5. Welcome to the Club, Corne. You have a very nice car -- what they call "Old English White" is a great colour for the XJ. I hope you enjoy both your Jaguar and the Club. Regards, Peter.
  6. Welcome to the club, Keith. The s type is a great car to drive and a real head turner. The 3.0 litre engine has timing chains and apparently will last for ever. The 2.7 litre diesel has a timing belt which should be changed at either 10 years of 105k miles. Regards, Peter.
  7. Hi Paul,

I had not seen that post, but you are quite right.  Recommending illegal actions is not in the best interests of club members.

We could either warn the user, or delete the post and give a reason for doing so.

Do you want to do it or should I?

    Regards,

    Peter.

      Hi Peter,

I think the post should vanish and the user be politely told that at least one Circuit Judge, a Magistrate and several Police officers are members of this club.

I'll do it. It's no use me leaving you to do all the housekeeping :)

      Rgds

That will be nicely put, Paul.

      Thanks.

All done. I've explained ti Simon that his post was deleted as it quoted the offending post as well.

Just waiting for the fall-out now ;)

Nah - I can be very diplomatic when I have to be.

      Rgds

  8. Hi David, I thing the starting handle disappeared when front wheel drive and transverse engines appeared. There is a story about an inoffensive old guy in a pub drinking his half of Guiness, when in came a chap in a Judo suit and gave him a Karate chop. He then put a £20 note behind the bar and said "when he wakes up tell him 7th Dan Judo Medallist". The following evening the chap in the Judo suit was drinking his pint of lager, when in came the old guy who crept up behind him and clunked him on the back of the head. He then put the same £20 note behind the bar and said "when he wakes up tell him Austin A40, 1962, starting handle." Regards, Peter.
  9. Hi Tony, and Welcome to the club. That is a great project and very interesting. I would certainly like to see more photographs. Regards, Peter.
  10. Hi Gordon, I think the set up on the XK is for a harder "sports" style ride. I have heard that smaller wheels on the XK can give a more comfortable ride. There are, I believe, different suspension settings on the s type in respect of the SE and the R versions, and possibly the Sport version. I have the SE which gives a very comfortable ride. Regards, Peter.
  11. Have a look at the Halfords website. Click on TYRES, put in your Reg Number and you will get a list of tyres with prices and EU status. There will also be some good offers, although you need not buy them from Halfords. The ones on my Car are Goodyear Eagle which got the best rating -- 18" 245/40/97R -- £128 a corner. On the ride, check you tyre pressure to see if the pressures are correct. Peter.
  12. Hi Haysie, and welcome to the club. My S Type Sat Nav maps have a DVD system in the boot, just above the CD players. I was able to obtain a replacement disc. The last disc for the s type system is for 2012. I think the XF system is one that is on a more advanced system, which has to be downloaded. I think that some XF members have updated it. I will have a look around. Regards, Peter.
  13. I had the same problem with a Triumph Herald in 1967, Frank, but it was a bit easier to fix! Faulty coils do cause a loss of power, but misfires are usually down to a fuel problem. Peter.
  14. I have done quite a few over the years. Several car radios, one 8 track player, carpets, rear window demister, wing mirrors, rear seating in a small van, seat belts, but the most enjoyable was a small oven heated by the exhaust manifold, which would cook a small chicken in just over an hour and a half. _ I nearly forgot a bracket in the boot for the starting handle! Heaters were then standard fitting. Peter.
  15. Welome to the Club, Sue I was thinking of the coil but as it has had some attention I would not think it would be my first port of call. It might be worth checking if it could be the fuel system - injectors? There could well be other reasons and members with more expertise than me will help. Regards, Peter
  16. Welcome to the Club, Dave. The club is about sharing experiences -- hopefully good ones. I think you will enjoy your Jaguar. Regards, Peter
  17. Hi Paul, I have a power washer but only use it on the conservatory roof and the drive. I was warned never to use it on a Jaguar, as the like the 3 bucket system. Peter.
  18. Hi Paul, It happened again today --- cold weather, I think. A copy of the procedure would be appreciated and would sit well in my maintenance file. Regards, Peter.
  19. I know the feeling. I had to promise SWMBO that I would give up my season ticket in the best stand which effectively stopped my going up to Lancashire every other weekend to watch Rugby League!
  20. Just another thought, John. I have just has a visit from my son who has a 2.0 D X type. He says the when he accelerates hard he get some dark grey/black smoke from his exhaust. which sounds like some unburnt oil being burnt off. His car still goes pretty well As your cars has been stopped overnight it is possible that the same thing has happened. You will need either an additive, or better still give your car a Terracean service. For about £120 it will give your fuel system a thorough clean. Try googling Terrclean and you will find a good description and also a local technician who can do it. Let us know how it goes. Peter.
  21. Welcome to the club, John. John [Jingles] - and a welcome to you also. It does sound like burning off soot. Wynns have a product called "Diesel EGR Cleaner which come in a spray canister. You have to get your engine running at normal temperature, take out your air filter, run the engine at about 1200 rpm -- you might need someone else to do that -- and spray the whole canister into the air intake. I use in on my s type and it works. A good blast on the motorway always works if it is the EGR valve. I use Shell V power for my 2.7 diesel S Type and find that I get better performance as well as better mpg. Regards, Peter.
  22. HI Barry, It is not wear and tear only that cause cam belt failure, it can also be the age of the material. The S Type cam belts should be changed at 105K miles or 10 years. It is worth considering what the bill for a new engine could be. Regards, Peter.
  23. Hi Barry, The engineers will tell you that if a belt fails there could be a lot of damage to the engine. The accountants will tell you to chance it for a few thousand miles more. Accountants are very good runners and hard to catch. My car is the same year as yours and I will be having the belts changed in March 2017 even though I will probably heavenly done about 77k miles by then. Peter.
  24. Welcome to the Club, Mark. The X type is an underrated car. It is well made, well equipped, and very comfortable. It was once described as "nippy" by a motoring journalist - not a word I would have used, but the 2.5 and 3.0 AWD versions do show a great turn of speed. You will enjoy your car, and I hope you will enjoy the Club, too. Regards, Peter.
  25. Welcome to the club, Mark. I used to have a Rover 825 Sterling and found it was a great car. I kept it for a long time, and reluctantly it had to go. SWMBO said it was getting tatty. And so first the X Type and then the S type.. Both are great cars, and the S Type is a real head turner. Regards, Peter.
