  1. Hi Liam, and welcome to the club. You will enjoy the S Type and I hope you enjoy the club. Swapping experiences teaches you a lot about these great cars. Regards, Peter.
  2. Hi David, Which Sutton Coldfield dealer did you get your car from? I live in Sutton Coldfield! Regards, Peter.
  3. Hi Aaron, I am no expert on modern cars, but I did it on an Austin Allegro [not mine, I hasten to say] many years ago by disconnecting the fuel supply to the carburettor [sU] and turning the engine over letting the fuel run into a container. Regards, Peter.
  4. Hi Chris, I have done just over 500 miles using Shell V Power -- with a 2.7 Diesel though! Peter.
  5. I think it could be and air lock, Aaron. STP is the same stuff, I am sure. Regards, Peter,
  6. Welcome to the Club, David. I don't need to tell you about the S Type, but I do hope you enjoy the club. Regards Peter SE 2007 2.7D
  7. Sounds rather like the fuse, Andrew. Have a look in the x type handbook for the location. You can download the x type handbook if you have not got one, but a member with one will probably assist. Regards, Peter.
  8. Welcome to the club, Ian. I have never considered remapping my S Type 2.7D as I find that SWMBO thinks I drive too quickly anyway. That slight delay in acceleration does seem a bit common when the engine is cold -- the ZF auto gearbox does respond when the engine is warm, though. I can't tell you where the diagnostic socket is on the XF, but the requirements are that it must be in reach of the driver. On the S Type its is located on the left hand side of the driver footwell and that is probably where it is on the XF. Regards, Peter.
  9. He is probably right, Kevin. The OBD2 scanner is a very useful tool, and you can get cheap ones from eBay that do the basic job. Peter
  10. Work to do today, Jon. Prepare about 5 lbs of salmon to be hot smoked, make sure there are no bones in it then vacuum pack it. Then give the s type a good wash, shampoo and rinse. Regards, Peter.
  11. Hi Ian, Joe is quite correct. What I look for in a diesel is its quietness when cruising, and just a gentle rumble when at low revs. I have had three diesels, the first one being a Rover 418 with the Peugeot engine, which always sounded like a Massey Ferguson on startup, but went as quiet as a mouse when the turbo cut in when the revs increased. Regards, Peter.
  12. Hi Kevin, and welcome to the club. I cannot explain why the bearing is causing a problem - there could become members along who could give a hint or two. The amber waring light does need investigating, and I would recommend plugging in a OBD2 scanner to find out what the problem is and then take it from there. You have not said if your car is a petrol or diesel, which would help. Regards, Peter.
  13. Hi Aaron, and welcome to the club. I am not an engineer, but I am wondering if the fuel system needs cleaning. I am a fan of preventative maintenance, and periodically - about every 3,000 miles - put in some Wynns diesel engine cleaner -- you can get it from Halfords for about £7. I have just put some into my son's 2.0 litre Diesel X Type Sport Estate, with 92k on the clock. These engines - Ford Duratorq - do last a long time, often well over 200k. Good luck, Peter.
  14. Good luck, Jon, and hope it gets sorted before Christmas' Peter.
  15. Hi Tim, 50% seems to be the usual level of compensation when Jaguar are aware that they had fitted a component [the oil pump] which failed without letting you know. However, I would write a very nice and polite letter to Jaguar, firstly thanking them for their offer, but also saying that you have taken great care of a great car [no pun intended], having the cam belt changed before it was due [105k] , and always using engine oil as recommended etc etc, and wondering if they could up the offer somewhat. Sometimes it works. I had an engine blow on me on the 12th June 1964, when my Triumph T100 suffered an oil pipe fracture. I had another 'bike at the time so I found someone who wanted the frame, wheels etc and more or less gave it him. Good luck Peter.
  16. Great Photo, Andy!
  17. Welcome to the club, Tim. The 2.7 litre engine was designed as a joint venture between Ford and Peugeot, and is well thought of. Having said that when I bought my S type wth the same engine the service book showed that the engine had been changed by under warranty by Jaguar at 21,821 miles. When I asked why, I was told that it was probably the oil pump. While the engine is reckoned to be a very good one, I wonder more about the quality of the oil pump. No matter how good an engine is, it can't do its job without oil. Regards, Peter.
  18. Hi All, That person has now been banned. Comments made in a private message concerning Pensioners, drivers of older cars, and Northerners led me to believe that this person is not really either an honest person nor a person who was going to be a real club member. Regards, Peter.
  19. Hi Steve, This person is an internet troll and known to other moderators. He/she has asked for his/her profile to be removed, which I have set in motion. This club is a friendly club for Jaguar Owners to exchange information and to assist, rather than have arguments. The moderators are not heavy handed and just try to keep the club as it is intended to be. With thanks, Peter. ["so called staff member"]
  20. Hi Richard, I will contact the Site admin and do as you request. Sorry you are leaving but understand why. Have a Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Regards, Peter.
  21. No-one has been conned, as you put it. The Jaguar Owners Club is a club for Jaguar Owners and that is made clear. I suspect that you are someone who has been a former member and has returned pretending to be Royalty -- insofar as you have referred to me as a commoner, and threaten to have "your council' to close down this site. I think that you are an internet troll. Peter.
  22. Hi Ian, I have just had a look at the fitting and the unit seems just t0 have three bolts holding it on. One either side at the top, and the other which holds on the horns too. However, there are some members who have done this and hopefully they will spot this post and tell you how to do it. Regards, Peter.
  23. Good news, Nick. Now you can enjoy your s type without niggles. Regards, Peter.
  24. I think there was something about silicon sprays on the site recently, but I can't think where. I sometimes uses WD40 when I suspect a bit of damp is around. Peter.
