  1. Welcome to the Club, Eddie. It looks to me that there has to be a fault with the intercooler that was fitted. Could it be an inferior part? Stern words with the service manager! Let us know how it goes! Regards, Peter.
  2. Hi Stevie, and welcome to the club. Looks like a fuel problem. What colour is the smoke? Peter.
  3. Hi David, I always thought that the very early models had the badge on the bonnet and yours is incorporated in the grill. That was all I could spot from the outside. Peter. [Post interrupted by Dinner]
  4. Hi David, You car is a 52 plate and as it was registered in November 2002 it would be classed as a 2003 model. The ZF 6 speed gearbox was fitted on the 2003 model. My s type is a 07 plated car and is classed as the 2008 model. My conclusion is that your car was not a demo car but as it was built towards the end of the year was fitted with a ZF auto 6 speed. Regards, Peter. PS. Your car has also got some of the 2003 features from looking at your profile photo.
  5. Welcome to the Club, Joe. Jaguars are great cars, whatever model you have, and the XE is going to be a best seller. We have a few members from Ireland and I had the pleasure of meeting a member from Loughrea last summer when I delivered a part to him [saving a lot of shipping costs] when I was taking a holiday in Galway. I think you will enjoy your car, and I hope you will enjoy the club, Regards, Peter.
  6. It is, Steve. I think it also affects the XJ - new shape. Regards, Peter.
  7. Nice one, Steve, Many members will be rather relieved. There have been stories about garages having to take the seats out, and then charging a couple of hundred pounds for doing it. Peter.
  8. Hi Shaun, Warranties are funny things, and I would guess that on a private sale you will be buying the car "as seen". I think that you can buy a fuel system cleaning additive which might cure the rather tardy glow plug warm up. My son has an X type with the 2.0 litre Diesel engine and it does sound a bit like a tractor when idling, but this engine is a well tried and tested [Ford Duratorq] add I have seen cars with this engine pass 200k miles. Should you buy the car there is a system called Terraclean which costs about £120 which cleans the fuel system. Maybe the seller would get it done for you? Regards, Peter.
  9. Hi Chaz and welcome to the club. I have heard about this problem and that some people have managed to access the boot [uK terminology] by getting to the battery by getting in by the rear seats. I have also heard that there is a small battery charger that can charge the battery by plugging it into the power source/cigar lighter. My s type has a key entry , luckily! Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
  10. Hi Bairiki, There is a page in the S Type handbook [153] that refers to the Diesel Particulate Filter, and how it will regenerate. Basically, if you give your car a good run every few weeks the filter will regenerate and burn off the soot particulates inside it. When the engine reaches its full operating temperature about twenty minutes at a speed over 30 mph should do the job. I ensure that I do that, and luckily in two and a half years I have never had the warning light on for the DPF. I have heard that Post Office drivers have an afternoon every month when they have to ensure that the DPF is regenerated bu either taking the van out for an hour or running the engine for a similar time at revs over 1200 rpm. Regards, Peter.
  11. Hi Amal, The S type [and indeed the x type] has several versions, all slightly different usually in interior and exterior trim, There is the S, the SE, and the Sport. I think the Sport version also has slightly different suspension, but I am insure. It would also surprise you at the number of optional extras there are on Jaguars, which include things like headlamp washers, touch screen, CD changer, spare wheel rather than and emergency wheel, wheel sizes, etc My s type SE specification has a long list and you can easily find out what extras were put on in the factory by taking you VIN number to a dealer and asking him to get it for you. Peter.
  12. Welcome to the Club, Chris. You will get a lot of assistance with technical issues, as there are some members with load of skills -- as witness Joe's post. Regards, Peter.
  13. Welcome to the club, John. I also had an x type 2.5 litre V6 AWD and it was very nice indeed. When it was "borrowed" on a non returnable basics by a pair of scroats my wife said the short turn a disaster into an opportunity and buy the car I really wanted, which was an S Type. I settled for the 2.7 diesel SE with a lot of optional extras fitted, and have had two and a half years of trouble free luxury motoring. The X Type 2.5AWD was described by one reviewer as "nippy" and while it is very agile with the four wheel drive, I would never say it was nippy. If you want the same experience but with more power, then the X Type 3.0 litre petrol AWD is the car to choose. But if you want "Grace, pace, and space" then you have to go for the S Type, which is quicker than many people think, even in the diesel engined model. which will reach 62 mph in 8 seconds, and with twin turbochargers has fantastic acceleration from 20 mph to 70, and more if SWMBO will let you. Your choice. Other experiences will assist. Regards, Peter.
  14. Hi Chris, Try passenger compartment fusebox - Fuse F4. This fusebox is located in the driver's side footwell to the right. Get a torch before starting! Peter.
  15. Welcome to the club, Paul. When I bought my first Jaguar the salesman told me that I would never drive another marque. It was true, and I cannot think of another brand I would prefer. I think you will enjoy you Jaguar and I hope you enjoy the Club. Regards, Peter.
  16. Welcome to the club, Nigel. I am a bit surprised that your local garage had not got a diagnostic scanner. There is a good independent Jaguar specialist in Doncaster, if you live near enough who will be cheaper than a main dealer. Regards, Peter.
  17. Welcome to the Club, Colin. Andy has pointed you in the right direction. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
  18. Welcome to the Club, Keith. You will find a lot of great information on the various forums -- there are members with a great deal of expertise. Enjoy your X Type --- built in Lancashire too! Regards, Peter.
  19. Happy New Year, Chris and Jo & welcome to the club. You will enjoy the Jaguar experience, and the forthcoming addition to your family will have the taste of Luxury from day 1. Best Wishes for the New Year, Peter.
  20. And a Happy New Year to all from us. Sadly I did not see it in ---- after a week with family visits every day we were well asleep by midnight. Resolution for the year : Do things rather than not do things. Peter.
  21. Welcome to the club, John. There is nothing wrong with any of the models you have listed, I have a S type 2,7 SE with lots of optional extras fitted. The twin turbo diesel is much quicker and quieter than most people think, Those who drive the petrol versions of the s type will give you some feed back on their experience. Regards, Peter.
  22. Hi Simore, and welcome to the club. S Types are very finicky concerning batteries, and having had to reset the radio code indicated that the battery could be not properly connected. Try checking that out and look at the terminals of the battery. Peter.
  23. Hi Tom, I had the same problem once with my s type. I pushed it in and tried turning it towards closed and then towards open. It opened. Probably just luck rather than inspiration! Peter.
  24. Hi Dave, a stick on Leaper could solve the problem. Getting it off is possible and cleaning off the glue pad just needs white spirit and a large amount of elbow grease. Regards, Peter.
  25. Welcome to the Club, Stephen. I have never had a heater problem, other than a heated rear window not heating -- solved by charging the battery. Hopefully an XJ owner or a member with a 3.0 litre s type might have the answer. Regards, Peter.
